A poem parfts 1-3
A Poem By Mary Jones
Angela sat in the cool basement listening to her favorite band the Monkees she had just had an argument with her dad. He said that she had to have a baby sitter for a week, and she was mad. So she went down stairs to listen to music. “Angela we’re leaving help the babysitters if they need it and if it is alright with them Mary can sleep over for a week.” And with that her Dad and Louise left. As soon as she heard the car pull out she jumped up, shut her music off, and got the phone. She called Mary up and told her. “Do you know who the babysitters are?” Mary asked. “I have no clue they should be coming over anytime.” Angela said. “Where will your brother be?” Mary asked in a quiet voice. “He will be gone to Chris’s for the week.” Angela said flatly. “Well okay when should I come over then?” Mary asked throwing a pile of cloths into her backpack after she threw its original contents on the floor. “You can come over anytime. Why don’t I walk over and get you.” Angela said she was getting excited. “Yea sure you can come over besides I want to show you what I did to my computer. It is cool!” Mary said enthusiastically. “Oh boy what did you do this time?” Angela feared what strange crime against humanity was on there this time. “Oh just more of the same thing…” Mary started to say but Angela cut her off. “Davy Jones isn’t it?” Angela could see right through Mary’s ways about things. “Yes you know me to well.” Mary said laughing. “I don’t know if I want to look.” Angela said groaning. “Micky is on there.” Mary said in a singsong voice. “Well that does change things then.” Angela said getting ideas. “Angela? Angela? Earth to Angela? Angela!” Mary tried to get her attention. “Huh?” Angela rejoined the real world. “We should get off the phone so I can pack okay.” Mary said. “Yep well bye.” Angela said quickly and hung up the phone she heard the babysitters walk in. “Hello?” Angela heard a formillur voice call. “I am down here.” Angela called up the stairs. The babysitters walked down the stairs. Angela looked up and gasped. The phone rang at Mary’s house. Mary ran to the phone. “Hello?” “Mary I can’t walk over you just come over here bye.” Angela spoke quickly and hung up the phone. Mary walked into Angela’s house and set her stuff down. “Angela?” Mary yelled. “Down stairs Mary!” Angela yelled over her music which was still blasting. Mary grabbed her CD’s and ran down the stairs. “Hey Angela are your Babysitters here yet? I bet they are some dingy old ladies knowing your dad.” Mary yelled as she came down the last few steps but stopped when she went around the corner. Mary pulled out her pictures of the Monkees she never left home without them. She looked at the babysitters then the picture. She did not mean to but she screamed. “Oh my god! I feel like such a idiot.” Mary slammed her CD case against her head. Mary smiled at Davy. “Um hi my name is Mary I’m really not crazy. Sorry it is just that her dad…” Mary tried to explain herself. “It is okay we understand no harm done.” Davy assured Mary that it was okay. Mike and Peter just grinned at each other. Angela ran up to Mary. “Mary this is so cool!” Angela was excited. Davy was just leaning up against the wall with stars in his eyes as he watched the two girls from across the room. “Oh, Angela I got a new picture off the net.” Mary pulled out a picture of the Monkees. “Yep that is a good picture.” Angela nodded. “And has got Micky to bet you like that. I like Davy but you know that.” Mary said forgetting that they where right there. Angela hit Mary and blushed when she looked at Micky. “Ouch! Oh oops!” Mary’s face turned red. “Mary I can’t believe you said that.” Angela yelled at her. “Well I don’t mind it at all.” Davy said with his head in the clouds. Micky just grinned. Mary and Angela looked at each other and grinned. “How old are you girls?” Micky asked with his fingers crossed. “I am 17.” Angela said. “I am 16.” Mary added. Mike and Peter looked at each other. “Well why are we here then.” Peter asked. Davy slapped him. “Shut up Peter we are getting paid and Mary is cute.” Davy said under his breath. Micky gave peter a dirty look. “Dad does not think we should be left alone in case there is an accident because we are incompetent.” Angela said. “Will your parents mind if Peter and I have our girlfriends come over will they?” Mike asked as Peter looked at the girls with a begging look on his face. “Oh we wont tell.” Mary and Angela said at the same time and started to giggle. “Angela where are we all going to stay tonight?” Mary asked looking at Davy. “Well we will stay in my room, Micky and Davy will stay in Patrick’s room Mike and his girlfriend can take dad’s room, and Peter and his girlfriend can stay on the floor in the living room.” Angela said looking at the guys for their agreement. Mary carried her stuff up to the room and changed into her best night gown she did not even bother to put on her bathrobe. “Goodnight Davy.” Mary knocked on the door of Patrick’s room. “Goodnight Mary.” Davy replied and fell back on the bed to fantasize about Mary who went to her room and did the same. Angela and Micky stayed up to help Peter get the mattress set up on the living room floor. He didn’t know how to put on the sheets by himself. After that Angela went up to bed. She changed in the bathroom and brushed her teeth then went to bed. Micky changed after Angela and went to sleep soon after it had been a long day. At 12:30 Angela woke up to see Micky next to her looking confused. “Micky how did you end up in here?” Angela asked not really caring. “I don’t know I just woke up and I was in here.” Micky said without moving. “Where is Mary?” Angela asked looking around. “I don’t know.” Micky said standing up. “You don’t think?” Angela stood up and fallowed Micky into the hall. Micky put his ear up to the door to Patrick’s room. The door was locked and Micky heard some snoring but he thought Davy was faking it. “Well looks like I will have to stay in your room with you if you don’t mind.” Micky looked at Angela. “Oh no I don’t mind.” Angela said but never mind what she was thinking. The next morning Mary and Davy slept in (or so they told us). Mike did not even come out of his room till the day after that so who knows. Peter and Valleri (his girlfriend) had to behave because some body could have walked in on them (They where later found locked in the closet). Angela and Micky are not going to be mentioned I am trying to keep things PG13 but if you are over 18 Davy and Mary managed to get some pretty good pictures without them knowing. But it did make them very sick at first look they have not taken them out since. They might give them away they want to get rid of the pictures. Back to the story now. Mike and Peter went out with their girlfriends to a movie and would not be home for hours. Micky, Angela, Davy, and the ever so crammed full of hormones Mary where left at home with nothing to do. “Hey why don’t we rent a video?” Davy asked trying to think of stuff to do that they had not already done. “Yea that is a great idea.” Micky said standing up and digging the keys out of his pocket. “Why don’t Micky and I go and you two can stay here?” Angela said standing up to go with him. “Okay that would be fine.” Mary said looking at Davy for his approval. “Any requests?” Micky asked walking out of the room. “No.” Mary and Davy said at the same time while waving for them to go away. Davy and Mary watched at the window waiting for the car to pull out. When it did they both started laughing. “They are gone for a while perfect.” Mary said looking at Davy who was now sitting on the couch. “That worked out perfectly. Mary my love we are geniuses!” Davy said grinning at her as she sat down next to him. “So what do you want to do?” Mary asked in a sarcastic way. Davy just grinned and pulled her closer to him. “I don’t know what do you think of this?” Davy said and then pulled Mary’s face towards his and kissed her. Mary pulled away to answer him. “Oh this is just fine.” Then Mary went back to making out with Davy but half listening for the car to pull in. Angela and Micky pulled into the movie place. “What should we get?” Micky asked shutting the car door. “I don’t know. Maybe something funny or romantic or both.” Angela said looking at Micky without a clue. “Well we should just look around for something or…” Micky stopped what he was saying. “Or what?” Angela asked. “We can stop at my place and get the full Monkee show collection. But why would you want to watch me on TV for hours.” Micky said shrugging “Oh no that would be great I love that show!” Angela said she had wanted to see all the episodes for so long. It would be great they all would like that she thought. “Well back in the car then.” Micky said opening the door back up and got in. “Yep.” Angela hopped back in and they drove to the Monkees pad. Back at Angela’s Mary and Davy where on the couch taking a brake to get oxygen in their systems then back to making out. Just about two minuets after Davy and Mary started back up a car pulled in the driveway Mary and Davy did not notice it was Micky and Angela back with the videos. Micky walked in the house closely followed by Angela but stopped at the doorway to the living room where he saw Mary and Davy making out. “Angela get the camera.” Micky whispered so that Davy and Mary would not hear him. Angela got the camera and snapped a picture. Davy and Mary looked up when they noticed the flash. “Excuse me who invited you!” Davy yelled looking annoyed because of the interruption. Mary sat up and Davy stood up. “give me the camera Micky!” Davy said running after Micky. “Crap we should have taken the flash off!” Micky yelled passing the camera to Angela who Mary ran after. After a while Mary and Davy remembered the pictures they had and just gave up on getting the camera. “Well Micky what did you get anyway?” Davy asked sitting back down out of breath. Mary sat down next to him and leaned up against him as he put his arm around her. Micky shoved in a video tape and then answered. “Well we went to the hotel and got the video collection of our show.” Micky said sitting in the floor next to Angela. “But Micky I already know what happens.” Davy said sarcastically and grinned at Mary. “Oh Davy you are just showing off but why I like you just the way you are.” Mary leaned over and kissed Davy on the cheek. “Gag me with a spoon!” Angela yelled looking up at Mary and Davy who where cuddled up on the couch. “Angela I think you just need a hug you are jealous. Micky help us out here.” Mary said annoyed with Angela. “Actually Angela why don’t we…” Micky started to grin. “Micky I just need a hug. Don’t even think it. Wait till later.” Angela said elbowing Micky. “ I take it I am staying with Davy again tonight. No problem.” Mary said with a evil look on her face. “Mary don’t get me excited.” Davy said laughing. “Oh boy there goes the hormone twins.” Angela said Laughing. “You know what I need to take a shower.” Mary said getting up. “Me to.” Davy said “Well Davy you can come then.” Mary said motioning for him to go with her. “Trying to save water?” Angela asked sarcastically. Micky laughed and added. “Yes we have to save the planet. You two must of worked up a sweat if you can’t take turns in the shower.” Micky and Angela laughed and rolled around on the floor. Davy stuck his toung out at them and followed Mary up stairs. Micky and Angela where left alone while Davy and Mary spent Many, Many, Many, Many hours in the shower. Micky and Angela where making out the whole time and did not bother to watch the shows. Angela figured hey why watch the show if you have the real thing. Hours later Mary and Davy got out of the shower and got dressed. Micky and Angela where smart enough to hear them and act like they had behaved the fact that Micky was wearing Angela’s shirt and so on had not helped. “I think I should take a shower.” Mary said standing up. “But Mary you just got out of the shower. You and Davy where in there for three hours. If not longer.” Angela said rolling her eyes. “ I forgot to shampoo my hair.” Mary said embarrassed. “What where you doing then.” Micky asked somewhat spacey. “Do you have to ask!” Davy said throwing a pillow at Micky. Mary ran back upstairs and washed her hair in two minuets. By the time mary was out everybody was so tired they went to bed. And unlike before this time they really slept all night. The next morning they all woke up early Davy, Micky, Angela, and the ever so in love Mary went to the beach. Mary whore a two-piece bathing suit and Angela whore a one-piece. “Davy how do I look?” Mary asked stepping out of the dressing room modeling her red bikini. “Great.” Davy said as his eyes popped out and he jerked down his shirt as hard as he could. “Mary I think I will leave the shirt on, I don’t want to get a sunburn.” Davy said through the dressing room door while looking down his pants. “Davy you are not worried. I know why you want to leave your shirt on. Its was not hard to notice.” Mary said laughing and rolling her eyes. “Besides there are about a thousand pictures of you where you have the same problem not like your new to this kind of thing. But if you are more comfortable with the shirt on by all means…” Mary kept talking she was teasing Davy. “Okay I get the point, but the shirt stays on!” Davy yelled through the door trying to sound annoyed but he was just embarrassed that Mary had known what he meant. “I am going to check up on Angela and Micky. Silly.” Mary said walking across to where Angela stood outside the dressing room talking to Micky. “How’s it going Angela?” Mary asked Angela who was rolling her eyes at something Micky said. “Oh Micky is getting ideas about that dressing room. But it is illegal so Micky can forget it.” Angela said looking back at the door to the dressing room. “How is Davy doing?” Angela asked looking over at where Davy was changing. “Well remember that picture that said “The Music “ on it…” Mary began to say. “Oh god Mary I did not need to know that.” Angela said pushing Mary away. “No it is okay he is going to keep his shirt on till it is okay again.” Mary said laughing “Hey Mary!” Davy yelled peeking out from behind the door. “What is it babe?” Mary asked looking confused. “Come here.” Davy said waving for her to come over. Mary walked over to where Davy was. “What is it?” Mary asked not even wanting to know. “Well I don’t think the shirt will help much.” Davy said looking concerned. “Okay here is what we will do, I will have Angela carry our stuff down to the beach and We will pretend to be racing to the water that way you are not running by yourself and you jump in the water as fast as you can. If you run no one will be able to tell.” Mary said thinking fast. “And the water will probably cool you off if you know what I mean.” Mary added and ran over to Angela to tell her the plan and give her their stuff. Mary got ready to race. “Okay Davy ready one… two… three… GO!” Mary yelled and ran with Davy along side. Mary beat Davy to the water and jumped in soon followed by Davy. “Oh god cold!” Davy yelled but stayed in the water. Mary dove under to try to get used to the temperature. “It is not so bad once you get used to it.” Mary said laughing at Davy she thought she knew where it bothered him. “Well now it is not so bad.” Davy said looking down and walking around in the water. “What’s not so bad the water or your…” Mary began to ask but Davy cut her off. “Quiet Mary! There are other people here!” Davy said looking around to see if anybody heard her. “Both. Okay Mary.” Davy said looking around embarrassed. “Oh good.” Mary said and hugged him Davy picked her up and heaved her over his shoulder. “Why did you have to be so pretty?” Davy said teasing her then he dropped her in the water. Mary resurfaced and splashed him. “Would you want me any other way?” Mary asked sarcastically. “Hey you two stop flirting and help us get set up!” Angela yelled laying out towels. Mary and Davy ran out of the water and grabbed their towels. They set up the blanket and then Davy and Mary lay down on it for a while. “Hey Mary a bug hits a windshield, what’s the last thing to go through its mind?” Davy asked grinning. “What Davy?” Mary asked she did not want to know. “It’s but.” Davy said laughing. “Davy gross! I love it!” Mary said throwing her towel at him. Davy threw the towel back and crawled over to where Mary was leaning back. “Mary, god I love you!” Davy exclaimed looking into her eyes then he kissed her on the beach in front of a large crowd of people. “Davy there are other people here you know.” Mary said looking around. “Let um watch, They are just jealous.” Davy said and kissed her again. “Davy I think we should go back to Angela’s if we are going to act like this.” Mary said and winked at him. “Great idea Mary I am not in the mood to swim anyway.” Davy said standing up to go tell Angela and Micky where they were going. “Actually Davy it is too crowded today why don’t we all go back.” Angela said picking up her stuff and going to change. “Mary do you want to change first or second?” Davy asked looking at the one available changing room. “You can go first Davy.” Mary said looking down. “Oh good.” Davy said relived. “Yep.” Mary said laughing to herself. “Shut up Mary you try being a guy.” Davy said shutting the door to the dressing room. A minuet later Mary was in the dressing room and then they where on their way. Riding back in the car Davy and Mary rode in the backseat. Angela and Micky where in the front. Micky drove. God help us. When they got back to the house they all settled in the living room. Mary and Davy of coarse went back to making out. Micky and Angela just shrugged and did the same. About an hour later the front door opened Patrick and Chris walked in to see the two couples in the living room. “Yea get it on!” Chris yelled and jumped on the couch next to Mary and Davy. “AAAAA!” Mary screamed just noticing them. “Patrick what the hell are you doing here!?!” Angela yelled pissed off and surprised. “I’m here to get some stuff. I did not mean to walk in on this orgy or whatever it is.” Patrick said and gave Chris a mischievous look. “Patrick get your crap and go away!” Angela yelled pushing him to get out. “These must be the babysitters then.” Patrick said ignoring his sister. “I am her brother Patrick do I get to know the names of they guys who have been doing my sister and her friend?” Patrick said trying to annoy Angela and Mary. “Well if you really want to know but I think your just jealous of them. My name is Davy and that is Micky.” Davy said trying to get back at Patrick for what he had said. It did not work. “Well I have to go as much as I would like to stay. Enjoy.” Patrick said and left again with Chris. “Angela he wont tell your Dad will he? I don’t want you to get into trouble.” Micky said looking at Angela with some concern. “No he wouldn’t do that trust me I know him.” Angela said pacing back and forth. Mary leaned up against Davy and hugged him. Davy put his arm around her. Mary did not know why but she wanted to cry all of a sudden. “Davy what are we going to do?” Mary asked closing her eyes and leaning her head on his shoulder. “About what?” Davy asked looking at Mary who had a tear running down her cheek. “We only have a few days left then I have to go home and you two have to leave. I will miss you. What if I never see you again? I don’t want that to happen I love you.” Mary said thinking about how many days they had left. “Shhh Mary that wont happen I will come and see you all the time and when your out of high school I will come and take you away to live with me. We still have three days left.” Davy said patting Mary’s back and rocking her back and forth like a baby. Tears streamed down Mary’s face “Please Mary don’t cry I hate to see you like this. I think your just plain tired and you need to sleep. Come on.” Davy picked Mary up and carried her upstairs and laid her on the bed. Davy turned to walk back down stairs but Mary called after him first. “Wait Davy please don’t go I want to be with you.” Mary said rubbing the tears out of her eyes. “I will be right back you just get ready for bed Mary.” Davy said and her walked out of the room and shut the door. Davy walked to where Micky and Angela sat on the couch. “Davy is she okay?” Angela asked concerned about her best friend. “She will be okay. She is just a little over tired she will be okay in the morning. Listen she wants me to stay with her so I am going to bed. Goodnight guys.” Davy said rubbing the back of his neck. “Goodnight Davy. I hope Mary gets better.” Micky said as Davy walked up the stairs. Davy opened the door to their room it was dark and he could hear the sound of Mary breathing heavily and trying to hold back her tears. “Davy?” A faint voice stuttered. “Yes Mary its me.” Davy said in a soft low voice while crawling into bed with Mary. “Davy can you do me a favor?” Mary asked in a shaky voice. “Yes anything in the world.” Davy said very concerned for Mary. “Can you just hug me. I need someone to hold me and say that things will be alright. I sometimes think maybe I love you to much but I can’t help it and I don’t want to loose you.” Mary began to cry again. “Mary I love you and I don’t care what it will take I will never let you go.” Davy said putting his arms around her once again and just holding her like a mother with its baby. Davy just held her close to him and hummed to her one of her favorite songs. “Cheer up sleepy Jene. oh what can it mean to a Daydream Believer and a homecoming queen?” Davy started to sing the words quietly. “Mary I want you to merry me. Not now but someday I want you to be my wife.” Davy said and he slipped his ring on her finger. “Just wear this and keep it forever.” Davy felt like he was going to cry. “Davy I will wear your ring but I am not ready to get meried maybe in few years.” Mary said and hugged him. “Now Mary go to sleep you will feel better in the morning.” Davy said as he slid off his jeans and got ready for bed. “Davy sorry if I disappointed you tonight. I know you had wanted to…” “You are not a disappointment to me Mary. You are the best thing to ever happen to me ever now go to sleep I don’t want to hear another word about it.” Davy said and pulled up the blankets to go to sleep. What a day it had been. The next morning Mary felt much better. “Good morning Davy.” Mary leaned over and kissed him then pulled a shirt over her head. “Hello luv.” Davy said as he sat up in bed. “I am feeling better today.” Mary said looking out her window despite the fact that cloudy, dark and raining mary felt wonderful. “I noticed you looked cheerful this morning.” Davy said pulling on pair of jeans. “I know we will be fine we will keep in touch and I graduate in a year.” Mary said sitting on the edge of the bed fumbling with Davy’s ring in the dark he put on the wrong finger and she was fixing it. “Angela and Micky where up late I heard them going to bed at about three. They will be sleeping late and it is raining so we can’t really go out. What are we going to do?” Mary asked innocently still sitting on the edge of the bed. Davy sat down next to her and thought for a moment. “Crap there is not a goddamed thing to do.” Davy looked at Mary and eyed her up and down. “Oh what the hell come here Davy.” Mary said knowing what he thinking. “You know me to well.” Davy said in the midst of kissing Mary. At about twelve thirty Davy and Mary came out of their room. Micky and Angela where already up. “Well good morning you two.” Angela said digging through the fridge for something to eat. “You guys slept later than us.” Micky said looking at them. Mary and Davy looked at each other. “Alright you guys what is going on why no sick jokes or torment of any kind?” Mary asked suspiciously. “What are you talking about Mary we are just fine. But…” a wide grin spread across Angela’s mouth. “We just don’t know what to do with the video of you two from this morning.” Angela finished her sentence. “Oh.” Mary started to walk out of the room but stopped and swung around. “What!!” Mary asked. “Well we did not actually go to sleep but we did have fun climbing the tree outside your window.” Angela said laughing. “Micky you guys are kidding right?” Davy asked his face was as white as a ghost. “No.” Micky said with a strait face and pulled out a video tape. “Micky give me that right now.” Davy said and started to run after Micky who had bolted up the stairs. “Angela what is so funny we could report you.” Mary said she was pissed. “Mary it is one of the monkees episode tapes. We really got you guys going.” Angela started to roll around on the floor. Micky and Davy ran back down the stairs. “Mary what is up with Angela?” Davy asked looking at her funny. “Davy that is a Monkee episode Micky is carrying.” Mary said pointing to the tape. “Oh.” Davy said relieved then he kicked Micky really hard. “Owe! That hurt!” Micky yelped and grabbed onto his shin. “No it didn’t not me anyway.” Davy said laughing. Micky stuck his toung out at Davy. “What are we going to do today?” Mary asked boosting herself up on the counter. “I don’t know why don’t we play some board games.” Angela said shrugging. “Okay anything but that thing you found in you closet. I know all the answers anyway.” Mary said. “Say why don’t we go to a movie?” Davy said. “That would be a good idea. But what can we go see?” Mary asked puzzled. “They are showing Head.” Micky said. “Oh I wanted to see that.” Mary said while Angela nodded. They all piled into the car and peeled out of the driveway. “Gees Micky kill us why don’t you!” Davy yelled while Micky sped down the road. Angela and Micky took turns driving as they headed down to Bangor to see Head. Davy and Mary sat in the backseat making out. “Take a breath you to! God!” Angela yelled turning around to look at them. Micky just laughed and Mary and Davy ignored her. They did go to Head but they did not actually Watch it if you know what I mean. No not that one not in a movie theater! This story is sick but not that sick. The next day Mary once again was distressed Angela’s parents where coming back the next day and Davy and Micky had to go home. But Mary tried to have as much fun as possible while they had time. She and Davy talked about horses most of the day. Mary told him her story about how she got dragged and Davy told her a few stories himself. The day flew by so fast and soon it was time for bed. “Davy just one more night before we have to say goodbye.” Mary asked him she wanted to make the most of their time together. “No Mary it will be easier to say goodbye if we don’t trust me we will have other moments in the sun.” Davy said sitting next to her holding her hand. Davy took a deep breath. “Hell with that! Lets go for it Mary.” Davy said and hopped into bed. I will let you use your imaginations on this one. The morning came to soon for the two couples and Davy and Mary began to pack their stuff. Micky ha packed the night before so he would be able to spend his time that day with Angela before her father came home. Mike and Peter had gone to their Girlfriend’s houses a few days before and had taken all their stuff with them. “Angela we are back.” Angela’s dad yelled up the stairs Mary, Davy, and Micky carried their belongings down the stairs. Mary helped Davy load his things into the trunk of the car. “Well I guess this is goodbye for a while then.” Mary said as Davy slammed the trunk closed. “Yes but I will write and call often I have your number and address right here.” Davy pulled out a small piece of paper. Mary hugged Davy tight and looked to see if Angela’s dad was there. Seeing that he was not Mary kissed Davy goodbye and gave Micky a little friendship hug. Angela kissed Micky and Hugged Davy as well. Mary and Angela waved as the car pulled out and drove away. Mary and Angela walked down the driveway and just as the car pulled out of sight Mary whispered. “Goodbye My love. Goodbye Davy. Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye.” Tears ran down Mary and Angela’s faces they did not know if they would ever see their nights in shining armor again. A week later the phone rang at Mary’s house Angela was spending the night. They had been sitting in front of her computer crying and listening to Monkees music. They looked at the Many pictures of Davy and Micky they had saved off the internet before they knew what would happen on that one fateful week. “Mary Phone!” Donna Mary’s stepmother yelled up the stairs. Mary’s eyes sparkled from all the tears still to come. Mary ran down the stairs and took the cordless. “Hello?” Mary and Angela took their Backpacks and put them on. “Ready Angela after we do this there is no turning back.” Mary said looking at her to make sure she was okay. “Ready as I can be.” Angela said as Mary Lifted her window and the screen. Mary stepped out on the roof followed by Angela. “Dad and Donna are asleep we have to be quiet. I wrote the note” Mary said sliding down the tree. Mary and Angela adjusted their backpacks once they reached the ground. “The car should be just around the corner.” Mary said reading the piece of paper she had taken notes on. Mary and Angela turned the corner and sure enough there was the car and leaning on it where Davy and Micky. Mary ran up and jumped into Davy’s arms. “I couldn’t wait to see you that is why I called and asked you to come.” Davy said kissing Mary more passionately than ever before. Mary and Angela got in the car and took their plane tickets. “I have never been to California before.” Mary said excited as she had ever been. “Well luv now it is your new home.” Davy said kissing her on the cheek and showing her some pictures of the pad he had saved up to get. “I could not believe it when he announced that we where coming back to get you guys.” Micky said as Davy passed Angela the pictures since Davy could not afford it by himself Micky and Angela where going to be his and Mary’s room mates. Neither of them objected to this after all Micky and Angela where their best friends. “Davy I have never been in an airplane before.” Mary said shakily as they boarded. “Relax it is like being in a car with takeoff and landing.” Davy said holding her hand. “Besides I will be right there what could happen?” Davy said. Hours later Mary crawled off the airplane. “Never again Davy. I will drive I don’t care where it is.” Mary said just happy to see solid ground. “Oh come on Mary you are just airsick.” Davy said carrying her out to the taxi. Micky and Angela carried all the bags. “Besides I want to take you to England someday.” Davy said. “I will drive.” Mary said. “But Mary there is and ocean in the way you can’t drive.” Davy said laughing “I don’t care I will drive anyway.” Mary mumbled and went to sleep leaning on Davy’s shoulder. “She is just tired.” Davy told Micky and Angela who where giggling at what Mary had said. “Or insane whatever you want to call it.” Micky said rolling his eyes. Soon the car pulled up to the pad. Davy carried the sleeping Mary inside and set her on their bed. Davy brushed her hair out of her face and looked at her face as she slept. She was so peaceful and beautiful Davy thought he could stay there forever but he went to get his bag and hers. Davy went through what she had brought looking for something for her to sleep in. He found an envelope that said “To Davy” on it Davy opened it since it had his name on it anyway. It was a letter. The date was for sometime the a few months before they had met.
Dear Davy, You don’t know me and you probably never will. My name is Mary and I am a big fan of yours. I have written a poem for you. You could say I was love struck the moment I saw you and it is about that. A Rose While walking through a garden, I did spy something that caught my eye. A red rose with sparkling dew. A thin stem of deep emerald green, petals so delicate, thorns so mean. The dew drops so pure and clean. I wanted to pick it and keep it with me so. But it will wilt in a day or so. There it sits still today, So bright and peaceful in its way. I’M NOT A ROSE AND MAY NOT STAY BUT SOME THINGS GO ON AND NEVER FADE - Mary Bottom
A Poem Part 2 By Mary Jones
Mary woke to find herself in a place she had never been before. It was early and dark. She could not see to identify the figure next to her on the bed but just by the sound of his breathing she knew who it was. “Davy?” Mary said panicking. “Huh?” Davy said rolling over. “Where are we?” Mary asked grabbing hold of his hand. “We are home you fell asleep on the way and I did not want to wake you.” Davy said softly as he stood up. “Oh sorry to wake you Davy.” Mary apologized to him. “No I actually had to get up in ten minuets anyway.” Davy said glancing at the clock. “At six in the morning?” Mary asked. “Yes just like in Daydream Believer.” Davy said rubbing his eyes to get the blur out of them. “What are you going to do?” Mary asked following him out to the kitchen. “I am going to eat, shave, and go to work.” Davy said groggily while making a pot of coffee. Micky wandered out of his room. “Morning Davy. Morning Mary.” Micky said squinting in the light. “Morning Micky.” Mary and Davy said together. “Davy what day is today?” Micky asked. “Tuesday I think.” Davy said. “Oh.” Micky said pulling out the orange juice and corn flakes. After Micky had poured himself a bowl of corn flakes mary poured herself one but used milk unlike Micky. “How can you eat them like that Micky/” Mary asked looking at his orange juice and corn flakes in disgust. Davy slammed his head up against the cupboard. “Mary don’t even get into it with him please.” Davy begged her. “I just asked.” Mary said Micky ignored them and kept on eating. “He might want to ask us why we are vegetarians and why we can stand that but he doesn’t.” Davy said and waved to Angela who had woke up when she heard Davy’s head crash into the cupboard. “What are you guys doing?” Angela asked staring at Davy and Mary. “Davy is being pissy it must be too early for him.” Mary said and shot Davy a dirty look. “She started it.” Davy said. “Did not. Angela ask Micky.” Mary said pointing at Micky who sat at the table in complete silence. Angela looked at Micky. “What I was just here. Davy started it when Mary asked me about how I eat corn flakes. Davy did not want to listen to me I guess.” Micky said grinning at Davy. He was trying to start trouble. “Micky you are a nail biter. A nail biter and your mother never ever loved you. They do it because I am short. I know.” Davy said pouring a cup of coffee. Mary and Angela started laughing. “Its not funny!” Davy said and took a big gulp of his coffee. “Davy babe you need the coffee.” Mary said pouring herself a cup just for the hell of it. “Too much coffee not enough sex.” Angela told Micky grinning. “mphgrump hgdrhnvxz.” Davy mumbled something and walked into the bedroom to get dressed. “Angela not enough sex is not the problem thank you. Now I have to go say I am sorry.” Mary said setting down her coffee and running after Davy. Davy pushed the door closed but Mary caught it and went in. Davy pulled out his drawers looking for a shirt. “Davy I’m sorry.” Mary said sitting on the edge of the and started to sing a little bit me, a little bit you to him changing the word girl to boy. Davy pretended to be annoyed but soon started to giggle. “Oh Mary how can I stay mad at you I am sorry to.” Davy said kissing her and pulling on a pair of jeans. “When I get out of work we are going to enroll you in school.” Davy said to her. Mary had promised him she would finish school while she lived with him. “Alright Angela is going to right?” Mary asked crossing her arms. “Yes that was part of the agreement.” Davy said brushing out his hair. “I don’t have to work tomorrow. We can spend the day together.” Davy said smiling at her. “Alright what will I do today?” Mary asked starting to get dressed herself. “Whatever you want. You can rearrange the furniture with Angela if you don’t like it what you want to do.” Davy said shrugging. “I will find something to do. Probably cleaning.” Mary said looking around at the mess of cloths on the floor. “Davy you got out something for me to sleep in and put it on me, did you find that letter in my bag?” Mary asked pulling on her trusty Grey fleece hat. “Yes I did.” Davy said sitting on the end of the bed to look at her. “Did you read it?” Mary asked turning around and coming to sit next to him. “Um, yes I did. Sorry but it did have my name on it.” Davy said and shuffled his feet around nervously. “No I don’t I was going to give it to you anyway. That is why I brought it in the first place you know.” Mary said brushing her fingers through his hair. “That poem had a lot of meaning. It was beautiful.” Davy said holding her hand. “I wrote it because even before I met I knew you had to be the one just from the way you looked. It was your eyes and your smile I just knew.” Mary said she felt like she was going to cry. “Mary I love you so much. Say you will never leave my side.” Davy said kissing her on the cheek. “I will never leave you.” Mary said smiling and returning the kiss. “I have to go to work or we don’t eat.” Davy said and Mary giggled. Mary followed Davy out into the hall where Micky was waiting. “You ready Davy?” Micky asked impatiently. “Yes.” Davy said pulling on his coat. “Bye Davy Bye Micky see you later.” Mary said and blew Davy a kiss on his way out. Angela waved. “Now what do we do?” Angela asked looking around. “I am going to start cleaning this place is a mess.” Mary said scooping up a pile of stuff off the floor. “Good idea I will help.” Angela said running in the kitchen to clean the dishes off the table. Angela put the dishes in the sink and left them to soak. “Mary what are we going to do we don’t have much for cloths?” Angela asked unpacking what she had. “We will have to get after school jobs to pay for that.” Mary said groaning. “Oh.” Angela said closing the dresser drawer while mary picked up the laundry. “Well Angela we knew life would be hard if we did this.” Mary yelled from her and Davy’s room while gather their laundry. “There.” Mary and Angela glanced around the apartment in approval. “You know we will just trash it in a day knowing us.” Angela said flopping down on the couch. “It is the thought that counts.” Mary said optimistically. “Angela do we have any money at all?” Mary asked looking at her unsure. Angela and Mary both dug deep into their pockets. “I have a ten and two ones.” Angela said. “I have a five.” Mary said frowning. “Do we need any food for today?” Mary said getting up to look in the fridge. “Angela we need to pick up some milk and orange juice for Micky.” Mary yelled to Angela who had a piece of paper and a pen. “We have to wait till Davy and Micky get back to go though.” Angela said remembering that they where in California and did not know their way around. Mary and Angela watched TV for a few hours then Micky and Davy came home. “Hi honey how was your day?” Mary asked giving Davy a kiss. “Oh it was okay you know how being in a band can be.” Davy said hanging up his jacket. “Davy we need to store to get some food. And we need to register for school.” Mary said handing him a list. “You know Mary I never finished school.” Davy said looking at. “I know but I think it would be a good idea to. I need to get a job sometime and finishing school always helps.” Mary said sighing. “I just was telling you in case you thought you might not want to go.” Davy said hugging her. “Mary you and Angela cleaned the place up real well.” Micky said looking around. “We had nothing else to do.” Mary said and shrugged. “We are not used to where everything is yet so this was a good way to find out.” Angela added smiling as Micky put his arms around her waits and kissed her on the cheek. “What are we going to do today?” Mary asked glancing at the clock. “I don’t know.” Davy said rubbing his chin. “Why don’t we stay in and play a board game?” Micky sigested walking over to the closet to see what they had. “Okay but why don’t we play truth or dare instead of a board game.” Mary said grinning at Davy. “Hey that’s a great idea.” Micky said running over. “Micky you start.” Mary said. “Oh that’s a terrible idea.” Micky said frowning. “I will start.” Angela said with a wicked grin. “I’m scared.” Mary said gripping on to Davy and hiding behind him. “Well there is something you don’t see every day, Someone hiding behind Davy and Not being to tall.” Micky said laughing. “Shut up! That’s not funny.” Davy said stepping out from in front of Mary. “He’s not all that short. He's perfect for me anyway.” Mary said running her fingers through his hair and kissing him. “Hey are we going to play or what?” Angela said getting impatient. “Yes lets go out in the living room.” Mary said noticing they where all standing in the hall. ”Great.” Davy said following Mary out and sitting on the floor next to her. “Owe!” Mary yelled and slapped Davy on the arm. “What happened?” Angela asked confused. “Davy pinched me.” Mary said giving him a dirty look. “Where?” Angela asked. “Do I have to say?” Mary asked flatly. “Oh.” Angela said nodding. “Well Angela pick somebody.” Mary urged her on. “Okay Mary then.” Angela said grinning. “Truth!” Mary yelled to be on the safe side. “Dam!” Angela swore. “No help either.” Davy said giving Micky a dirty look. “Okay this is lame but oh well. Mary if Davy was older than you how old would be too old for you to even want to look at him?” Angela asked with mischief in her eyes. “Very funny Angela. 1000,000,000 and a half or more…” Mary scratched her head. “Angela its not about age its about life.” Davy said trying to be philosophical. “Age only matters if you are cheese.” Micky said trying to outdo Davy. “Oh shut up. Mary your turn.” Angela said. “Oh I will surly die!” Mary gasped for air spun sideways and fell backwards into Davy’s lap pretending to faint. “Oh fair lady just pick!” Davy said pushing her up. “Davy, truth or dare?” Mary asked leaning up against him. “Dare.” Davy said bravely. “Dam!” Mary swore. Davy grinned. “I am bad at those.” Mary mumbled. “Oh I have one.” Angela almost fell off the couch Micky caught her. “Shut up Angela!” Mary and Davy both yelled they did not want to know. “Davy I dare you to…” Mary began to speak but the phone rang. Davy ran to get it. Micky got there first. “Hello.” Micky said grinning. “Oh you must have the wrong number we don’t have a phone.” Micky said and hung up. “Who was that?” Davy asked laying his head in Mary’s lap. “It was peter.” Micky said. “Micky now he will never call again he will believe you.” Davy said groaning. The phone rang again. This time Davy got it. “Hello?” Davy asked. “Oh hi Mike. Yes Micky did say that.” Davy said giving Micky a dirty look. “Yes I will tell Peter we have a phone. Put him on.” “Yes Peter we have a phone Micky tricked you again.” Davy said rolling his eyes. “What did you want?” Davy asked. “Hey guys want to go over there to hang out?” Davy asked covering up the phone. “Sure.” Mary said and Micky and Angela nodded. “Yea we will be over in a minuet.” Davy said and hung up the phone. Mary stood up and straitened out her shirt. “So we are going over to hang out?” Mary asked. “Yes they had no good reason for having us over.” Davy said with a strange look on his face. “Its peter we are talking about. Since when has he needed a reason to do something.” Micky said shrugging. “Well lets go.” Davy said grabbing the keys. “Davy I want to drive.” Micky said. “No I am going to I never get to.” Davy said gripping on the keys so hard his knuckles turned white. “Fine Davy just let me make out my will…” Micky mumbled rolling his eyes. “Davy I don’t think I have ever seen you drive.” Mary said scratching her head. “There is a good reason for that you know.” Micky said shivering. “Is not . You lie!” Davy said giggling. “You both are scaring me I will have bad dreams tonight.” Mary said opening the door. “Why don’t we have Mary drive and that will solve that.” Angela suggested. “That will work.” Micky said agreeing. “Angela have you ever seen me drive?” Mary asked giving her a funny look. Angela grinned. “Yes you drive fine.” Angela nodded Mary knew what she was doing. “Okay Davy give me the keys you can drive on the way back. I need the practice anyway.” Davy handed mary the keys. “Mary do you have a license?” Davy asked not remembering ever seeing one. “Yes I have had it for a month.” Mary said grinning. “Mary give me the keys.” Davy said trying to get them back. “No you said I could drive.” Mary said running down the stairs. “I changed my mind.” Davy said running after her. Angela and Micky just walked out. Mary managed to get in the drivers side and start the car. Davy was on the passenger side praying. “Davy stop it I am a good driver. And besides I never hit more than one tree in one run.” Mary said winking at Angela. “I bet we will die.” Micky said noticing that Mary could barely reach the peddles. “Davy look she has a harder time with the peddles than you do!” Micky said in amazement. “Does she? Hey wait a sec! Not funny!” Davy said looking annoyed. “May try to get the back rammed will you?” Davy said grinning. “Now you’ve done it.” Angela said gripping on to Micky’s arm. “Ready here I go.” Mary said and pulled out. Mary pulled out on to the road. “We are going to die I just know it!” Davy said covering his eyes when Mary reached Thirty. “We will not fasten you seat belt if you are worried.” Mary said hitting his arm. “Oh okay.” Davy said reaching for his belt. “You not supposed to put it on! You are suppose to say you trust me.” Mary said giving Davy a dirty look. “So I am scared.” Davy said grinning. “Oh shut up.” Mary said keeping her eyes on the road. “Turn here.” Micky said instructing her on where to go. “Left?” “Right.” “Right?” “No left!” Mary turned left. Davy laughed. “I have never been here before Davy you give me a break.” Mary said annoyed. “Davy you get to drive on the way back I want to see how well you do.” Mary said grinning. Davy gave her a superior look. “Yes I will drive and I am a good driver to.” Davy stated. “He he he.” Micky snickered in the back seat. “Shut up Micky!” Davy said turning around. “That house.” Micky pointed. “Yep.” Mary pulled into the driveway. “We are here you are safe Davy.” Mary said turning off the car and handing over the keys. “Thank god.” Davy said getting out and shoving the keys into his pockets. “Be careful or I can revoke you privileges.” Mary said glaring at him. “Not fair. I will behave then.” Davy said dragging his feet. Mary giggled. “Hey guys what’s up?” Peter asked looking at Mary and Davy. “Hi Peter. Davy was picking on my driving.” Mary said putting her arms around him. “Davy shouldn’t be talking. You ever seen him drive?” Mike said laughing. “My driving is fine.” Davy said. “Davy can I have the keys back?” Mary asked. “No.” Davy said flatly. “I will get them myself then.” Mary said grinning. “They are in my back pocket you can’t” Davy said teasing her. “Who says I can’t.” Mary grinned. “I do.” Davy said getting ideas. Mary slapped his arm. “Don’t even think it. You may have messed up your chances for tonight anyway.” Mary said sitting on the floor. Davy dug into his pockets. “Here take the keys.” Davy said tossing them to her. “Davy this is a side of you I have never seen. It must be pretty nice if you will give her the keys for it.” Micky said laughing. Angela looked at him. “Wouldn’t you give me the car keys?” Angela asked insecurely. “Yes but Davy is really possessive of the car keys. We never let him drive.” Micky said explaining himself. “Hey stop discussing my personal life.” Davy said giving Micky a dirty look. “Mary brought it up.” Micky said shrugging. “Davy was thinking it first.” Mary said. “Blame it on the short one sure.” Davy said with an attitude. “but Davy I am shorter than you.” Mary said giving him a weird look. “But it is okay for girls to be short.” Davy said. “Davy you know what it is like to be in school and have to jump to get stuff out of you locker.” Mary said. “You are short aren’t you.” Davy said smirking. “Bet you don’t get to say that often do you Davy?” Angela asked leaning up against Micky. “Hey where is Peter?” Micky asked looking around. “I don’t know.” Mike said running to the stairs. “Pete?” He yelled up the stairs. “What?” Peter yelled back. “What are you doing?” Mike asked. “Nothing why?” Peter asked. “Davy, Mary, Micky, And Angela are here.” Mike yelled up the stairs. “Oh yea I forgot.” Peter said running back down the stairs and stopping part way to sit. “Pete you are the one who asked them over.” Mike said checking his forehead. “Peter is even more forgetful than usual.” Micky commented. “Pete what did you want?” Davy asked looking at him funny. “I just wanted to see you guys you are never around now that you moved and you have girlfriends.” Peter put his arms around his knees and rocked back and forth. “Hey Pete cheer up sometime we will have guys night.” Davy said patting him on the back. “Yea we should do that this week.” Micky said. “When?” Peter asked looking up. “When should we Davy?” Micky asked. “I am spending tomorrow with Mary I said I would.” Davy said with a guilty look on his face. “Oh that’s okay Davy if you want to cancel and spend it with Peter. After all I see you everyday we live together.” Mary spoke up. “You sure? Mary if you want me to stay with you I will.” Davy said looking at her suprised. “Oh no I will spend the day with Angela learning the way around town. You should spend time with him so he gets used to you being away slowly.” Mary said smiling but her eyes looked as though they had been deep in space. “OH thanks Mary this really will mean a lot to Peter.” Davy said hugging her. “Peter we can spend the day together tomorrow and do guy stuff.” Davy said as Micky nodded. “Oh wow! Can we even go to the zoo?” Peter asked eagerly. “Whatever you want to do. Micky and I will get you at ten tomorrow okay.” Davy said giving Mary a look. He was trying to say he was sorry. “We should go home and sleep then.” Micky said yawning and looking at his watch. “Yes you should get some sleep to Peter.’ Davy said pulling on his jacket. “Mary do you have the keys?” Davy asked. “No I gave them to Micky.” Mary said. “Oh.” Davy said. Mary got in the back of the car. Davy got in the other side. Micky turned the key. “Here we go.” Micky said pulling out of the driveway. “Mary.” Davy said tapping her on the arm. Mary was staring at the sky outside the window. “Mary?” Davy nudged her a little harder. “Huh.” Mary spun around to look at Davy. “Mary I know you are not okay with this. I will call Peter when we get home and tell him I am not going.” Davy said looking Mary strait in the eyes. “No Davy don’t he is so excited and I do get to see you more often. I was looking forward to an entire day with you though.” Mary said grabbing hold of Davy’s hand. “Saturday I have the day off but Peter seemed to be in a hurry to spend time with me. Saturday you have me to yourself no matter what.” Davy promised her. “You swear?” Mary asked doubtfully. “I swear. Mary my love I want nothing more than to make you happy really I do.” Davy said pulling her close to him. “We’re here.” Micky said pulling into the driveway of their home. “Good Davy and I should go to bed.” Mary said giving Davy a wink. “Yes I think we should.” Davy said returning the wink. Micky walked up the steps and unlocked the door. “It is nice to get home. Mary said hanging up her hat. “Well goodnight Micky. Goodnight Angela.” Mary said and walked into her room. “Goodnight fellas.” Davy said and ran in after her. Angela looked at Micky. “What a bunch of Randy Scouse Gits!” Angela exclaimed and yawned. “I know they are always getting ideas. Not that they are all that bad.” Micky said eyeing Angela. Well since you will be gone tomorrow I guess so.” Angela said and walked into her room followed by Micky. “Davy I know I told you, you had lost your chance but you will be gone tomorrow and I want to make the most of the time I have you tonight.” Mary said sitting on the end of the bed Davy was next to her. He kissed her on the cheek. “I want to spend as much time as I can with you and never let you go. You are all that matters to me.” Davy held her close. “You are the sweetest guy I have ever met. Davy I love you more than anything.” Mary said kissing him. “Mary all I want to do is make you happy. Whatever you want I will get you. What is it you want in life?” Davy asked holding her Mary’s head leaned up against his chest. “All I ever wanted was a man who I could love and who could love. I wanted some one to hug and to hold me and tell me we would be okay. Some one sweet, funny, Smart, And about 5’3”.” Mary said smiling at him. “Davy you are all I need or want. I don’t care if we have kids or if we have to starve and sacrifice to survive. Just as long as I have you what do I need?” Mary leaned n his shoulder. “Can we have kids?” Davy asked pleading. “Yes we can have a billion if you want that many.” Mary said laughing. The next morning the four of them where up bright and early. “Hey Mary what's up with Davy?” Micky asked as Davy stomped around the house. “Too much sex not enough coffee?” Angela asked giggling. “No he is just not a morning person.” Mary said pouring Davy a cup of coffee. “Davy come get your coffee.” Mary yelled after him as he disappeared into the darkness of their room. “I will be out in a minuet babe.” Davy yelled digging through his boots. “Mary I can’t tell the difference between your shoes and mine.” Davy yelled out. Mary giggled. “I will be in with your coffee in a sec to help identify them.” Mary said picking up his coffee in one hand and carrying hers in the other. “It would help if you turned on the light.” Mary said switching the lights on. “Oh yes I suppose it would.” Davy said taking his cup of coffee. “Thanks love.” Davy said kissing her on the cheek. “The ones to the left of the black heels are all yours and to the right of them are mine. If you get the wrong pair you should be able to tell.” Mary said and took a sip of her coffee. “Thanks Mary I don’t know what I would do without you.” Davy said pulling her close to him. “Go barefoot?” Mary asked giggling. “Smart ass.” Davy said finishing up his coffee. “So when will you be home today?” Mary asked quietly. “I don’t know I will call and tell you after I know what Peter wants to do.” Davy said looking at his watch and selecting a pair of boots. “I will wait by the phone until you call. If you don’t call I will surly die.” Mary said raising her hand up to her forehead and gasping in despair. “O fair lady I shall call and be home after the sun has touched the west horizon.” Davy said getting down on one knee. Micky walked past their doorway. “Davy are you proposing?” Micky asked looking suprised. “No I am bidding my queen farewell.” Davy said kissing her hand. “I will be back before you even know I was gone.” Davy said and slid away out of the bedroom. “Is it hot in here or was it just Davy? It was Davy.” Mary said to herself. “I heard that!” Davy yelled back to her. “Spy!” Mary yelled giggling. “Oh that hurt! You got me right in the kidney! Oh the pain!” Davy said falling all over the house. “Funny.” Mary said walking out into the living room where he was on the floor rolling around pretending to be hurt. “Davy you ready?” Micky asked standing by the door. “Yes.” Davy looked up from where he was rolling on the floor. “Lets go then we are already late.” Micky said opening the door. “Until tonight fair lady.” Davy said giving Mary a kiss on the way by. “Goodbye good sir night.” Mary said closing the door and blowing him a kiss. “Why didn’t you just strip for him?” Angela asked rolling her eyes. “You are just jealous because you and Micky are not like that. I love him and I am not afraid to show it.” Mary said sitting on the couch. “Jackass.” Angela said sitting in a chair. “Am not!” “Jackass. Davy is a Randy Scouse Jackass to.” “Is not he is a Randy Scouse Git but not a jackass.” “Is to.” “Shut up.” Mary said annoyed. “No.” Angela retorted. “At least I have actually said that I love Davy you have never told me you love Micky.” Mary said stretching. “I love Micky you happy?” Angela said sticking her toung out at Mary. “Yes. Congrades on joining the real world.” Mary said throwing a pillow at Angela. “You are grumpy aren’t you. I think you have had too much sex and not enough coffee.” Angela said rolling her eyes. “I have enough coffee in the morning. I just didn’t sleep last night.” Mary said curling up on the couch and putting a pillow over her head. “What where you doing if you where not sleeping?” Angela asked mischievously. “Do you have to ask!?!” Mary yelled throwing the pillow that had been over her head at Angela. “Yes.” Angela said cynically. “What where you and Micky doing?” Mary asked. “Can’t tell its confidential.” Angela said throwing back the pillow. “Yea right.” Mary said tuning away and trying to go to sleep. “Mary go to bed.” Angela said turning on the TV. “Good idea.” Mary said getting up to go in her room. “Goodnight Mary.” Angela said throwing a pillow at Mary’s head. “Goodnight.” Mary said and disappeared into the darkness of her room closing the door behind her. “Davy can we go to the zoo? Can we? Can we? Can we?” Peter asked jumping up and down. “Yes Peter and we can do whatever else you want to do.” Davy said smiling at Mike as he entered the house. “Wow it is weird to be here since I don’t live here anymore.” Davy said looking around everything was still the same. “Well Davy it has not been that long since you left to live with Mary.” Mike said shrugging. “Mike are you coming with us today?” Micky asked. “Well I have nothing else to do today.” Mike said standing up. “Great lets go.” Micky said pulling out the keys. “Micky can I drive?” Davy asked looking at the keys. “Here we go again.” Mike said throwing his hands in the air. “No Davy.” Micky said opening the door. “Why not?” Davy asked running out after Micky. “Your too short you can’t reach the peddles.” Micky said getting in the car. “Mary can and she is about my height.” Davy said. “Mary is a little taller even though we pretend she isn’t.” Micky said explaining. “Yea by and inch.” Davy said annoyed. “Davy just get in Peter wants to go.” Mike said from the backseat. “Fine. Don’t get excited, man, just because I’m short. I know.” Davy said getting in and crossing his arms. “Davy you can drive later okay.” Micky said pulling out of the driveway. “Okay. Fellas what time will we be going home I told Mary I would call and tell her.” Davy said turning around. “Davy your not married to her… Yet.” Mike said rolling his eyes. “Peter what do you want to do today? Besides going to the zoo.” Micky asked. “I don’t know I just want us to do things like we used to before you got girlfriends and moved out.” Peter said. “Basically you just want to act stupid and get into a lot of trouble.” Davy said. “Yes.” “I will tell Mary eight.” Davy said as Micky pulled into the zoo. “Okay peter we are here what do you want to see first?” Micky asked before Peter had a chance to run off. “Um… The penguins!” Peter said excited. “Okay but stay with us okay. We don’t want to get lost do we?” Davy said getting out. “No that would be bad.” Peter said. “Oh can we feed the goats to?” Peter said remembering them. “Yes we can just don’t let them eat your shirt again.” Micky said buying tickets to the zoo. “Oh I wont.” Peter said jumping up and down. “Davy what's up with you? You are very quiet today.” Mike asked biting his lip. “Huh.” Davy looked up he had been chewing his nails. “Oh nothing just thinking about Mary. I wonder what she is doing.” Davy said looking up at the sky. “We can stop in later if you want Mary wont mind that will she?” Mike said trying to cheer up Davy. “Yea we can do that. Mary wont mind at all.” Davy said his eyes brightened. “I feel kind of guilty about going out with you guys rather than staying with her like I told her I would.” Davy said. “Well you want to make it up to her then?” Mike asked getting an idea. “Yes but how.” Davy asked. “Take her out and show her a good time and buy her a flower maybe.” Mike said. “Yea we have never gone out come to think of it.” Davy said still chewing his nails. “Not one date?” Mike asked surprised. “No. Not one.” Davy said amazed himself. “And you live with her.” Mike said laughing. “Well it is because of the way we met in the first place.” Davy said shrugging. “Oh yea you where her babysitter. Her parents trusted you to take care of her and use good judgement. And then she ran away with…” “Shut up Mike I know what you are saying but she is a big girl and can take care of herself I did not drag her out here. She is too smart for that she came because she loves me.” Davy said beginning to wonder himself. “Davy maybe you put words in her mouth.” Mike said with some concern. “No that can’t be she is always telling me she loves me.” Davy said shaking his head. “What do you think her parents are thinking right now. They had a sixteen year old daughter one day. And the next she had ran away with her babysitter she had only known a week.” Mike said scratching his head. “Mike stop it.” Davy said getting annoyed. “Davy come look at the penguins!” Peter yelled looking back at them. “Lets stop talking about my personal life and pay some attention to Peter.” Davy said and ran up ahead. “Sorry Davy I am just a little concerned about weather or not you are doing the right thing.” Mike yelled up. “Oh Mary our up again. You have got to see this.” Angela said pointing at the TV. “What…” Mary gasped looking at the figures on the TV screen. “Why are our parents on TV?” Mary asked confused. “Begging us to come home or call at least.” Angela said. “Well I will call. But from a payphone so they cant track us home.” Mary said “well lets go and find a phone. There is one just outside.” Angela said standing up. “Hello?” A formilure voice answered. “Dad?” Mary asked. “Mary?” Her father asked sounding relieved. “Yes Dad its me. I’m okay.” “Mary came home right now.” Mary’s dad said firmly. “No Dad I can’t. I am here for a reason and you just have to accept that.” Mary said her voice was shaking. “Mary I think you made a big mistake and you can make the right decision and come home now and there will be no consequence. That boy what's his name had corrupted your mind.” “Davy has not. I love him and trust him he can take care of me and I can take care of myself as well. I am not stupid and if this is a mistake I am willing to make it because I don’t want to make a bigger one fixing this one.” “Mary I guess you wont listen to me but I am going to look for you and Davy will get charged with kidnapping.” “But he didn’t I came on my own free will and he is underage so it is not like he is a pervert either.” Y said annoyed and defensive. “Look Dad I did not even have to call you and tell you I was okay I could have left you to worry until I was eighteen.” Mary said threatening him. “Well I guess you are right. You where responsible enough to call. Look I will let you stay just as long as you call once a week and tell me you are okay. But if I ever have one doubt I will come and find you.” Mary’s dad said. Mary sat up in bed and shook her head what a dream. What if her dad did find her and get Davy arrested? Mary did not want that to happen she loved him. Mary’s head was pounding she stood up slowly and tried to keep her balance. “Ouch.” Mary said realizing she had gone to sleep in a belt and it had left a red mark. “Angela where is the aspirin?” Mary asked wandering out into the kitchen. “I don’t know you will have to look for it.” Angela yelled out of the living room. Mary cringed her head hurt from the loud noise. “Found it.” Mary mumbled and tried to get it open. “Dam caps.” Mary mumbled as she pried it open. Mary took two aspirin and swallowed them with a glass of water. “Angela I had a really bad dream. I called Dad to tell him I was okay and he told me he was going to have Davy arrested and all kinds of other stuff.” Mary said sitting down on the couch. Davy walked through the door with the rest of the guys. Mary put a pillow over her head and curled up on the couch trying to block out the noise. In a few seconds the aspirin had started to work. “Hi Davy.” Mary said sitting up. Davy looked at her funny. “Oh my aspirin just kicked in I had a headache.” Mary said explaining. “Oh how are you feeling?” Davy asked putting his hand on her forehead. “I feel fine I just had a nightmare and got stressed out that’s all.” Mary said taking his hand. “Oh we thought we would stop in to say hi and check up on you.” Davy said. “But we can go if you want.” Davy said a little bit concerned. “Oh no you can stay for a while. What happened to Peter?” Mary asked looking at Peter who’s shirt was in shreds. “Oh Pete wanted to feed the goats.” Davy said. “Oh.” Mary said looking at Peter funny. “Long story I will tell you later.” Davy said. “Peter anything else you wanted to do?” Micky asked exosted. “No I think this is good for one day.” Peter said looking at his shirt or its remains anyway. “I will drive you home then.” Micky said standing up. “Davy you can stay here.” Micky said. “Okay yes sure.” Davy said nodding. “Well bye guys.” Mike said pushing Peter out the door. “Bye Mike.” Mary said waving. Davy waved and collapsed on the couch. “Tired?” Mary asked laughing. “Yes. God yes.” Davy said curling up like a ball on the couch. “Yea. You look like Mary when she has just gotten off an airplane.” Angela said laughing. “Shut up Angela!” Mary said hugging Davy. “Grumpy.” Angela said rolling her eyes and wandering out of the room. “I get this strange feeling that right now my dad is going through the files on my computer.” Mary said yawning. “Mary do you think we made the right choice?” Davy asked taking her into their bedroom to talk. “What do you mean?” Mary asked looking at Davy confused. “I mean should we have waited for you to be out of school first?” Davy asked concerned. “I think that we made the best decision we could knowing what we know.” Mary said kissing him. “I just worry that maybe you don’t love me and you are here because I dragged you here.” Davy said taking her hand. “No Davy I am here because I love you I would not have come otherwise.” Mary said smiling. “If you think you should you can go home I will not stand in your way.” Davy said still holding her hands. “I want to stay I love you and nothing will ever change that.” Mary said. “I just wanted you to know that I don’t want to hold you back because you don’t want to hurt me. I will be happy for you no matter what you decide. Okay.” Davy said smiling. “Okay but I still want to stay if that is okay with you.” Mary said hugging him. “You can stay forever. I love you Mary.” Davy said holding her close to him. “I love you to.” Mary said leaning her head on his shoulder. “I love you to.” Micky said standing at the door. “Micky go away! Where you there the whole time?” Davy yelled at him and his face turned red. “Davy’s embarrassed. Don’t worry Mary he will protect you.” Micky said running off. “Oh god.” Davy said closing the door. “Only he would listen to us like that. Only he could stand to.” Mary said. “What do you mean?” Davy asked looking at her funny. “I mean if I had to listen to us go on the way we do I would think it was stupid. You know the way we are always hugging and all that.” Mary said. “Do you want to stop that then?” Davy asked disappointed. “Oh no I love the way you treat we. Never could have imagined a better way to be treated but if you had to watch another couple like that wouldn’t you get sick.” Mary said explaining. “Oh yes you do have a point. I hope Micky throws up then.” Davy said grinning. Mary giggled and stood up to go back into the living room. “I really do love you more than anything else on earth.” Davy said as she left the room. “I know you say it with everything you do.” Mary said and closed the door.
A Poem Part 3 By Mary Jones
Mary woke up to the sound of Davy bumping into a chair. “Davy its early what are you doing?” Mary asked groggily while squinting to see him. “I couldn’t sleep.” Davy said. “Oh well I am up now why don’t you just come here and cuddle with me. I could use a hug and kiss.” Mary said smiling. “Sure you know today is Saturday.” Davy said sliding back under the covers. “I know. And I have you to myself for the entire day.” Mary said hugging Davy. “Yep and I bet you feel lucky to.” Davy said smugly. “I sure do.” Mary said kissing him on the cheek. “What are we going to do today then?” Mary asked. “Well later I have a surprise for you.” Davy said grinning. “What is it?” Mary asked. “Now, if I told you it wouldn’t be a surprise.” Davy said teasing her. “Oh you!” Mary exclaimed and kissed him on the tip of his nose. “Now why did you kiss me there?” Davy asked running his fingers through her hair. “Well where do you want me to kiss you then?” Mary asked. “How about here?” Davy asked kissing her on the lips. “That I have no problem with.” Mary said and kissed him back. “Good.” Davy replied then they just lay there in silence exchanging kisses and holding each other tight. “Micky are you awake?” Angela asked hearing a change in the patter of his breathing. “I am now. What?” Micky said rolling over to face her. “I just wondered. I can’t sleep I don’t know why I just have this funny feeling hat something is wrong.” Angela said she was not used to feeling this way. “Oh your just tired its your imagination.” Micky said kissing her. “Well since we are up…” Micky began to speak but Angela cut him off. “All right we might as well there is nothing else to do.” Angela kissed Micky back. “Groovy!” Micky said Angela cringed. “I hate that word.” She said giggling. “Sorry.” Screech! The door to Mary and Davy’s bedroom squeaked open. Davy cringed. “That does not sound good.” He said stepping out onto the cold floor in the hall. Mary shivered. “It’s a bit chilly today.” Mary said wrapping her arms around in front of her. “Oh it will warm up quick it is just that we are up early. And if you listen you can hear that Micky and Angela are to but lets just leave them to do that.” Davy said grinning. “Your bad.” Mary said pushing him. “I know and you love it to.” Davy said pushing her back. “You know me to well.” Mary said opening the door to the fridge. “Anything in there?” Davy asked looking through the cupboards. “No not a thing.” Mary said closing the door. “Davy you find anything?” Mary asked leaning back on the counter. “Nothing but one orange. I will split it with you.” Davy said tossing it back and forth between his hands. “Sure its better than nothing.” Mary said catching it. “Hey I was throwing that around.” Davy said following her out to the living room and sitting next to her on the couch. Mary peeled it and took half. Davy took the other half. “Oh what a day nothing to eat and we have no money till Monday.” Davy said as Mary leaned up against him. “I know. Davy I think I should get a job we need more money. We can’t live off the salary of two musicians alone.” Mary said looking out the window at the stars. “I know but what are you going to do?” Davy asked picking up the paper from the day before to look at the wanted adds. “I don’t know what do they have that I could possibly do?” Mary asked still gazing out the window. “Nothing really most of the jobs are for men of you need to be able to type faster that Micky plays the drums.” Davy said sighing. “Wow.” Mary said. “What is it?” Davy asked noticing Mary was not paying much attention to what he was saying. “Oh its just the stars. It is so clear tonight. I have never watched stars before.” Mary said Davy could see universes in her eyes. “They are beautiful. Not as beautiful as you though.” Davy said hugging her. “Your such a sweetheart.” Mary said and kissed him. “Mary do you ever wonder how this all got started?” Davy asked looking out the window. “Wonder about what?” Mary asked sighing. “How the universe got started how we came to be.” Davy said. “Yes but I will never know so I try not to think about it.” Mary said sniffling. “Mary are you crying?” Davy asked looking at her just I time to catch sight of a tear falling to the floor. “Yes.” Mary said wiping her eyes. “Why?” Davy asked wiping away one of the tears dangling from her chin. “Because all through my life I never imagined this. The way my life would be.” Mary said turning to look at Davy. “I mean look at us we have virtually almost nothing. I barely have enough clothes and we don’t eat regularly. But even if we have almost no possessions I am the happiest I have ever been in my life just because I am with you and I love you. I always thought that happiness was a house, a car, and 2.5 children.” Mary said holding on to Davy who for a second time found himself holding her and trying to comfort her. “Mary I love you I don’t know if I understand but I think I do.” Davy said rocking her back and forth. Mary soon calmed down and exasperated from crying fell asleep in Davy’s arms. Davy carried her into their room and laid her down on the covers to rest. Davy settled in next to her to look at her. He had never watched her sleep and he thought of how beautiful she was dreaming off in another world away from all her troubles. The whole world seemed so peaceful to him he had never seen things this way before. Mary brought out a side in him he had never known he had. He liked it. “I never really knew what I wanted. I thought it would be a house and some horses a few things. I don’t have any of those things but look at me as happy as I can ever be.” Davy wrote in his journal as he lay next to Mary. Davy closed the book and slipped it under the mattress when Mary began to wake. “Davy?” Mary said half asleep. “Yes?” Davy asked running his fingers through her shoulder length auburn hair. “Where am I?” Mary asked curling up under the covers. “Home with me.” Davy smiling and kissing her forehead softly. Mary smiled but did not open her eyes. Mary sighed. “Oh.” Mary said and fell back into a deep sleep. “Goodnight Mary.” Davy said closing the door and walking out into the kitchen to make coffee. Davy yawned as he flicked on the light switch. “Morning Davy.” Angela said tightening the rope on her robe. “Morning Angela.” Davy said humming a song. “Your in a good mood today.” Angela said opening the fridge door. “Yes I am. There is noting to eat.” Davy said sitting down at the table. “What happened that turned you into Mr. Morning?” Angela asked confused. Micky wandered out into the kitchen. “Good morning Micky.” Davy said singing and dancing around the kitchen. “I hate morning people. Wait that’s Davy. What's up with Davy?” Micky asked groggily. “I don’t know I got up and he was out here acting like a nutcase.” Angela said shrugging. “Davy where is Mary?” Micky asked leaning back to see into the living room. “She is still sleeping.” Davy said still dancing as he pored his coffee. “He’s gone crackers!” Micky said. “Hey that’s my line!” Davy said annoyed. “Sorry but you can’t talk about yourself.” Micky said. “Oh yea watch me. I’ve gone crackers!” Davy said rolling his eyes then running out of the room to check on Mary. “Mary you up?” Davy asked swinging open the bedroom door. “I am now.” Mary said standing up and wiping the blur out of her eyes. “Why are you in such a good mood?” Mary asked shaking her head trying to wake up. “I don’t know I just am.” Davy said running back out of the room. “Wait Davy.” Mary called after him. “Yes?” Davy’s head popped back through the doorway. “Don’t you think you should get dressed after all you running around in boxers.” Mary said pointing at his shorts. “Oh yes I should.” Davy said realizing he was in his underwear. “I need some coffee. Did you make any?” Mary asked waiting for Davy to get done getting dressed to open the door. “Yes I did.” Davy said Mary had to strain to hear him he was pulling on a shirt. “Good. Are Angela and Micky up?” Mary asked opening the door. “Yes.” Davy said pulling out a pair of shoes. “Okay.” Mary said slipping out the door and wandering into the kitchen. “Good morning Mary.” Micky said sitting at the table reading a book. “Morning Micky. Morning Angela.” “Oh good morning Mary didn’t notice you.” Angela said climbing off the counter. “Angela what where you doing?” Mary asked. “Looking for food we don’t have anything.” Angela complained sitting at the table. “I know it. Davy does not get any money till Monday either.” Mary said boosting herself up on the counter. “Hey don’t worry fellas we’ll think of something.” Davy said entering the room. “Like what?” Micky asked laying his head down on the table. “I’ve got it.” Davy said snapping his finger. “What?” Micky asked looking up. “Remember a year ago we started that bank account for emergencies…” Davy began to say. “Oh yea. We have some money stashed away there. We can go and take some money out this is an emergency.” Micky said finishing what Davy was saying. “Micky do you want to go for the Money?” Davy asked lifting himself on to the counter next to Mary. “Yes I will go. Angela you want to come?” Micky asked standing up to go get dressed. “Yes I will come. Mary and Davy can go do whatever.” Angela said going to change as well. “Davy what was that surprise you where talking about earlier?” Mary asked she could not imagine what he had in store for her. “Well Mary after Micky and I carefully planned this out I got things set. Here is what I want you to do. Go put on a nice outfit and your good boots. I will show you what it is.” Davy said pushing her along. “Do you mean a dress?” Mary asked. “No just a nice pair of pants will do.” Davy said giving her a look. “Oh good I hate dresses.” Mary mumbled going back to their room. Mary got dressed quickly and brushed out her long shiny auburn hair. “There perfect.” Mary said inspecting herself in a mirror. “Mary you ready?” Davy asked cracking open the door. “Yes.” Mary said. “Lets go.” Davy said taking her hand and leading her outside. “You know how we met, We did not really fall in love the normal way. We have never been on a real date well today I am taking you out for one.” Davy said opening the car door to let her in. “Oh really. But Davy I thought we did not have any money.” Mary said surprised. “Oh we do but I just wanted to pull that to get you going it took a while for me and Micky to get this set up perfect.” Davy said proud of himself. “Oh you did all this thinking and planning just for me?” Mary asked flattered. “Yes all for you. I thought that it would be nice for you if we went out on an actual date. Have you ever been on a date before?” Davy asked getting excited. “No my Dad would not let me date till I was sixteen and no boy ever asked me out they don’t exactly fall all over me if you know what I mean.” Mary said as Davy pulled out of the driveway. “What are they crazy. Not one boy?” Davy asked surprised. “Not one.” Mary said. “You are the most pretty girl I have ever seen in my life how can some one not fall all over you?” Davy asked pulling over for a second. “What are you doing?” Mary asked as Davy did so. “Before I forget I wanted to give you something.” Davy pulled out a single rose and handed it to her. Then Davy gave her a kiss. “Oh its beautiful.” Mary said holding the long stemmed flower in one hand. “It was the nicest one they had.” Davy stated proudly. “I love it. I love you to.” Mary said giving him a kiss then Davy pulled back out into traffic. “Well don’t give me all the credit. This was Mikes idea in the first place. I wanted to make it up to you because we did not spend Wednesdays together.” Davy said quietly. “Where are we going?” Mary asked as they drove out of the city. “I thought a drive in the country would be nice after all you have not been in a big city before really.” Davy said glancing at his watch. “Well actually Davy I was born in Augusta and I lived there for three years four after that I spent most of my time there, but I do like the country as well.” Mary said looking out the window. “Oh. Well you have to tell me these things.” Davy said shrugging. “Sorry.” Mary said. Davy pulled over at a clearing. “What are we doing?” Mary asked as they slowed down. “Well instead of going out to eat I thought going on a picnic would be fun it is such a nice day today.” Davy said leaning back and pulling a basket out of the back of the car. “Oh that will be nice.” Mary said getting out of the car. “Pick a spot.” Davy said looking around. “Oh yes stick me with the decisions. Um… under that tree I guess.” Mary said shrugging. “That’s a good spot. And you wont get a sunburn.” Davy said joking around. “Ha ha. Just because I don’t turn out golden brown after turning over once like a fish in a pan does not mean you can make fun of me.” Mary said helping him spread out the blanket. “Sorry I can’t help it if I do tan. I will try harder to turn red like a tomato next time.” Davy said sitting down. “What did you pack?” Mary asked looking at the basket. “An old English favorite peanut butter and jelly.” Davy said digging through the basket. “Oh.” Mary said smiling as Davy passed her a sandwich.
“I made them myself.” Davy said proud of himself. “Oh that means they are special then.” Mary said giving Davy a kiss. “Yes they are.” Davy said pulling back on Mary so she was leaning up against him. “Your cute.” Mary said laughing. “I know.” Davy said putting his arms around her. Mary felt safe and warm with him. “You know?” Mary asked laughing. “Yes I have been in love with myself for years. I am jealous of you for have me all to yourself I want me all to myself.” Davy said grinning. “You are in love with yourself. Don’t press your luck.” Mary said. “Mary you have got some peanut butter on your face.” Davy said. “Oh where?” Mary asked wiping her face. “You missed it let me get it.” Davy said and kissed her softly on the lips. Mary wrapped her arms around him. “Did you get it?” Mary asked when Davy finally stopped. “No let me try again.” Davy said and kissed her again but this time longer. “Micky I still have that bad feeling.” Angela said as they walked through the grocery store. “Well what's bad that is going to happen then?” Micky asked. “I don’t know but I know it is really bad it is not about us I think it is Mary.” Angela said uneasily. “Well if we don’t know what is wrong we can not do a thing about it.” Micky said shrugging. “I know but what can it be. Davy and her are fine. Could her dad be coming after her Davy might get arrested if he does.” Angela said scratching her head. “I don’t think so I have not seen her picture posted anywhere yet.” Micky said. “Your right. Well we will know soon I know that anyway.” Angela said shrugging. “Davy it is starting to get dark.” Mary said as the sunset began to fade away. “Well lets go I know a place we can go if you want to go dancing.” Davy said standing up and helping Mary up. “Sure that sounds like fun. I have not been dancing for a long time not since the last school dance I went to. A long time ago. I started to get paranoid no boys ever danced with me unless they where desperate and only half my height.” Mary said holding Davy’s hand. “Hey what's wrong with being short?” Davy asked. “Nothing I mean I love short guys especially you. These guys where half my age is what I meant.” Mary said. “Oh.” Davy said putting the basket in the back of the car and opening Mary’s door to let her in. “Davy thanks for taking me out. I really do appreciate it if you had wanted we could have stayed home and I would have liked it but this was a pleasant surprise.” Mary said as Davy started the car. “I had fun and we are still not done don’t thank me yet.” Davy said grinning. “Oh you.” Mary said laughing. “You never stop thinking about it do you?” Mary said rolling her eyes. “Never.” Davy said getting ideas. “Well tonight I am getting ideas to so you know we will. We do almost every night anyway.” Mary said shrugging. “Yes but it is always so special. I have never felt like this before you know.” Davy said turning on the road into town. “I know neither have I. But don’t we always say that because when you fall in love it always feels different because it is with different people for different reasons.” Mary said looking up to see the first star. “I know.” Davy said. “Look the first star I have to make a wish.” Mary said pointing. “Oh yea. I will to.” Davy said glancing up for a minuet. “There.” Mary said opening her eyes up. “What did you wish for?” Davy asked. “If I tell you it wont come true.” Mary said. “Oh yea.” Davy said. “Been a while since you made a wish?” Mary asked laughing. “Yes years.” Davy said sighing. “Why?” Mary asked. “I don’t know I guess I didn’t believe anything good would ever happen to me.” Davy said staring off into space. “You where wrong though. Right?” Mary looked at him concerned. “Yes I was wrong because I met you didn’t I. Somehow this all feels like a dream like I should be waking up.” Davy said sighing. “Davy do you want to go home?” Mary asked yawning. “I think so.” Davy said slowing down at a stop light. “Then lets go I am ready to go home anyway.” Mary said as they sped up again. “Okay.” Davy said turning off onto the road to get home. “Davy if this is a dream I hope I never wake up. I am hoping it will turn into a coma.” Mary said leaning her head against the door. “Me to.” Davy said smiling. “Davy promise me no matter what happens you will never forget me.” Mary said. “I promise. But why are you sick?” Davy asked concerned. “No I just want you to promise me that I am not going to be forgotten if I die before you.” Mary said looking up at the stars again. “Mary you are so young you have many years to worry about it.” Davy said parking the car and turning the engine off. “I know but if I think that I will never be forgotten I will not be afraid to die when the time does come.” Mary said opening the door. “Right.” Davy said getting out of his side and running to open the door. “Mary you have been acting strange lately what is bothering you?” Davy asked closing the door behind her. “I don’t know I just feel a little strange. I guess I am just a little home sick.” Mary said. “Do you want to go home?” Davy asked hanging up his jacket. “No I don’t I want to stay with you and besides if I did I would never be able to come back and you could be arrested they would make me say where you are. I wouldn't though.” Mary said shaking her head her hair bounced gracefully from side to side. “Oh. If you ever do I will let you go.” Davy said sitting down on the couch. “I know you told me that already.” Mary said smiling. “Mary come sit next to me and give us a kiss.” Davy said lifting his eyebrows a little bit. “Alright.” Mary said sitting down next to him and kissing him softly on the cheek. “Oh Mary I luv ya.” Davy said kissing her back and holding her close. “I love you to.” Mary said putting her arms around him. “Mary do you know what day you where born on?” Davy asked humming a formiloure son to himself. “Saturday.” Mary said recognizing the song. “I knew it you just had that fun spirit about you.” Davy said his eyes widened. “I wondered if you would ask about that.” Mary said giggling. “I just had to find out.” Davy said grinning. “I know. I figured you would.” Mary said rolling her eyes as Davy kissed her on the cheek. “You sweetheart.” Mary said pushing her hair back. “No you are.” Davy said running his fingers through her hair. “Davy what time is it?” Mary asked yawning. “Nine-thirty.” Davy said glancing at his watch. “Oh. I think I should go to bed. If your planning on getting anything you better come with me.” Mary said standing up and walking into her room. Davy ran after her like a stray puppy.

A Poem Part 4 By Mary Jones
Sunday morning Mary woke up before anyone else and quietly got dressed and went out. “Micky is Mary up?” Davy asked looking around the house. “I did not see her she must still be sleeping.” Micky said shrugging. “No she isn’t I just came from there.” Davy said perplexed. “Is she with Angela?” Micky asked. “No Angela has not seen her either.” Davy said shaking his head. Mary walked through the door with dark circles under her eyes. “Mary where have you been? I was worried about you.” Davy said running up to her and hugging her. “I went out for a walk I could not sleep.” Mary said smiling. “Oh”. Davy said letting go of her. “Don’t worry about me. I can take care of myself.” Mary said reassuringly. “I know but you never said where you where going.” Davy said stretching. “I just went for a little walk around the neighborhood.” Mary said shrugging. “How is the weather?” Micky asked glancing out the window. “It is nice out. A little bit humid though.” Mary said pulling out a bottle of aspirin and struggling to open the bottle. “Mary do you want some help?” Davy asked taking the bottle from her hand and lining up the arrows. “Thanks.” Mary said retrieving two aspiring from the bottle and setting it down on the counter. Davy closed the bottle and set it back in the cupboard. “Mary do you feel okay?” Davy asked putting his hand up to her forehead to check her temperature. “I have a little head ache.” Mary said and swallowed the pills. “Mary you’re burning up.” Davy said with a concerned look on his face. “No Davy I’m fine.” Mary said shaking her head. “Mary I don’t want to hear it you have a fever and you are going to go lay down I don’t want it to get worse.” Davy said firmly. “But Davy I am fine.” Mary said whining. “Micky do we have a thermometer?” Davy said looking through the cupboards. “Davy oh don’t. I don’t want you to make a fuss…” Mary shook her head as she sat at the table. “No you are burning up and I want to help.” Davy said retrieving the thermometer. “Well if you want to play nurse I guess you can. What ever makes you happy.” Mary said shrugging. “I said I would take care of you and now I am going to.” Davy said sticking the thermometer in her mouth. “Ooh.” Mar groaned and held the bridge of her nose between her thumb and forefinger. “Mary are you okay?” Davy asked spinning around. “Oh I’m okay I just feel a little dizzy.” Mary said trying to get up. Davy ran and caught her just before she reached the floor. “Mary you can’t even stand up.” Davy said holding her in his arms. “I felt fine a few hours ago.” Mary said shaking her head. “I am going to put you to bed and I am calling a doctor.” Davy said carrying her out of the room. “Davy can I help?” Micky asked following him out. “Yes you can call the doctor while I get Mary to bed.” Davy said turning his head but still walking. “What's wrong with Mary?” Angela asked walking out of her room. “She is sick.” Davy yelled out of their room while he helped her change. “Oh have you checked her temperature?” Angela asked standing at the doorway. “I started to but she tried to stand up and dropped it. Can you go get it?” Davy pulled the covers for Mary. “Yes I will go get it.” Angela said running out to the kitchen. “Thanks guys”. Davy said closing the door to their room. “Its no problem. We want to help after all Mary is our friend to.” Micky said as Angela handed Davy the thermometer. “The doctor is on his way over.” Micky said running to go get dressed. “Oh I should get dressed to.” Davy said running back into his room. “Davy what's happening?” Mary asked groggily. “Micky called the doctor he is on his way.” Davy said pulling on a pair of jeans. There was a knock at the door. “I will get it.” Angela called. She was already dressed. “Hi I got a call about a sick girl.” A tall man stood at the door. “Oh yes she is this way”. Angela said opening the door and gesturing for the man to come in. “I am Doctor Bann. You are her sister?” The man asked looking at Angela. “Oh no I am her roommate.” Angela said laughing nervously. “Oh the doctors here. She is in here.” Davy said running out of his room. “Yes. I am Doctor Bann. You are?” The Doctor sat down on the bed next to Mary. “My name is Mary.” She said groggily. “I see you took her temperature.” The doctor said pulling the thermometer out of her mouth. “Yes it was the first thing I did.” Davy said. “Good. Has she taken any pain relievers in the last four hours?” “Um… Yes she took two aspirin.” Davy said nodding. “When?” “About twenty minuets ago”. Davy said scratching his head. “I see. The aspiring will take down her temperature but I would recommend getting a over the counter fever medicine.” The doctor said leading Davy into the hall and closing the door. “She has a severe case of the flue this will not last like this for more than three days, but she could be mildly sick for a week or more.” “A week!” Davy said concerned. “Yes. She will be fine. Nevertheless, she needs a lot of rest, I do not want her getting up, and walking around until her temperature is back to normal. Call me if she gets worse.” The doctor said. “Yes doctor I will be sure of that. How much do I owe you?” Davy asked pulling out his wallet. “Oh this is about thirty dollars.” “Thirty Dollars!” Davy yelled his eyes where wide. “Well since you did not need a prescription, Twenty nine ninety nine.” “Oh yes that is much better.” Davy said pulling the dollars out of his wallet and getting the penny back from the doctor. Then after the doctor had left he shut the door. “It’s robbery I tell you!” Davy exclaimed in disgust. “Look at the bright side Davy. You got change.” Micky said shrugging. “Yes and Mary is going to be okay.” Angela added looking for some soup to make for Mary. “Angela listen I have to work but I don’t want to stick you with Mary.” Davy said concerned. “Listen Davy you have to work so we can afford to get Mary healthy again.” Angela said sighing. “Thanks Angela Mary and I appreciate what you are doing.” Davy said going to check on Mary. “I know Davy we are all living together and she is my best friend.” Angela said. “Thanks Angela you’re a good friend. You won’t torture her will you?” Davy asked. “Oh ruin all my fun.” Angela said grinning. “Maybe I should call in for just until Mary’s temperature gets stable.” Davy said with his eyes wide. “No Davy I am sure she will be fine by tomorrow.” Angela said laughing. “I guess we can wait and see.” Davy said shrugging. “Davy?” A faint voice called out of the bedroom. “Mary is calling I must go.” Davy said and slipped away. “What a jackass”. Angela said looking for a can opener. “What Mary?” Davy asked walking into the bedroom. “Davy I have something I need to tell you.” Mary said as Davy sat down next to her on the bed. “What is it luv?” Davy asked holding her hands. They where cold, and her face was pale. “I um… I did not go for a walk like I said I did.” Mary began. “What? Where did you go then?” Davy asked his mouth was a thin line. “I went to a doctor.” Mary said her voice was shaky. “For what?” Davy asked letting go of her hands for a moment. “I went to get some tests done. The results should be in, in a few days.” Mary said reassuringly. “Tests for what?” Davy asked suspiciously. “A few days ago when I was taking a shower I found a lump in my um…” Mary stuttered. “Oh. You think it is?” Davy was quiet and his eyes sparkled from the tears he was trying to hold back. “I don’t know. I hope not. It does not run in my family so it is less likely than it may be for others.” Mary said rubbing her eyes. “What if it is?” Davy asked grabbing hold of her hands again. “I don’t know. We can’t afford the treatment on what we make and I can not go back to my father.” Mary said staring at the wall. “I would find a way. What would they do to get it out?” Davy asked. “Well they would remover all or part of my um…” Mary shuddered Davy pulled the blankets over her. “Oh. If you are worried that I would not love you because of that, you don’t have to worry. I mean we don’t even know if it’s a false alarm of not.” Davy said laughing nervously. “Well I know that but wouldn't you miss it a little?” Mary asked her eyebrows raised. “A little”. Davy said grinning. “I thought so.” Mary said and threw a pillow at him. “How’s your temperature?” Davy asked putting his hand up to her forehead. “Better I think.” Mary said smiling. “Yes you seem to have cooled down.” Davy said nodding. “Should we tell Micky and Angela?” Mary asked concerned. “I don’t know. I think we should wait until the results come in.” Davy said scratching his head. “Yes we don’t want to get them upset over nothing. I just had to tell you though because after all you are my boyfriend to say the least.” Mary said quietly. “Yes if I had a problem I would tell you.” Davy said confidently. “Davy I know you proved that on the beach that day when we had just started to fall in love. Remember?” Mary laughed. “Oh yes. That water was cold.” Davy said recalling. “You where just a little sensitive that is all.” Mary said teasing him. “Lets never talk about that day again.” Davy said grinning. “Davy are you going to stay on the couch tonight? I don’t want you to get sick.” Mary asked glancing at the clock. “Yes I think that is a good idea. If I get sick it will be bad.” Davy said nodding. “I will go get some sheets to lay out then.” Davy said standing up. “Davy I love you.” Mary said as he left the room. “I know. I love you to.” Davy said and shut the door. The moment Davy shut the door tears streamed down Mary’s pale face. “Why did this have to happen just as things where starting to go my way?” Mary asked herself then buried her face in her pillow. “Davy you okay? You look a little down.” Micky said sitting on the counter. “Oh I am just thinking about Mary she is not feeling her best and I wish I could make her better right now.” Davy said spreading sheets across the couch. “Oh Davy you can’t fix everything. You are trying your best to make her feel better and I am sure it helps if not on the outside then on the inside.” Angela said sighing. “What?” Micky asked confused. “Yea Angela your right”. Davy said in a much more cheerful mood. “I am glad I helped you I have no idea what I just said.” Angela said Micky rolled his eyes and Davy pretended not to hear her. “So is Mary feeling better?” Micky asked. “Yes a little bit. Her fever has gone down.” Davy said sitting down on the couch. “See what did I tell you.” Angela said. “Yea I guess you where right.” Davy said. “No what did I tell you I did not understand it. I was trying to sound like Mary she is the one who likes to go deep.” Angela said shrugging and settling on the floor. “Davy you going to bed?” Micky asked yawning. “Yes in a while I have to check in on Mary first and I have to change.” Davy said glancing at his watch. Mary lay in bed still crying when she heard the door creak open. Mary coughed trying to choke back her tears. “Mary are you okay you’re a mess you have been crying.” Davy said running up beside her. “Oh I am okay I am just overtired today has been a long day.” Mary said wiping her face. “Oh your worried about the tests. Don’t worry it may not be anything to worry about.” Davy said hugging her. “I hope so I don’t want to ever leave you.” Mary said sniffling. “I don’t ever want to loose you.” Davy said. “Mary go to sleep you will feel better in the morning. I will try not to wake you when I go to work.” Davy said as he changed. “If you do I will be okay I love to see you first thing in the morning.” Mary said pulling the covers up around her. “Yes oh and Mary just a few things. Don’t walk around a lot. Only get up if you have to. And don’t drink any coffee trust me it wont do you any good if you are sick.” Davy said kissing her on the forehead. Mary wished she could kiss his lips but in her sickly state, she would only make him feel bad to. “Okay I will remember that. Goodnight Davy I love you.” Mary said closing her eyes. “Goodnight luv”. Davy said and closed the door. Ring! Ring! The telephone rang it was Wednesday. “Hello”. Mary answered the telephone after many days in bed she was free to walk. “Is Mary Bottom there?” a strange voice asked. “Yes. Speaking.” Mary said she knew who it was. “This is the hospital calling with your results.” The voice said slowly and clearly. “Oh yes. Is it bad?” Mary asked she was frowning. “Well the bad news is that you do have cancer…” There was a pause in the voice. Mary sank to the floor she felt like she was going to cry. “But it is curable. You caught it in an early stage and it will be easy to treat.” The voice said reassuringly. “Oh. Thank you.” Mary said and hung up the phone. Mary began to breath heavely she was trying not to cry. Mary struggled to get up she was still weak from her sickness. Mary crawled into the living room and scrunched up in a corner. She was home alone and had no one to talk to. She was scared. Mary burst into tears and cried herself to sleep in that corner. “Mary luv I’m home.” Davy called walking through the door. “Mary?” Davy asked hanging up his jacket he walked out into the living room to find her in the corner asleep. Davy could tell by the circle under her eyes she had been crying. Davy’s body went cold and he felt a chill up his spine. “Mary wake up.” Davy gently shook her. “Oh Davy your home.” Mary hugged him and snifled. “Yes I’m here what is the matter?” Davy asked. “The hospital called.” Mary said looking Davy in the eyes. Davy mouth opened he was about to speak. “They said it is cancer but it is in the early stages so there is a good chance they can cure it.” Mary said holding his hand. “Oh. We have to get it taken care of then.” Davy said trying not to cry he did not want to give up hope. “But Davy where will we get the money?” Mary asked shrinking back into her corner. “We will have to barrow some of it. Micky and I have that account for emergancys.” Davy said he was afraid of loosing Mary. “But I don’t know how much it will cost I have to go in tomorrow to talk to a doctor.” Mary said he voice was shaking. “I am going with you I don’t want to leave you alone in a time like this.” Davy said standing up. “Thanks Davy I was hoping you would come along. I need support.” Mary said as he helped her up. Micky walked through the door. “Mary Davy what is wrong?” Micky asked looking at Mary crying and Davy trying desperately to comfort her. “Wait for Angela to get home and then we will tell you.” Mary said trying to stop crying. “Yes Angela should be here.” “Why? What happened?” Angela stumbled into the house carrying some bags from the store. “I don’t know Mary and Davy are really upset about something.” Micky said shrugging. “Angela Micky I think you should sit down.” Mary said glancing at the couch. Angela took Micky’s hand and they both sat down. Davy leaned on the doorway and covered his face with one hand trying to hide the fact that he was crying. “Well Angela a few days ago I went out early in the morning and went to the doctors to have some tests done…” Mary began. “Mary your not pregnant?” Angela asked gripping the edge of the couch. “No. This is worse. I have breast cancer.” Mary said. Davy hit his head on the doorway and walked off slamming the door to the bedroom. “I just got the call today. The doctors said I caught it early enough there is a good chance it can be cured.” Mary said Angela had buried her face in Micky’s shoulder. Micky hugged her tightly. “Why didn’t you tell us about the tests?” Micky asked he felt like he had just been shot in the heart. “We did not know if it was a false alarm. We did not want to get you upset over nothing.” Mary said leaning on the wall. “Wait how much will it cost to cure it?” Angela asked wiping the tears from here eyes. “I don’t know Davy and I are going to the doctor tomorrow to find out what will be done.” Mary said. “But how did you get it?” Angela asked in disbelief. “I don’t know it is not hereditary as far as I know my mom never had it and I don’t know about her mom. She was adopted.” Mary said shrugging. “It does not matter how I got it I have it now.” Mary said “Oh. Mary we are with you all the way with this.” Micky said he was as afraid as Mary was. “Thanks Micky. I have to go see if Davy is okay. He looks a bit upset.” Mary said and walked into their bedroom. “Davy are you okay?” Mary asked opening the door to their room slowly. “No.” Davy said covering his face with his hands. “Davy I swear I will never go away I am going to live no matter what it takes.” Mary said holding him in her arms. “I don’t want to loose you.” Davy said quietly. “You wont. We are going to be okay. I need you to be strong. I just need you to do that for me. Don’t ever give up hope.” Mary said trying to hold back her tears. “Mary when was the last time I told you I love you?” Davy asked lifting his head. “This morning before you left. And after you got home.” Mary said forcing herself to smile. “Well it’s been a while then. Mary I love you.” Davy said holding her hand. “I love you to. More than anything in the world.” Mary said sincerely. “Mary Davy are you guys going to live? Oh bad choice of words. Sorry.” Micky yelled he was getting concerned. “Yes we will be okay.” Mary yelled back but she meant for Davy to hear it. “Mary will we though?” Davy asked still sitting on the edge of the bed. “Yes we will.” Mary said rubbing Davy’s back trying to make him relax. “Trust me I’m not going anywhere.” Mary said confidently. “Promise?” Davy asked in a low voice. “I promise.” Mary said and stood up. “Davy come on lets go back out there Micky and Angela where not doing to well when I left them.” Mary said tugging on his hand. “No Mary I think I want to stay here for a while.” “Davy you’re not doing yourself any good by shutting yourself off from the outside world.” Mary said and got Davy to stand up and come out into the living room. “Davy how ya feeling?” Micky asked sitting on the floor. “Not very good.” Davy said he was still in shock. “Mary seems to be handling this well.” Angela said watching Mary go about her regular routine. “I don’t know why she is the one who should be scared the most.” Davy said watching her dance and sing with her Walkman playing. “Look Davy just because I have cancer does not mean I am going to let it get in the way of my life. I am alive and I intend to stay that way. You can join the living to if you would like.” Mary said stopping her music. “I guess your right. What are you listening to?” Davy asked eyeing her Walkman. “Oh just my favorite singer.” Mary said playfully. “Oh who?” Davy asked leading her on. “Oh you would not have heard of him. His name is Davy Jones.” Mary said gracefully laying herself across Davy’s lap. “Your cute. Don’t press your luck.” Davy said giving her a kiss. “I know I’m cute.” Mary said looking up at Davy and tapping his nose lightly. “Do you though?” Davy asked grinning. “Oh yes I have been sending myself fan mail for years.” Mary said giggling. “Well where is my fan mail then?” Davy asked. “I don’t know when was the last time you wrote a letter?” Mary asked grinning. “Funny.” Davy said pushing Mary off his lap. “Be nice.” Mary said sticking her tongue out at him. “No. You can’t make me.” Davy said getting down on the floor and wrestling with Mary. “Davy save it for the bedroom.” Angela said rolling her eyes. “Not a bad idea.” Davy said grinning. “Oh god Davy! You never give up do you?” Mary said throwing a pillow at Davy. “Never.” Davy said throwing the pillow back. “Yea right.” Mary said walking into the kitchen to get a drink. Davy snuck up behind her and grabbed her around the waist. “Why do you have to be so cute?” Davy asked tickling Mary. “You like me that way.” Mary said trying to push him away. “Oh. Is that it.” Davy said letting go of her. Mary pushed him playfully. “No.” Mary said running away. “Oh you. You’re just playing hard to get.” Davy said chasing after her. “What's left for you to get?” Mary asked giving him an evil grin. “I can think of one thing.” Davy said. “What?” Mary asked. “Not telling.” Davy said sticking his tongue out at her. “You don’t know.” Mary said doubtfully. “Yes I do. Here I will whisper it to Micky.” Davy said and ran over to Micky. “Oh yea that is true.” Micky said nodding after Davy told him. “Micky tell me what it is.” Mary said crossing her arms and leaning on the wall. “Davy will kill me if I do. But I can give you a hint.” Micky said grinning at Davy. “Okay give it to me.” Mary said shrugging. “Sunday’s child.” Micky said leaning back and putting his arm around Angela who was in lala land. “What?” Angela asked rejoining the real world. “Nothing.” Davy said rolling his eyes. “Marriage Davy?” Mary asked looking at him strangely. “Yes. We are not married yet.” Davy said shrugging. “Is this a proposal?” Mary asked sitting on the floor. “Maybe.” Davy said sitting next to her and putting his arm around her. “Oh you’re going to be that way then.” Mary said sarcastically. “Yes. Oh. What time is it?” Davy asked. “Three.” Micky said looking at his watch. “We have got to go. Mary has to see the doctor.” Davy said pushing Mary to the door. “I can walk on my own.” Mary said as he rushed her along. “I know I am just trying to speed you up.” Davy said closing the door behind them. “We have twenty minuets you know.” Mary said getting in the passenger side of the car. “I know that but you have to get there early otherwise you have to wait a really long time.” Davy said starting the car and pulling out. “Oh yes. Ladies and gentlemen the spokesmen of all hospitals.” Mary said clapping. “Oh shut up. You know I’m right.” Davy said rolling his eyes. “Yes I know. Know it all.” Mary mumbled under her breath. “I heard that.” Davy said Mary laughed. “Good.” Mary said grinning. “Funny.” Davy said as he parked the car. “I am I know.” Mary said getting out. Davy and Mary walked into the main entrée of the hospital. “Excuse me we have an appointment for Mary Bottom.” Davy said to the nurse at the desk. The nurse typed something into her computer. “Yes have a seat and we will be right with you.” The nurse said smiling. “Thank you.” Davy said and he took Mary’s hand as they walked into the waiting area. “Davy thanks for coming I don’t want to be alone.” Mary said holding his hand tightly. Mary and Davy waited for about five minuets. “Mary Bottom please come to the desk.” The nurse called. “Yes?” Mary walked up to the desk. “I have some paper work for you.” The nurse said handing Mary a heavy stack of papers. “Some? I have paper work for everyone in the hospital.” Mary said taking the papers back to where she was sitting. “What’s all that?” Davy asked starring at the large mound of papers. “Paper work. I will die before I get it done.” Mary said starting on the first page. “You’re tellin’ me.” Davy mumbled taking a few pages to fill out. “Have you ever had a severe head injury?” Davy asked. “Define severe. No.” Mary said checking off boxes on her paper. “Davy if two busses leave New York one at three going sixty miles per hour. One leaving at three thirty going at sixty five which one gets there first?” Mary asked looking at the question. “What?” Davy asked taking the paper for a second. “That’s on there?” Davy did not believe it. “Yes I guess they don’t want to treat stupid people.” Mary said shrugging. “They get there at the same time.” Davy guessed. “Good enough.” Mary said writing it down. Ten minuets later they where done. “Here you go.” Mary said setting the papers down on the desk. “Thank you.” The nurse said. “Oh no problem. Why did I have to know when Columbus discovered America?” Mary asked. “Its just the system.” The nurse said shrugging. “Oh.” Mary said and sat back down. “Mary Bottom.” A doctor called looking at the clipboard. “Yes?” Mary asked looking up. “Come this way.” The doctor said. Mary took Davy’s hand and followed the doctor. Mary was led to a small room with white walls. “This place gives me the creeps.” Mary said to Davy after the doctor had left the room. The doctor came back in the room. “Mary you have breast cancer. Correct?” The doctor asked skimming the chart. “Right.” Mary nodded and gripped onto Davy’s hand. “Let me see. It can be easily treated. We have a few procedures we can use.” The doctor said setting the clipboard on the counter. “We will not have to remove the whole breast. If that is anything that may have worried you.” The doctor said giving Davy a look. “Oh well that is a good thing.” Davy said annoyed. “You are her husband?” The doctor asked. “No we are not married. We live together though.” Davy said flatly. “Oh well will you be covering her treatment expenses? We have some list of places you can go to for financial assistance.” The doctor said eyeing Davy. “Thank you. I am paying for it with some help from my roommates.” Davy said glaring at the doctor. “Davy quiet.” Mary said elbowing him. “He started it.” Davy whispered. “I don’t care he is the doctor we need his help.” Mary said. “Sorry.” Davy said. “Well Mary this will be expensive. If things go well it should be around eight thousand dollars.” The doctor said. “Oh. Well that is not to bad. I can manage to get that.” Mary said. “Yes but if there are any complications it may cost more.” The doctor said. “Oh. Complications?” Mary looked scared. “Yes there are some risks with this but any and all treatments have some risks.” The doctor said flipping through her chart again. “Well my life is worth the risk. Is there a chance that the cancer could come back?” Mary asked biting her lip. “There is a chance but the large percentage of survivors never have it again.” The doctor said reassuringly. “Oh.” Mary said. “Well do you have any more questions?” The doctor asked looking at his watch. “When can I start treatment?” Mary asked looking at Davy whose face was pale. “I would say we can have it all worked out by next month.” The doctor said. “Oh good. Doctor thank you for your time.” Mary said shaking his hand. “Your welcome. And you sir thank you for coming to.” The doctor said and flashed Davy a dirty look. “Yes always a pleasure.” Davy said shaking his hand. “Davy you could be a little nicer. My life is in that mans hands.” Mary said getting in the car. “I know but he is just starting trouble.” Davy said slamming his door closed. “Gees Davy leave the door on.” Mary said her eyes where wide. “Sorry.” Davy said and started the car. Mary sat in the back of the car Davy held her hand. “Well this is it Mary. You ready?” Micky said pulling into the hospital’s parking lot. “As ready as I will ever be considering I am more scared than I have ever been in my life.” Mary said she was shaking with fear. “Davy you okay?” Angela asked turning around. “No.” Davy said shaking his head. “I won’t be okay until this is over and I know she is okay.” Davy said giving Mary a kiss. “Davy I am going to be fine I know it.” Mary said forcing a smile onto her face. “No she wont.” Angela thought to herself. “Angela I will to.” Mary said slapping Angela onto arm. “How do you do that?” Angela asked in amazement. “I know you too well. You are just worried.” Mary said getting out of the car. Mary walked into the hospital with Davy, Micky, and Angela. “I have an appointment. My name is Mary Bottom.” Mary said to the nurse at the desk. “Yes I will let the doctor know you are here.” The nurse said picking up the phone. “Thanks.” Mary said and she walked back to where her friends stood. “Relax I will be okay.” Mary said seeing the looks on their faces. “We know Mary. But we still worry about you.” Micky said. “You guys can go if you want I will be gone for a long time before you can see me.” Mary said. “No Mary I am going to stay.” Davy said Micky nodded. “I am staying to.” Angela said holding onto Micky’s arm. “Thanks Guys. I don’t know what I would do without you.” Mary said and gave Davy a hug. “Mary we are ready for you.” The doctor said. “One sec.” Mary said and turned back to her friends. “Bye guys see you in a few hours.” Mary said and Gave Davy a hug and kiss. “Mary can I give you a hug for good luck?” Micky asked. “Sure. Micky you’re a good friend.” Mary said giving him a hug. After Mary had hugged them she sat down in the wheelchair they had for her. “Good luck Mary.” Angela called after her. “Mary I love you.” Davy said as he saw her disappear around the corner. “Now what?” Micky asked sitting down. “Now we wait.” Angela said picking up a magazine. “Damn.” Davy said slouching in his chair. “Davy I brought some cards want to play something?” Micky asked pulling the cards out. “Sure I have to try to get my mind off of Mary.” Davy said. “Go fish?” Micky asked shuffling the cards. “Yes.” Davy said picking up the cards Micky had deled him. “Davy I love you.” A voice called. Davy looked up to see a figure standing in an empty hall. “Mary?” Davy asked. The figure was wearing a white dress. It looked a little like a wedding dress. “Yes Davy it’s me.” The voice seemed distant. “Your okay.” Davy said. “Yes. Davy come to me.” Mary waved for him to come down the hall to where she stood. Davy began to walk. Davy walked for a long time but he did not seem to get any closer to Mary. “Davy? Davy wake up.” Micky shook Davy awake. “What? Where is Mary?” Davy asked shaking his head. “She is sleeping. What is up with you? You where crying like a baby.” Micky said laughing. “I had a bad dream.” Davy said looking around the empty waiting room. “How long have we been here?” Davy asked it was dark outside. “Well it is one in the morning. A long time.” Micky said shrugging. “What has the doctor said about Mary?” Davy asked he was groggy. “Not much. As far as they know she is okay it was successful. The lump was small and you can not tell they removed anything.” Micky said. “Oh good. So Mary still has most of her…” Davy began. “Yes Davy. For gods sake you do think about it all the time.” Micky said rolling his eyes. “No I was just wondering if we would need to get any restructuring or anything like that.” Davy said. “Yea right. You’re a randy scouse git.” Micky said rolling his eyes. “Am not! Well okay so I am sort of but I am not from Liverpool.” Davy said and went back to sleep in his chair. “Davy?” Mary asked when she woke. “No Mary you are in the hospital. You are a little tired from the medicine it will wear off soon.” “Owe. I am really hurting around the stitches. Do you have anything I can take for the pain.” Mary asked squinting in the light. “Yes I am getting a shot ready right now.” The nurse said pulling out a needle. “A shot.” Mary groaned. “There.” The nurse said pulling the needle out of Mary’s arm. “When can I see my friends? At least Davy.” Mary asked sitting up. “I can go get them now. They stayed in the waiting room over night.” The nurse said leaving the room. “Thanks.” Mary said as she left. “Mary your okay. Thank god.” Davy said giving her a hug. “Owe.” Mary said Davy quickly let go of he. “Oh sorry I forgot where your operation was. How are you feeling?” Davy asked giving her a kiss. “A little sore but good.” Mary said cheerfully. “Great. I was so worried.” Davy said sitting on the chair next to her bed. “Davy how long do I have to stay here?” Mary asked looking around her room. The walls where white and bear. “A few days. I know it is a bit creepy. They have to monitor you to make sure everything will be okay.” Davy said. “Where are Micky and Angela?” Mary asked. “They are coming they wanted to get you as card to put in your room.” Davy said. “Oh that’s nice of them.” Mary said smiling. “Hi Mary.” Micky and Angela entered her room. “Hi guys.” Mary said. “How are you doing?” Micky asked handing her the card. “Pretty good. I am a little bit sore from the stitches. But good.” Mary said taking the card and setting it on the table next to her. “You like the card?” Angela asked. “Yes its great.” Mary said trying to make it stand up her hands were shaking from the painkiller. “Here.” Davy said standing it up for her. “Thanks Davy.” Mary said. “Peter and Mike said they would stop by later.” Micky said. “Oh good I would like to see them.” Mary said. “Mary does that hurt?” Angela asked looking at the I.V. Needle in Mary’s right hand. “Oh no I did not know it was there actually.” Mary said giggling. “Duh big red truck.” Angela said rolling her eyes. “Hey I’m on drugs give me a break.” Mary said. “Hey.” Peter walked in the room. “Hi Pete.” Mary said. “I picked these for you.” Peter said handing Mary a handful of daisies. “Thank you Peter. That was sweet. Daisies are one of my favorites.” Mary said taking them and setting them down next to her card. “Where is Mike?” Mary asked. “Oh he is being slow I ran in.” Peter said. “I’m here.” Mike said walking in. “Hi Mike.” Mary said. “Hi Mary how are you doing?” Mike asked handing her a rose. “Good. Oh more flowers. Thanks.” Mary said. “Mary you know what. it is getting crowded Angela and I are going to go and eat anyway.” Micky said. “Okay bye.” Mary said as they left the room. “Yep see you later.” Angela said following Micky. “Davy what has the doctor said about me?” Mary asked. “You don’t know?” Davy asked. “No I have not been told yet.” Mary said shrugging. “Well you are okay. They got the cancer out successfully.” Davy said. “I wish I could tell you more but I don’t know that much.” Davy said shrugging. “Oh.” Mary said sighing. For a few minuets there was an awkward silence. “Well Peter and I have to get going.” Mike said. “So soon?” Mary asked. “Yes we have some other things to attend to.” Mike said. “Well bye then. Mike before you go can I have a hug I could use it.” Mary said. “Yep.” Mike said and gave her a little hug. Peter gave Mary a hug to then they left. “Well now its just us how are you feeling?” Mary asked seeing the bags under Davy’s eyes. “I am so tired I had a bad dream.” Davy said. “Poor baby.” Mary said kissing his forehead. “Mary I was afraid I would loose you. I never want that to happen.” Davy said he felt like he was going to cry. “I love you to. It is going to take more than cancer to drive me away from you. When I die I will come back to haunt you. I will never leave your side. Not for a second.” Mary vowed her jaw shook. “I will never leave you either.” Davy said kissing her on the cheek. “Davy remember that day you said something about marriage?” Mary asked. “Yes I do. As plain as day.” Davy said. “Where you proposing?” Mary asked. “Yes. Do I have an answer?” Davy asked. “Yes. But are you ready for such a commitment. We have to wait until we are both eighteen anyway.” Mary said. “I know but I want to take you for my wife and take care of you forever.” Davy said. “We already planned on getting married I think.” Mary said playing with Davy’s ring that she had worn since that day back when they had first started to fall in love. “I remember. It was that day you started to cry your eyes out. You thought we would never see each other again.” Davy said remembering that week. “I remember that week we where so silly. The way we acted. We never changed did we.” Mary said playing with the rose Mike had given her. “Never.” Davy said smiling. “I hope I wont be in the hospital to long.” Mary said. “I will ask how many days.” Davy said standing up. “Davy wait.” Mary said grabbing onto his hand. “What is it luv?” Davy asked. “Thanks. You have done more for me than I thought you would. You could have gone home last night you know.” Mary said. “I know but I didn’t because I love you to much I wanted to be there for you if you needed me.” Davy said and walked out of the room. “Excuse me miss, can you tell me how long Mary Bottom will be staying here before she can go home?” Davy asked the nurse at the desk. “Let me see.” The nurse said typing into her computer. “She needs to stay for two more days then she is free to go home.” The nurse said smiling. “Okay. Thank you.” Davy said and walked back to Mary’s room. “Davy?” Mary asked as the door opened. “Its me.” Davy said entering the room. “Hey.” Mary said. “You have to stay two more days then you can come home.” Davy said sitting back down next to her. “Okay I will be fine. You can go home tonight so you can take a shower and change and all that good stuff.” Mary said smiling her sweet smile that Davy only saw once before. “It’s strange you only have smiled like that once before. For me anyway.” Davy said running his fingers through her hair. “Sometimes I take you for granted. I just realized how much I need you to be with me.” Mary said holding his hand. “I know Mary I need you to.” Davy said smiling. “I can keep telling you how much I love you but you will never know.” Mary said her eyes were watering. “Mary why are you crying?” Davy asked. “I don’t deserve you your too good to be real.” Mary said. “No I’m not we all have flaws. Even me. I don’t like to admit it though.” Davy said grinning. “Oh you. Your silly.” Mary said giggling. “And I am drugged wicked.” Mary said lisping. “Looks like that pain killer has really kicked in now.” Davy said amused. “Sut uph dacy!” Mary mumbled. “I think you need some rest now.” Davy said standing up. “I will be back in a while. I am going to go home and shower.” Davy said closing the door. “Bye.” Mary managed to say without lisping. “Bye.” Davy said. Davy, Angela, and Micky went home. “Well thank god Mary is okay.” Angela said collapsing on the couch. “I know it.” Davy said. “Yea Davy was worried sick.” Micky added. “Micky do you think Mary and I could record a duet some day. Mary is a good singer.” Davy asked. “Yea that would be great. Mary writes songs to. You guys can write one together.” Micky said snapping his fingers. “Yea. But now I have to take a shower.” Davy said and left the room. “Your telling me.” Micky said holding his nose. “I heard that!” Davy yelled annoyed. “I know.” Micky said to himself more than to Davy. Two days later Davy took the car and went to get Mary. Mary was waiting in the main entrée for him. “Hey babe.” Mary said giving him a kiss. “Hello luv.” Davy said. “I already checked myself out. We can just go.” Mary said. “Oh good Micky and Angela really miss you.” Davy said giving Mary a kiss on the cheek. “I missed you guys to.” Mary said. “How are you as far as being sore?” Davy asked. “Not too bad. The doctor gave me a prescription for the pain.” Mary said pulling a piece of paper out of her pocket. “Yea we can pick that up on the way home.” Davy said taking the paper from her and looking it over. “Okay. That is fine.” Mary said nodding. “I am glad this is over.” Davy said sighing as they drove out of the hospital parking lot. “I know it.” Mary said leaning back in the car seat. “I will run in and get your prescription. You can stay in here.” Davy said stopping the car and opening the door. “Okay.” Mary said and Davy ran in the drug store. “hmmm.” Mary sighed and looked out her window. Life seemed so different. How would she pick up where she had left off? Mary leaned her head up against the cool window and closed her eyes. “Where do I go now?” Mary asked glancing up at the sky outside her window. “It seemed so easy yesterday but what can I do now?” Mary spoke quietly to herself she did not notice Davy getting back in until he closed the door. “Oh. You startled me.” Mary said looking at him. “Mary you okay?” Davy asked. “Oh I’m just tired. It has been a long week.” Mary said smiling. “You sure?” Davy asked doubtfully. “Yes I’m fine.” Mary said reassuringly. “Good. Because I want you to be happy more than anything.” Davy said pulling into the driveway. “Home at last.” Mary sighed with relief. “HI Mary.” Angela said when Mary walked in. “Hi Angela where is Micky?” Mary asked hanging up her lucky sweater. “He’s around somewhere.” Angela said flipping through channels on the TV. “Okay. I will remember that.” Mary said walking into her bedroom. “Thank god a real bed.” Mary said falling backwards and bouncing on the mattress. “I know what you mean I was in the hospital once.” Davy said leaning on the doorway. “Really?” Mary asked surprised. “Yes I went in to get my appendix out you see and I go into the hospital and she says okay shaving time…” Davy began. “Oh god Davy!” Mary said throwing a pillow at him. “Why do you always throw pillows at me?” Davy asked setting it down on the edge of the bed. “Because they are everywhere and they are easy to throw I’m a little weak in the arms. But I have really strong legs. Boy can I kick. Want me to demonstrate?” Mary asked sarcastically. “No I’m fine thank you.” Davy said backing up. “Chicken. It would only hurt for an hour.” Mary said grinning. “I am afraid to die.” Davy said leaving the room. “I’m kidding. Gees.” Mary called after him. “Oh Mary your back. I missed the sound of people yelling at each other from different rooms.” Micky said stopping in the doorway. “Nice to see you to.” Mary said sticking her tongue out. “How ya doing?” Micky asked leaning on the door. “Great I feel good. Nothing like a near death experience to cheer you up.” Mary said smiling. “That’s a pearl of wisdom.” Micky said nodding. “I know I’m so smart.” Mary said smugly. “Oh yes.” Micky said rolling his eyes. “Yep. So how are you today?” Mary asked trying to keep silence from filling the room. “Pretty good. When do you have your stitches out?” Micky was searching for something to say. “In two weeks. Want to discuss any of my other problems?” Mary asked sarcastically. “Angela she is being mean.” Micky called playfully. “Mary be nice.” Angela called. “No! You can’t make me!” Mary called and stopped. “Holy frogs legs! I sound like Davy!” Mary said her eyes where wide. “That’s scary.” Micky said laughing. “Your telling me.” Mary said. “Uh yea.” Micky said and left to go see Angela. “What's scary?” Davy asked walking back in the room. “Oh hello luv… Damn it!” Mary said slapping herself on the head. “Okay.” Davy said laying on the bed next to her. Angela and Micky walked by and stopped. “Mary and Davy sitting in a tree F-U-C-K-I…” “Shut up you two!” Davy said and kicked the door shut with his foot. “The good thing about having a small room is you don’t have to move an inch everything is in reach.” Mary said giggling. “Smart ass.” Davy mumbled. “What was that? Sorry I didn’t hear you?” Mary asked tickling Davy. “Oh the torture but I will never say.” Davy said heroically. “Yes I bet most would give in to this. You are my hero… my night in shining armor…” Mary clapped her hands together and stared at the ceiling swooning. “You know they had a pretty good idea there.” Davy said kissing Mary on the cheek. “You never will give up. Good thing I like sex.” Mary said kissing him back. “Great.” Davy said getting excited. “Davy I have a question for you. Why don’t you ever kiss me on the lips?” Mary asked. “I don’t know. I don’t think I ever adjusted to kissing girls on the lips.” Davy said shrugging. “Well then you need some practice.” Mary said and pulled his face towards hers. “I think that is the first time you have ever made a move on me.” Davy said with stars in his eyes. “Get used to it.” Mary said grinning. “Mary are your stitches going to bother you if you do?” Davy asked glancing down. “They shouldn’t. Just go easy on them.” Mary said. “I can do that.” Davy said nodding. “Well then why are we talking?” Mary asked kissing Davy again. “Got me.” Davy said and kissed her back. “Morning Mary.” Davy said when Mary woke up and wandered out into the kitchen. “Morning.” Mary said pouring herself a cup of coffee. “How you feeling?” Davy asked digging through the fridge. “Pretty good. Can you get my pills out?” Mary asked sitting down at the table. “Sure. Id be glad to.” Davy said opening the cupboard. “Thanks babe.” Mary said when he handed her two pills. “Yep.” Davy said and gave her a kiss. “Your sweet.” Mary said after swallowing the pills. “So are you.” Davy said. “You guys are in a good mood.” Angela said walking into the kitchen. “Yep. We had a good night.” Mary said stretching. “Oh is that what you call it. Was it an all-nighter Davy?” Angela asked sarcastically. “Funny. For your information it wasn’t. Close to it though.” Davy said pouring cereal into a bowl. “Sure that’s what they all say.” Angela said rolling her eyes. “Not all of them are telling the truth.” Davy said sitting at the table to eat. “Yea right and you are.” Angela rolled her eyes. “I am. Your just jealous that Micky can’t hold out like that.” Davy said. “Oh and how would you know?” Angela asked. “Micky told me. He said you where not very good either.” Davy said grinning. “Micky did you do that?” Angela asked Micky as he wandered out into the kitchen. “Do what? No. I’m innocent. I promise I will be good don’t kill me.” Micky said looking confused. “Ha. There.” Angela said triumphantly. “Oh yes he does not know what we are talking about.” Davy said rolling his eyes. “So that means he did not do it.” Angela said. “So you guys are not doing well in that section then.” Mary said grinning. “What? Hey wait a sec…” Angela said pushing Mary. Mary laughed and pushed her back. “Cat fight.” Davy said to himself grinning. Mary hissed at him and clawed at his arm. “Okay.” Davy said and walked out of the room. Mary and Angela burst out laughing. “Davy you are just sooo cool.” Mary said rolling her eyes. Davy walked back in the room and picked Mary up. Davy carried Mary over his shoulder. “Davy oh god put me down! Davy right now! Oh god!” Mary screamed. Davy carried her into their room and threw her down on the bed. “I’m alive! it’s a miracle! I’m alive! I’m alive!” Mary yelled running around the house like a chicken with her head cut off. “I had you going there.” Davy said pleased with himself. “Yea knowing you I would get dropped on my head.” Mary said cynically. “Your cheeky.” Davy said sitting on the couch. “So are you.” Mary said sitting down next to him. “Your tellin’ me.” Davy said rolling his eyes. “That’s not what you are supposed to say.” Mary said tapping his nose. “Oh then what should I say?” Davy asked playfully. “Oh shut up.” Mary said pushing Davy. Davy pretended to be hurt and fell on the floor. “Mouth to mouth! I need mouth to mouth!” Davy groaned. Micky who had not seen what happened ran into the living room. “Not you! You.” Davy said pointing at Mary. “Oh yes I can tell your dying.” Mary said rolling her eyes and getting down on the floor next to him. “There.” Mary said giving him a kiss. “Is that as good as you can do? I’m dying!” Davy said. Mary kissed him again for a long time a minuet or two. “That was better I think we still have some to work out…” Davy began. “You have way too much sex drive. So do I.” Mary said grinning. “I like that in a girl.” Davy said sitting up. “I like that in me to.” Mary said straitening out her shirt. “What day is it?” Davy asked Micky who was still watching them confused. “I don’t know. Davy this mean you where not going to die?” Micky asked looking at the calendar. “I’m fine. Micky go back to bed. You are spacey.” Davy said rolling his eyes. “Okay. I will do that.” Micky mumbled wandering out of the room. Davy and Mary started to crack up. “Anyway I don’t have to work today.” Davy said he had the whole week off to spend with Mary. “Yep.” Mary said laying back down on the floor and staring at the ceiling. “A penny for your thoughts.” Davy said laying down next to her. “I am thinking about that first week we met.” Mary said smiling. “Yes I remember that. What a week.” Davy said closing his eyes. “I remember the first thing I said when I ran down those stairs to her cellar.” Mary said giggling. “Oh yes, What was it? Dingy old ladies?” Davy asked giggling. “I have a way with words don’t I?” Mary asked biting her lip. “Yes. That’s is what I love about you. The way you do the things you do.” Davy said kissing her on the cheek. “I remember that night. I don’t know why we did that.” Mary said shutting her eyes. “It was a stupid thing to do. We did not know each other at all.” Davy said. “Yea we had no idea if we had been with anyone else or anything.” Mary said. “I had not. Had you?” Davy asked pulling his fingers through her hair. “No. You where my first time. It was special, I can tell you that.” Mary said sighing. “You are still special to me.” Davy said. “You two can do it on the floor. Just stay in your own room!” Angela said walking into the living room. “Oh sorry I forgot where we were.” Mary said sitting up. “Besides we are only talking.” Davy added. “Oh yes I bet. What did you do to Micky? He was babbling about you guys dying.” Angela asked perplexed. “Nothing. Mary was demonstrating mouth to mouth on me.” Davy said shrugging. “Well he went back to bed anyway.” Angela said sitting on the couch. “Right. And this affects us how?” Mary asked returning to her position staring at the ceiling. A week passed by. Mary and Davy did not do much other than in the bedroom. Then on Wednesday Mary woke up early feeling sick. “Mary are you okay?” Davy asked knocking on the bathroom door. “No I am throwing up do you think I am okay?” Mary asked. “Well you where like this yesterday morning and then you got better. I need to go to work will you live?” Davy asked. “Yes I will be fine.” Mary said and threw up some more. “Davy she is getting sick every morning…” Angela began. “Angela stop it. We are usually very careful.” Davy said. “It only takes one time.” Angela said shrugging. “Mary by any chance are you late?” Micky asked. “What?” Mary asked. “Micky mind your own business!” Davy yelled annoyed. “You know a girl needs her privacy. Mary are you?” “I don’t know I am irregular anyway. Get a test if you are worried.” Mary said brushing her teeth. “I will get one on the way home.” Davy said and left with Micky. “Crap.” Mary said banging her head up against the wall. “Mary relax its not like we can’t handle a kid it will be hard though.” Angela said sitting on the couch. “Wait we don’t even know if I am pregnant or not.” Mary said sitting on the floor. “Yes but if you are its going to be tough.” Angela said. Davy ran back in the house. “Davy what the hell are you doing home?” Mary asked surprised. Davy had a paper bag in his hand. “I could not wait I got a test here.” Davy said handing Mary the bag. “But what about your work?” Mary asked. “I sent Micky ahead they don’t need me for another hour anyway.” Davy said pushing Mary into the bathroom and closing the door. “Fine I will take it if that is what you are trying to tell me.” Mary said through the door. “Yes!” Davy said impatiently. “It is going to be five minuets.” Mary said walking out of the bathroom. “That’s forever.” Davy groaned. Davy and Mary sat on the couch. Davy looked at his watch every few seconds. Finally the time came. “I will get it.” Davy said standing up and running to the bathroom. “Okay I will stay here I don’t want to know.” Mary said curling up in a ball on the couch. “Mary what does a plus sign mean?” Davy asked. “Shit!” Mary yelled and fell on the floor. “Oh.” Davy said running back out to see Mary. “Davy I don’t want to have a baby yet.” Mary said crying. “Why?” Davy asked. “I’m too young!” Mary said burying her head in a pillow. “Oh I sometimes forget that you are only sixteen.” Davy said quietly. “Yea so do I.” Mary said. “What can we do?” Davy asked. “Well I can’t keep it I’m not ready.” Mary said. “Mary you don’t mean?” Davy asked. “I wont get it aborted. I could not live with myself if I did. But what other choice do we have?” Mary asked. “I don’t know. Adoption is not good who knows what could happen.” Davy said shaking his head. “Then that means…” Mary said. “Mary listen….” “No Davy I have to we have no other choice.” Mary said firmly. “Mary I just want you to know I am supporting you no matter what you do.” Davy said holding her hand. “Thanks Davy. My mother aborted the child before me. I know it is painful but I have to.” Mary said holding her head in her hands and crying. “I will call the clinic and make an appointment.” Angela said getting up to leave them alone. “Davy I’m sorry but I just can’t go through child birth at this point in my life. I just can’t stand to do it.” Mary said holding Davy tightly. “I know. I can’t be a father yet either.” Davy said nodding. Davy tried his best not to cry but he could not help it. “Davy you should go to work I will be fine here.” Mary said. “Yes I will go. They will need me soon.” Davy said and left the house. “Angela? What am I going to do? What if Davy doesn’t love me anymore?” Mary asked crying her eyes out. “Davy loves you more than life itself. He will support you because he knows this is what's best for you.” Angela said handing Mary a piece of paper with a date and time on it. “Here is your appointment.” Angela said and left the room disgustedly. “Angela you know it’s the only thing I can do.” Mary said and then ran in her room to try to hide from the world. “Mary this is your last chance to change your mind.” Davy said pulling into the parking lot. “I have to go through with this.” Mary said. Davy sighed. “I have to work they wont let me off.” Davy said a Mary got out. “I know just go then.” Mary said and closed the door to the car. Davy sped off. “He doesn’t love me anymore.” Mary said to herself. Hours later Mary woke up in a small room. She could feel a sharp pain in her stomach that must be where the stitches were. “Owe.” Mary said to herself tracing the line where she felt the stitches. “Mary I see you are awake.” The nurse said walking in the room. “Where is Davy?” Mary asked. “Davy? He must be your boyfriend? I don’t know I have not heard from him.” The nurse said giving Mary a shot for the pain. “Not a call?” Mary asked disappointed. “No. I’m sorry.” The nurse said seeing how hurt Mary was. “You May leave just as soon as the doctor looks at your stitches. And here he comes.” The nurse said looking out the door down the hall. The doctor quickly checked over the stitches and Mary was allowed to change. “May I use the phone?” Mary asked the Secretary at the desk. “Yes.” The woman said handing Mary the phone. Mary dialed home. “Hello?” Angela answered. “Angela can you come and get me Davy is at work.” Mary asked. “Yes I will be right over. Davy is not at work either.” Angela said and hung up the phone. Mary set down the phone and walked outside to wait. “Not at work?” Mary asked herself. “If he is not there. Why is he not here?” Mary was getting scared. Angela pulled up in the car. “Angela thanks for coming. Where is Davy?” Mary asked. “The hospital.” Angela said quickly. “What!?!” Mary asked. “He crashed into a tree on the way to work. He was upset and did not notice that he was veering off the road.” Angela said driving Mary to the hospital. “It’s all my fault. I should have never gotten the abortion.” Mary said. “It’s not your fault. It is no ones.” Angela said. Mary ran into Davy’s room. Davy was awake and in a lot of pain. “Davy your okay thank god.” Mary said crying. “Hi Mary.” Davy said forcing himself to smile. “I was so worried when the nurse said you had not called to check on me then Angela told me where you were.” Mary said kissing him softly on the cheek. “So you almost lost me to then.” Davy said but wished he had not. The words hit Mary strait in the heart. “Oh Mary I’m sorry.” Davy said reaching out to take Mary’s hand. “Oh no Davy that’s fine. I thought this is what would happen.” Mary said pulling away. “What?” Davy asked sharply. “I thought it would happen. You don’t love me anymore. You maybe never did. I know I did.” Mary said Davy cringed under the sharpness of her words. Davy had never seen Mary mad. “Mary I still love you what are you talking about?” Davy asked. “You have not said more than two words to me this week.” Mary said crossing her arms. “Mary I was upset. I’m sorry I love you more than anything.” Davy said reaching out for Mary again. “I’m sorry. I guess I just got a little snappy. I am still tired.” Mary said taking his hand. “It has been a tough year on all of us. Especially you. Its going to be okay though.” Davy said reassuringly. “Yes I just need to sleep I think.” Mary said rubbing her eyes and shaking her head. “You should go home then. I will be fine here.” Davy said kissing her hand. “But I want to stay here with you.” Mary wined. “Go home you just had an operation. If you want to heal you need your rest. I will be fine. Just do this for me get well.” Davy said in a motherly tone. “Yes Mom and I will wash behind my ears to.” Mary said crossing her eyes. “Funny. Just get some rest. Do that for me will ya.” Davy said. Mary bent down next to Davy and kissed him. “Alright. I love you. I will be back tomorrow to visit.” Mary said and kissed him again. “I love you. Bye luv.” Davy said and blew Mary a kiss. “Bye. Love ya.” Mary said and closed the door behind her.
A Poem Part Five By Mary Jones
“Davy I am so glad you can come home.” Mary said singing Davy out of the hospital. “Your telling me. I have been here for a week. You would not believe the sex drive I have.” Davy grumbled. “Well I will just have to fix that wont I?” Mary grinned and kissed Davy. “Yes We are going to have to celebrate me coming home. Maybe more than once.” Davy grinned. “Yea but we have to be careful. I don’t want to get pregnant again. That is what got us into this mess.” Mary said getting in the car and driving Davy home. “Mary what is the date?” Davy scratched his head as he played with his watch. “Your battery run out?” “Yes.” “The 27. You know its September I hope.” “Yea your birthday is in two days. I don’t have anything for you.” Davy slapped himself upside the head. “Davy I don’t need anything. All that is going to happen is I am turning seventeen.” Mary shrugged. “But it’s a special day it means we only have to wait one more year before you can legally get married and all that good stuff.” Davy said excitedly. “You want to get married don’t you?” Mary smiled. “Yes I think that if we can make it that long we will be okay. I love you I know you are the one.” Davy purred. “Well I guess that is true. If you want you can get me something. I can think of something from you that wont cost you a penny though.” Mary grinned. “That would be like I was giving myself a present though.” Davy joked. “Yes but it is good from my angle to.” Mary laughed. “Well I will see what I can do.” Davy teased Mary. “Oh thank you.” Mary pulled into their driveway. “Hi Davy welcome home.” Angela said lying on the couch. “Yea its great to be home.” Davy said leaning on the wall. “You got home in time so that you don’t miss Mary’s birthday either.” Micky said drumming on the table with his drum sticks. “Guys can we not make a big deal out of my birthday?” Mary rolled her eyes. “But you are turning seventeen. That is one year away from adulthood.” Micky idolized the thought. “Yea and pretty soon Davy will be an adult. Then we have to be really careful or Davy could get in trouble.” Mary sat on the floor. “Is that what is bugging you? That you are a year younger than me?” Davy sat down next to Mary. “I’m the youngest one here. You guys are all going to be adults soon. I am still just barely old enough to drive.” Mary sulked. “That means when we are old and cant move you may still be able to move around a bit.” Davy said giggling. “Funny. When you are ninety I will be eighty nine. That is going to help.” Mary began to laugh. “That is a funny thought. I can’t imagine being that old.” Davy thought about it. “Neither can I. I can’t even imagine myself being thirty.” Mary said. Mary heard the phone ring. “I’ll get it.” Micky said and ran to the phone. “Hello?” “Say that again peter.” “We are?” “Davy guess what?” “What? Mike take his hat off?” Davy shrugged. “No. When would that ever happen. The Monkees are going on tour!” Micky announced. “Oh well I am happy for them… We are going on tour?” Davy got excited. “Yes!” “When?” “It starts the thirtieth.” Micky said hanging up with Peter. “Why didn’t we know sooner?” Davy asked. “We did Peter had forgotten to tell us three months ago.” Micky said shrugging. “Oh.” “Mary and Angela can come along can’t they?” Davy asked holding Mary’s hand. “Yes they can. That is what Peter said anyway.” Micky grinned. “You better call Mike and ask him.” Davy suggested. “Yea I will go do that.” Micky nodded and left the room. “Wow. ” Mary said leaning up against Davy. “Mary I want you to come with me.” Davy kissed her forehead. “Are you sure that is a good idea? What if Dad finds me somewhere? Like an airport.” Mary asked worried. “I would wait for years to find you again.” Davy said kissing her. “Your sweet.” Mary said hugging Davy. “So will you go?” Davy asked hopefully. “Yes I am with you all the way.” Mary nodded. “I love you, Mary have I told you that lately?” “Yes all the time. I love you to.” “She can come.” Micky yelled from the other room. “We should start to pack then.” Davy said standing up. “Wait is this a world tour? I don’t have a pass port.” Mary said getting up. “I don’t know. Ask Micky.” Davy shrugged. The day finally came, the day they got on the airplane and set out on the Monkees tour. “I forgot something.” Mary said at the airport. “What?” Davy asked. “I forgot how much I hate flying.” Mary said gripping onto Davy’s arm. “Oh it will be fine.” “That’s what you said last time. Remember?” “That was your first time on a plane. You will do better this time.” Davy said handing the stewardess their tickets. “Well no turning back now.” Mary said a they boarded the plane. “Micky Peter, your not helping.” Davy said looking over at them. Micky and Peter made strange faces and pressed themselves up against the seats. “Oh. Sorry Mary.” Micky said tapping Peter on the shoulder. “Yea sorry.” Peter said giggling and bobbing his head around. “That’s okay. I’m just a little nervous. I have only been on a plane once before.” Mary’s hand shook. “We can tell your scared.” Davy said holing one of her hands. “Oh god its taking off.” Mary closed her eyes. “She is going to be fun to travel with.” Micky shook his head. “Fellas be nice. You think she is having much fun right now?” Davy gave them a dirty look. Hours later Mary crawled off the plane. “Davy I can honestly say I will never go on tour with you again.” Mary groaned. “Yes you will you always forget that you hate planes.” Davy laughed. “I don’t think I will forget this. How long is this tour?” “Six months.” “I am going to die. You will be the death of me.” Mary mumbled. “Oh come on Mary. Was that as bad as last time?” Davy asked. “No. It was just a little bit worse.” Mary thought to herself. “Well I guess I will have to try to live then wont I?” Mary said shivering. “Yes you will.” Davy picked up their bags. “I would help if I could walk.” Mary said stumbling. “That’s okay I can get it.” Davy rolled his eyes. “Give me a bag. I can manage.” Mary took one of the bags from Davy. “Alright then.” Davy put the bags down next to the limmo. “I just feel really weird now.” Mary said getting in. “Oh you will get used to it. Just relax we will be at the hotel in a few minuets.” Davy said holding her hand. “I will be okay I guess. I wish I had my diary out.” Mary said chewing her nails. “You keep a diary?” Davy asked. “Yes. Don’t most people?” Mary asked. “I don’t know. I do.” Davy said shrugging. “You do to?” “Yes. Didn’t you know that?” “No. I have got to write something soon. I am almost in the mood to write a song.” Mary said. “Is this by any chance what air planes do to you?” Davy asked. “I don’t think so. I am just in a mood.” Mary shrugged. “Are we almost their?” Davy asked looking out the window. “Almost.” The driver said turning a corner. “Good.” Davy sighed. “You look tired.” Mary said kissing Davy on the cheek. “I am. The plane ride was awful for one thing.” Davy said giving Mary a look. “I can’t help it if I’m afraid of flying.” Mary said and pushed Davy playfully. “I know. Your afraid of everything though.” “Not everything.” “Black sports cars.” Davy said flatly. “Just almost everything.” Mary’s face turned red. “Black sports cars Mary?” Micky rolled his eyes. “Their freaky. Don’t laugh. It’s not funny.” Micky, Peter, Mike, Davy, and Angela where laughing so hard they could die. “Your all nail biters.” Mary said and looked out the window very annoyed. “Oh Mary don’t get mad. But you are afraid of some very silly things.” “Well it doesn’t help if you laugh at me.” Mary crossed her arms. “Sorry. We all are afraid of something.” Davy said taking Mary’s hand. “I’m not.” Angela announced. “Yes you are.” Micky rolled his eyes. “No.” “Yes.” “No.” “If your not afraid of anything why won’t you ever let anyone win a fight?” “I do to.” “Oh when? Your afraid of loosing.” “Am not!” “See.” Micky grinned. “Your not funny.” Angela said. “Peter do you feel a little left out of this conversation?” Mike asked rolling his eyes. “Yes.” Peter’s head bobbed around. “Well if you guys had girlfriends…” “Micky we can’t all pick up the girls we where supposed to be babysitting. Besides we have girlfriends they just could not come they had other things they needed to do. They did not run away and hide from their parents.” Mike said annoyed. “Have a hissie Mike calm down.” Micky mumbled. “Sorry its just been a long day.” Mike sighed. “Well we’re here.” The driver said pulling up in front of a huge hotel. “Wow.” Mary said looking out her window. “Wow.” Davy repeated. “I have never seen anything like it.” Mary said in amazement. “I know.” Davy said as they walked into the lobby. Mary and Davy made it to their room and decided to spend the night in their room. “Davy this is so cool.” Mary said sitting on the floor. “Your tellin’ me. Nice place this is.” Davy played some chords on his guitar. “Davy play me something.” Mary rolled over so she was laying on her stomach facing Davy. “Like what?” Davy asked leaning over to one side. “I don’t know. What you want to play.” Mary shrugged. “I don’t really know anything. I’m learning how to play right now.” Davy said thinking. Mary heard a knock at the door. “Yes?” Mary stood up. “It’s me Mike.” “Come in then.” Mary said running to open the door. “I was just on the phone with Phyllis. She said it’s over.” Mike’s face was pale. “Oh god. Mike are you okay?” Mary asked leading Mike over to sit on the bed. “No.” Mike shook his head. “Mike I’m sorry. But why?” Mary asked sitting down next to him. “She said that she needed to be with someone with a future.” Mike’s voice shook. “What do you mean?” Davy asked. “Well she thought that what I do is too uncertain. I can’t guarantee that I will be a success.” Mike said. “Oh she thinks that music is not a real job.” Mary nodded. “Exactly.” Mike lifted his head. “Mike if she can’t be with you because of what you do, she did not really love you.” Mary said holding his hand. “I know but that does not help me. It means she lied to me when she said she loved me.” Mike moaned. “Mike don’t worry. Soon you will meet another girl and forget all about her.” Davy tried to help. “Davy.” Mary shook her head. “Sorry just trying to help.” Davy shrugged. “Thanks guys I know you mean well but your not helping.” Mike said. “Mike we can’t help you the way we would like to. I wish I could take all the pain away. What can I do?” Mary asked. “You are already doing what I need you to do. Just be my friend. I need your support right now.” Mike said. “Mike it will be okay though. Remember the last break up I went through? I thought I would never love again, then I met Mary. Don’t give up hope, you will meet someone soon.” Davy bit his lip hoping it would help. “Well said Davy. Last break up?” “Oh never mind I will tell you later.” Davy tried to get Mary away from the subject. “Mike do you want to talk to Micky and Angela? I can go get them.” “No I don’t think that is a good idea. Can you get Peter?” “Yes I will go get him.” Mary ran out into the hall. “Peter! Peter! Open the door!” Mary pounded on his door. “Mary what is it?” Peter opened the door. “It’s Mike come quick. Phyllis dumped him because of his job.” Mary pulled on Peter’s arm, he stumbled into the hall. “Where is he?” “My room.” Mary pushed Peter in. “With Davy?” “Yes.” “Hi Pete.” Mike said sulking. “Hi Mike. How you feeling?” Peter asked. “Bad. How would you feel?” Mike mumbled. “I think you should get some sleep. We have a concert tomorrow.” Davy said patting Mike on the back. “Yea I should.” Mike said standing up. “I hope you feel better.” Mary said as Mike closed the door. “Peter is going to walk him to his room.” Mary said sitting on the bed next to Davy. “Yea. I have never seen him like this. I don’t get that bad most of the time.” Davy shook his head. “I used to get like that. He will be fine in a few days, it wont last long like that.” Mary kissed Davy. “I know. I just feel so bad. I mean I just want to help but I know there nothing I can do.” Davy sighed. “I know I had a friend who used to get worse than that. I just wanted to take all her pain away but I could never do it. I tried.” Mary began to cry. “Mary what’s wrong?” “I got to thinking about all my friends back home.” “Your home sick?” “A little but they are not really the one. The one I am worried about is dead.” “How?” “She killed herself. Life just overwhelmed her she ended it all. I tried so hard to help.” “Mary in those cases you can’t do a thing.” Davy hugged her tightly. “I’m just tired I should go to sleep.” Mary said wiping her eyes. “Yes I will get a tee shirt out of your bag for you to sleep in.” Davy said getting up. Mary sat on the bed sniffling. “Thanks.” Mary said taking the shirt and pulling off the one she had on. “Mary did you loose weight?” Davy asked watching her change. “A little.” Mary said laughing. “I could see it.” “Why were you looking?” “I do more than look at you sometimes, don’t get me going.” “Oh yea.” “Go brush your teeth. Meathead.” “Hey that’s my line.” “Oh sorry.” “Meathead.” “There’s a knock at the door.” Davy and Mary both looked at each other. “Hi Peter. What is it?” Davy asked while Mary brushed her teeth. “Mike went to bed. He is going to be okay I think.” Peter said. “Oh good. Well we are going to go to bed. Good night Peter.” “Good night.” Peter said and walked back to his room. Mary crawled into bed. “Good night Davy. I love you.” Mary said as he turned off the light. “I love you to cutie.” Davy said getting into bed. Davy kissed Mary then went to sleep. Mary knocked on Mike’s door. There was no answer. Mary heard a strange noise and opened the door. Mary gasped at what she saw. Mike was lying on the floor. His hands were covered in blood. He had cut his wrists. “Mike No!!” Mary screamed. “Mary! Mary! Wake up!” Davy shook Mary awake. “Mike?” Mary jolted awake. “No Mary. It’s me Davy. You had a bad dream.” Davy said hugging Mary. “Oh god.” Mary said and held on to Davy. “You had a bad dream about Mike right?” “Yes.” “So did I. I checked up on him he is fine.” Davy said rocking Mary back and forth. “I thought he was dead. He killed himself.” Mary’s voice shook. “Well it was only a dream. He is fine.” Davy said glancing at the clock. “What time is it?” “Midnight.” “Oh.” “Mary try to go back to sleep. I have a concert tomorrow and I want you to be there.” Davy said kissing her forehead. “I will try.” Mary said lying back down and pulling the covers up to her chin. Mary sat backstage. She could hear hundreds of girls screaming. “Davy!” They all yelled. “And to think I have him all the time.” Mary said to herself and giggled. “And I would like to dedicate this next song to a very special girl. Mary this is for you. Fellas can we get Mary out here for a second?” Davy asked looking back at her. Mary shook her head when Micky looked at her. “Yea I think so.” He said grinning. “Mary come out for a sec luv.” Davy waved for her to come out. “No!” Mary said but was pushed on stage by a crew member. “This is Mary. Say hi.” Davy said looking at her. Mary waved. “Okay Mary you can go now if you want to.” Davy said smiling. Mary ran off. “I am going to kill him.” Mary said to Angela who was laughing. “At least he did not ask you to sing.” Angela shrugged. “Wait till Micky gets you up there to say hi.” Mary stuck her tongue out. “He wont.” “Why not?” “I already threatened his life.” “Oh I should have thought of that.” “I’m just a little bit smarter than you.” “I did not expect Davy would do that. I can see Micky doing that.” Mary shot back. “Oh the pain.” Angela said laughing. “Mike looks better today.” Mary changed the subject. “I know he was so sad yesterday but today he is just fine.” Angela nodded. “I wonder what made him cheer up.” “Well you should ask him after the concert then.” “I think I will.” Mary said and turned back to watch Davy and the band perform. “Davy is doing well.” Mary said watching Davy run around the stage. “If by well you mean being totally hyper and not being able to stand still, then yes he is doing better than well.” “Oh shut up. Nail biter.” “Mary you’re the one who bites your nails.” “Oh yea.” After the concert Mary caught up with Mike. “Hey Mike. How are you feeling today?” “Great.” “Yea I thought you looked better. What cheered you up?” “Well I decided to get on with my life and I saw the most beautiful girl I have seen in my life at the hotel this morning.” “You did. What is her name?” “I don’t know. Mary do you think you can find out for me?” “Mike you want me to? Why me?” “Because you are good at talking to people.” “People I know. I am bad at first impressions. Remember when I first met you guys. I said something stupid right off.” “Yea but that’s good. It makes people feel like they can talk to you because you are no better than them.” “Oh thanks.” “I meant that differently. Mary please. Do it for me and I will never ask another favor of you.” “Okay I will. Your like a brother to me how can I say no. When we get back you point her out to me.” Mary agreed. “Thanks Mary you’re a pal.” Mike gave Mary a hug. “Yep.” “Mary don’t tell anyone about this. I want them to be surprised.” “Okay you have my word.” Mary nodded. “There you are.” Davy said catching up with her. “Oh were you looking for me?” “Yea I am doing a quick interview and they wanted to talk to you as well.” “Okay. I have never done this before so I might do something stupid though.” “I am counting on it.” “Your mean.” Mary said pushing Davy. “I know.” Davy grinned. Mike and Mary stood in the lobby. “Okay Mike do you see her?” Mary asked as Mike scanned the room. “Let me see. There she is!” Mike said pointing to a tall girl with blond hair. “Is it? It can’t be.” “What?” Mike asked. “Just a sec.” Mary said and walked up to the girl. “Mary what are you doing?” Mike waved for Mary to come back. “Excuse me. I think I know you.” Mary said tapping the girl on the shoulder. The girl turned around. “Mary?” “That’s me. I thought it was you.” Mary said hugging the girl. “Mary how have you been? It has been ages.” “Great Sara. How have you been?” “Oh I am okay. Lately I have been a little down.” “Oh why?” Mary asked Mike stood back in shock. “Oh you know how I am about being single and all.” “Yea. Oh sorry Mike. Sara this is Mike he is a friend of mine.” Mary said pulling Mike over. “Hi. You look formilure to me.” Sara said shaking his hand. “He is one of the Monkees.” Mary said. “That’s why.” Sara snapped her fingers. “Mike why don’t you and Sara talk for a while. I have to go. Davy needs me for something.” “Davy?” Sara asked. “He is my boyfriend. Where are you staying? We can drop by later.” “Room 342. You should drop by. I would like to meet him.” Sara said. “Well I will let you two talk then.” Mary said and ran off. “Um well.” “Mike would you like to go and get some coffee?” Sara asked. “Yea that would be nice. I have nowhere I need to be. The other guys are all busy with their girlfriends.” “Oh were is yours?” “Um I recently broke up with a girl.” Mike bit his lip. “Oh sorry.” “Oh that’s okay I don’t mind it was time for us to go our separate ways.” Mike shrugged. “I know what you mean. I have had a few relationships like that. I like being single but its just not to much fun once you have been in a few relationships.” Sara nodded. “Mary were have you been?” Davy asked. “With Mike in the lobby.” “Oh why?” Davy asked. “Well I guess I can tell you now that he has met her.” “Her who?” “Let me tell you. Well he saw a girl this morning that he liked. He wanted me to strike up a conversation with her. He said I make people feel comfortable. Funny thing is it turned out to be one of my school mates in town.” “A friend of yours?” “Yea. Sara and I have known each other since seventh grade.” “She live in the town were your Dad lives?” “Davy, yes but she would never tell Dad were I am. She is nicer than that. Besides I would be a senior this year so next year I would be out on my own. Dad can’t come and get me now because I am old enough so I can legally quit school and he said if I quit I am out the door you see.” “So you mean we don’t have to worry about you being found anymore?” “Now that I think of it no. Besides if we did you already blew it today.” Mary said kissing Davy. “Oh yea.” “I told Sara that later tonight we would stop by her room for a second.” “We are?” “Well I thought you would like to meet the girl that caught Mike’s attention for one thing, and I want her to meet you.” “Okay. Why do you want her to meet me?” “I want her to see what a sweetheart I got hold of.” Mary said hugging Davy. “I should be the one showing off you. You’re the best thing to ever happen to me you know.” “Davy I just thought of something.” “What?” “Your birthday is coming up soon.” “So?” “You will be an adult and I will be a minor still.” “Oh I see what your saying. Mary don’t worry I will be good for a year if we need to. I don’t want for you tog et into trouble and I don’t want to get arrested.” “I know you would never want to be arrested.” “Yea because then I would not be with you.” Davy said holding her hand. “That is the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me.” Mary smiled. “I don’t want you to ever go away either.” Mary kissed Davy. “I promise I wont if you promise you wont.” “I promise.” Mary whispered in Davy’s ear. “What time do we need to go see your friend?” “I would say an hour and a half.” “Will that give us time?” “You want to?” “If your up for it.” “Anything with you.” Mary shrugged. “Well why are we talking about it then?” “You have a point.” Mary grinned. “Micky want to have some fun?” Angela asked. “Like what?” “No not that! I meant we could do something evil to Mary and Davy.” “Yea but I like my idea better.” “Listen you know what they are doing right now. They would be really mad if we knocked on the door and ran.” “Actually why don’t we just go with my plan.” “I give up what the hell.” Angela shrugged and Micky and she ran jumping on the bed. Mary and Davy took the elevator to Sara’s floor. “Hi Sara.” Mary said when the door opened. “Oh hi Mary. Come on in. Mike is here.” Sara said giving Mary a hug. “Hi Mike.” Davy waved at Mike who was sitting on the couch. “Oh Sara this is Davy.” “Um hi Davy. Mary told me a little bit about you.” “She did?” “Actually your name was about it.” “Well I am Davy, Davy Jones.” “Oh that’s your last name. She did not tell me that.” Sara nodded. “Why don’t you tell me about yourself?” Davy asked. “I am Sara Murphy. Mary and I have been friends since seventh grade.” Sara said sitting down next to Mike. Mary sat down and pulled Davy down next to her. “Yea we met in math class when I moved to Millinocket.” Mary said thinking back. “Mary was the weirdest girl I ever met. You should have seen her. She was funny.” “Oh boy here comes my past to haunt me.” Mary rolled her eyes. “Oh no I want to hear this.” Davy said grinning. “Yes she has braces that had no wires and the funniest cloths. She had these banana earrings that were horrible.” Sara said giggling. “Bananas?” “Yes and all kinds of other things you name it she had it.” “Watermelons?” “I still have those.” Mary said crossing her arms. “Do you have any pictures of her?” Davy asked. “Yes I do hold on a second.” Sara got up and ran to her suitcase. “Davy I am going to kill you.” Mary said gripping onto his hand. “Here.” Sara said handing Davy a photo album. “Who is the girl with fire truck red hair in all those pictures?” “That would be me.” Mary said turning red. “What happened to your hair?” Davy asked laughing as he flipped through the pictures. “I died it.” “Are you the blond one here?” “Yes.” “Oh wow your hair changed a lot.” Davy said looking at the pictures. “I was having an identity crisis.” Mary said squeezing Davy’s hand. “Owe!” Davy said and pulled his hand away. “Sorry I am a little bit sensitive about how I looked.” “Sara what have you been up to?” Mary asked ignoring Davy. “Oh I am in town for a few days on vacation. I had a little too much to handle back home and Mom thought this would be good for me.” “Yea. Have you talked to my Dad by any chance?” “Yes. He wanted to know if I knew where you were. He said you ran away with your babysitter.” “Yea. Has he been very worried?” “Not really that note you left him was very reassuring. He knew if things were bad and you were not happy you would come home or get a hold of him.” Sara smiled. “Yea I guess so.” “Funny that it was you who ran away though. You were the responsible one with your feet on the ground. I had thought it would be Cassie or Adam. Speaking of irresponsible were is Angela?” “Oh you know that she ran away with me. Well she is in her room with Micky.” Mary said. “Oh. So you both are dating one of the Monkees then. Is that very interesting now that they are becoming famous?” “Yes we just started traveling. It is a real treat for them because I hate airplanes and get scared every time I am on one.” “I can only imagine. You must be awful.” “Awful is not the word for it.” Davy nodded. “Hey you wanted me to come.” Mary said hitting Davy on the arm. “You hit like a girl.” “I am a girl!” “Oh yea.” Davy giggled. “What time is it?” Mike asked. “Oh wow its nine.” Mary said looking at Davy’s watch. “We should get to bed.” Davy nodded. “Sara what time are you going to get up do you think?” “Oh usually around nine.” Sara said. “Well if I catch up with you we should have breakfast together. I want to find out about what is happening in Millinocket.” “That would be great.” Sara said seeing Mike, Davy, and Mary to the door. “Yes well see you then.” “Bye.” “Bye.” “Mike how did things go with you two?” “I think I’m in love.” Mike said as they rode down the elevator. “Well goodnight Mike.” “Goodnight Mary.” Mike wandered into his room. “I am so happy for him. I hope this works out.” Mary said smiling. “I know. Sara seems perfect for him.” Davy agreed. Midway through the concert the Monkees were let off for a break. “I am so glad to be home for a week.” Mary said flopping over onto the floor. “Your tellin’ me.” Davy said falling down next to her. “Get a room.” Angela said rolling her eyes. “Don’t mind if we do.” Davy said sitting up. “Neither do I.” Mary nodded. “Lets go then.” Davy said standing up. “But I don’t feel like walking.” Mary said leaning back on her elbows. “I will carry you then.” Davy said picking her up. “You would swear he had not got any for a year.” “I may not after my birthday if I don’t want to go to jail.” Davy said running into the bedroom. “Randy Scouse Gits!” “So are you!” Mary yelled as Davy closed the door. “Never mind that.” Angela said grinning. “Now that they bring it up we are illegal.” Micky said. “Can we continue to be that way?” “Well you turn eighteen in July so I guess so.” Micky said. “Great. Want to go be illegal?” “Yea.” Micky said getting up. The next day Davy read the adds in the newspaper. “Hey Babe what are you doing?” Mary asked coming up behind Davy and hugging him. “Reading the adds. I think since we are finally ahead in life we should get a bigger apartment.” Davy said flipping pages. “That’s great we can use the space. Besides I want to start writing again. I need a room to go to that is quiet.” “Why don’t you write in our bedroom?” “Because when I go in there you are always there pretty quick. Not that I mind that.” Mary said grinning. “Well here is a good house. It has an office. You can have that.” Davy said pointing. “It looks perfect.” Mary nodded. A few days later Davy, Mary, Micky, and Angela were moved into a new house. “This is better than an apartment.” Angela said happily. “Yea our own house.” Davy said proud of himself. “And now I can start writing.” Mary said rolling out of her office on a chair. “Luv do you think you will be okay for two days without me?” Davy asked. “Why?” Mary asked. “I have to fly to New York for an interview.” Davy said. “Yes I can. When do you go.” “In a few days.” Davy said. “Okay buy before you go I have to give you an early birthday present.” Mary said. “Want to give it to me now?” “Okay but you have to wrap it up if you know what I mean. I don’t want any surprise guests.” Mary said pulling on Davy’s arm. “I can do that.” Davy said nodding. Soon Davy was on a plane and Mary was back in her office working on a story. “Mary we are going out.” Angela said as she and Micky walked past Mary’s office. “Okay I will be fine. Davy should be home tonight sometime.” Mary said nodding. Mary left her office for a second to get rid of her shoes. Mary walked through the house barefoot. She entered her office looking for a book. Davy crept up behind her. “Hello luv.” Davy said wrapping his arms around her. “AAAA!” Mary said dropping the book. “Did I surprise you?” Davy asked moving his hands up and her hips. “Yes. When did you get home?” Mary said kissing Davy on the cheek. “Just a second ago. I missed you.” Davy spun Mary around and unbuttoned the first button on her shirt. “How was your trip?” Mary asked helping him remove her shirt. “Good. Mary what is the trick to these clasps?” “There isn’t one.” Mary said reaching behind her back and undoing her bra. “Well then.” Davy said unbuttoning her skirt and watching it slide to the floor. “How long has it been?” “When did I leave?” Davy asked. “Two days ago.” “It felt like a year.” Davy said slipping off his pants. “Don’t you think we should go to our room?” Mary asked leaning up against the wall. “No. Why not do it here?” “Alright. I feel a little weird though.” Mary said sinking down to the floor with Davy. “I just hope we don’t get rug burn.” Davy said nibbling on Mary’s ear. “It’s worth it.” Mary said sighing. “Your tellin’ me.” Davy said rubbing his hands up and down Mary’s body. “AAAAAA!” Angela yelled walking past the room and looking in. “Crap!” Mary said kicking her door shut. “I think we should get dressed and go to our room.” Davy said his face was bright red. “Imagine how Angela feels.” Mary said pulling on her shirt. “Mary for gods sake!” Angela yelled disgusted. “This is my office besides I did not know you were home.” Mary yelled not bothering with her underwear. “That is one hell of a mood breaker.” Davy said annoyed. “Do you think you can still um…” Mary turned red. “Yes I will be fine. You may need to give me a second or two.” Davy nodded. “Okay you run ahead I am going to say sorry to Angela.” Mary said running into the living room to talk to Angela. “Mary why in the hell did you leave the door open?” Angela asked looking sick. “I did not remember you.” Mary shrugged. “Well why don’t you just go off and have fun.” Angela said cringing. “Sorry.” Mary said and left the room. She then realized she was carrying her bra and underwear in her hands. “I would.” Mary said to herself and entered her room. “Davy you think you will be okay.” “Yea lets try this again.” Davy said moving towards Mary. “I think this must have been the most embarrassing day of my life.” Mary said removing her shirt as Davy undid her skirt. “Mary you never wear skirts. Why did you have one on today?” “It can be taken off easier.” Mary said kissing Davy’s neck. “Oh.” Davy said laying Mary down on the bed. “Davy can I be the fire chief this time?” Mary asked. “Sure. But you have to do CPR.” Davy said pulling the covers over their bodies. “I have no problem with that.” Mary said rubbing her hands across Davy’s chest. “Good because I would die otherwise.” Davy’s hands worked their way up Mary’s body. Mary breathed deeply. “Davy, let me see one of your hands.” Mary said taking one of his hands and showing him how to touch her. “Oh is that better?” “God yes!” Mary said biting her lip. “Your doing fine.” Davy said heavily. The next morning Davy was in one of the best moods any of them had ever seen him in. “Davy honestly I think I like you better when you are pissed off in the morning.” Angela said pouring herself a cup of coffee. “Sorry I just had one of the best nights of my life last night…” Davy grinned. “Please no details.” “Sorry I can’t help it.” Davy shrugged. “Go to bed.” “But I just came from there. I didn’t sleep though.” “Yep there goes my appetite.” Angela said tossing a banana on the table. “Oh good morning Mary. Davy just gave me all the unwanted details in the world that surrounded last night.” “That’s not true! I only gave part of them.” Davy said with an evil grin. “Oh you did, did you?” Mary asked giving Davy a kiss. “I just couldn’t keep it to myself.” Davy shrugged. “Hey guys. I heard your horizontal limbo contest last night. Who won?” Micky asked sitting down next to Angela. “Mary did.” Davy said digging through the fridge. “Four times.” Mary said holding up five fingers. “Mary you have too many fingers there.” Angela said. “Oh sorry did I say four? Five.” “There goes my appetite.” Micky said pushing away an apple. “So what did you guys do last night?” Mary asked chewing on her nails. “When?” Micky asked rubbing his eyes. “When you guys went out.” Mary said giving him a look. “Oh. We went out to eat and went dancing.” Micky said thinking back. “Oh.” Mary nodded. “Davy when do you go back on tour?” Mary asked turning around in her chair. “Next week. Are you coming with us?” “I can’t I have to work on my book.” Mary said. “Are you sure?” Davy asked disappointedly. “Yes. I will miss you though.” Mary said sighing. “I am going to be gone for five months. Your going to be alone all that time.” “Davy if you really need me to come I will.” Mary sighed. “Yes.” “Alright I go. On one condition.” “What?” “You can’t pick on me on the airplane.” “Killjoy.” Davy said nodding. “I can wait to finish up that book.” Mary said and took a bite out of an apple. “Thanks luv.” Davy said giving her a kiss. “Anything for you.” Mary said getting up from the table. “Going to work on you book?” “Yes. I want to get as much of it done a possible.” Mary nodded. “How is your book doing?” Micky asked. “Pretty good so far.” Mary said and left the room. “What is she writing about?” Angela asked. “I have got no clue.” Davy shrugged. “Davy go find out.” “She wont let me read it. She does not like to show her work until its done.” Davy said. “Well fine then.” Angela said crossing her arms. “Why don’t you go ask her then.” Davy said leaving the room. “I will.” Angela said standing up. “Mary?” Angela asked knocking on the office door. “Who is it?” Mary asked. “Me Angela.” “Oh come on in.” Mary said rolling away from her desk and opening the door. “Mary what is your book about?” Angela leaned up against the wall. “Oh it is about this couple that has this small chance of be able to stay together because of this ridiculous way they met.” “It’s about you and Davy isn’t it?” Angela crossed her arms. “Well it does not use names of people we know. But kind of.” Mary shrugged. “Is that why you won’t let Davy read it?” “Well its not just that it is because it is just a little to personal for me to let him read till its done. I have all my thoughts and feelings written down and they need an explanation.” Mary picked up a dart and threw it at a picture on the wall. “Mary who did you just hit with a dart?” “That’s me.” Mary said throwing another one. “Um okay. Why are you throwing darts at yourself?” “I hate how I used to be. I was this self serving bitch and I was miserable I made myself and everyone around feel horrible.” Mary said getting up and pulling the darts out. “We all need something to hate. At least your not like that anymore.” Angela shrugged and took one of the darts. “Did I really change that much though?” “Well yea. You just told Davy you would go on the tour with him even though you really wanted to stay here and work on your book. That is not self serving.” Angela threw the dart. “I guess you right.” Mary nodded. “Well I will let you get back to your book.” Angela said and left. “Damn now I have nothing to write.” Mary said to her self and threw another dart. “I think I should change pictures.” Mary said opening her desk drawer and pulling out a picture of her younger brother. “Here’s to fourteen years of hell with you Tom.” Mary said pinning up the picture in place of hers. “So is this what you do all day?” Mary spun around to see Davy in the doorway. “Writers block.” Mary said stepping back from the dart board. “Oh let me see that dart.” Davy said taking one. Davy threw the dart and hit the picture of her brother right between the eyes. “Your good.” Mary said tossing a dart at the picture. “I never met your brother.” Davy said sitting on Mary’s desk. “Be glad.” Mary said throwing her last dart at the board. “Or any of your family for that matter.” Davy said thinking. “You will someday. Just not yet.” Mary said sitting next to him. “I know when you are eighteen maybe?” Davy asked. “Yes I guess you can meet them then. Don’t be surprised if my dad tries to hurt you.” Mary said laughing. “Oh?” “Well I will have been missing for two years without a trace. I did run away with you.” Mary pointed out. “Maybe we should just meet your mom then.” Davy said biting his lip. “If dad tries to kill you I will give him hell.” Mary said laughing. “I don’t trust that tone in your voice.” Davy said putting his arm around her waist. “Besides you are small you can move faster than him.” “Funny.” Davy said starting to tickle Mary. “Oh god don’t.” Mary said laughing. “Why not?” Davy asked trying to keep Mary from falling off the desk while she laughed hysterically. “Because I will just have to kill you.” Mary managed to say. “I’m scared. I am small and move fast though.” “But I am faster than you.” Mary reminded him. “Fine I will let you live.” Davy said and stopped tickling her. “Thank you so much.” Mary said pushing Davy. “Your very welcome.” Davy said laughing. “Shut up.” Mary said getting off of her desk. “No. You can’t make me.” Davy said playfully.
A Poem Part 6 By Mary Jones
“Happy eighteenth birthday Mary!” Angela yelled upon seeing Mary in the morning. “Please I am tired, grumpy, my hair is a wreck, and I am in a shirt and boxers.” Mary said digging out some aspirin. “Stop your bitching.” Angela said crumpling up a piece of paper and throwing it at Davy. “Morning cutie.” Davy said giving Mary a kiss. “Morning. I have the biggest head ache.” Mary said sitting at the table. “Yea you look terrible… What are you doing in my boxers?” Davy asked throwing the paper back at Angela. “You never wear this pair so I took them.” Mary said smiling. “Yea I don’t even know where they came from.” Davy said looking at the pair of pink boxers with red hearts. “Well as long as you did not buy them yourself I think it wont matter.” Mary shrugged. “But I wonder who has the bad taste to but something like that.” Angela scratched her head. “Hey Mary I have a pair just like those.” Micky said walking in the room and seeing Davy’s boxers. “I had to ask.” Angela groaned. “I almost whore mine today.” Micky said laughing. “I got this pair from Davy he never wears them.” Mary laughed. “I think I got his a pair for Christmas a few years ago.” Micky said deep in thought. “That’s where I got them.” Davy snapped his fingers. “Well they are pretty comfortable.” Mary said pulling them up. “A little big for you I think.” Davy commented. “I like them like that.” Mary admitted. “Well why don’t you keep them. For one of your birthday presents.” Davy said giving her a hug. “Today’s your birthday isn’t it?” Micky asked slapping himself upside the head. “Yes.” Mary groaned. “Why do you hate birthdays so much?” Davy asked running in the other room to grab a present he had gotten for her. “It is just silly. I don’t know why I am celebrating getting through one more insane year.” Mary said boosting herself up onto the counter. “Yea but you get all kinds of free stuff from friends.” Micky said excitedly. “I guess that is kind of fun.” Mary laughed. “Mary I got you something.” Davy said handing her a small box. “Oh you really don’t have to get me anything you know.” Mary said carefully removing the bow. “I want you to marry me.” Davy said as Mary opened the box to see a ring. “Davy its beautiful. Where did you get the money for this?” Mary gasped looking at the small diamond. “I saved up for it. I thought you would like it.” Davy said taking the ring and slipping it on her finger. “Wow. I love it.” Mary was trying to speak but she could only manage to get a few words out. “Is that a yes?” Davy asked. “Yes.” Mary said playing with her hair. “That was beautiful.” Micky said sniffling. “A little privacy guys.” Davy said noticing that Micky and Angela were standing right there. “Sorry. We never get to see anything do we?” Micky said pushing Angela out of the room as he went. “Anyway. Micky and Angela are getting married as well. We have the whole thing set up.” Davy explained. “What about Mom and Dad? I want them to be there.” Mary asked. “I found your parents and your brothers they are all coming.” Davy said. “When?” “Next May.” Davy answered happily. The Months flew by quickly and soon it was almost time. “Mary I still don’t know why we had to spend two days at Mike and Peter’s.” Angela complained as she helped mary with the buttons on the back of her dress. “Because it is bad luck to see the bride for two days before the wedding.” Mary explained looking in the mirror. “You ready?” Angela asked. Mary took a deep breath. “Yes where I Dad?” “Right here.” Mary’s father said walking into the room. “Dad thanks for coming and being so good about this.” Mary said giving him a hug. “You’re a big girl and you are going to make your own decisions weather or not I like it. I want to be a part of your life so I have to accept what you are going to do.” Her father said taking her arm to lead her down the isle. “You mean you don’t like Davy?” Mary asked hurt. “No I don’t like the fact that you are getting married on a beach during a sunset. It is bad for taking pictures in.” Her dad said as they stepped out of the tent that had been set up. “Here we go.” Mary said and walked down the sandy beach to stand next to Davy. “Hi Davy you okay?” Mary whispered Davy’s hands shook. “Yea I just have a little sand in me boot that’s all.” Davy nodded. The ceremony began. The priest began to talk and soon Mary and Davy had to speak their vows. “I do.” Davy said nervously glancing over at Micky. “And do you Mary?” The priest asked. “I do.” Mary said nodding. “Micky do you take Angela to be your wife?” “I do.” “Angela you know the drill.” “I do.” Angela said laughing. “Okay you may now kiss the brides.” The priest said. “Its about time.” Mary said tossing her flowers behind her and kissing Davy. “I love you.” Micky said to Angela. “Micky I love you to.” Angela said nodding. “Davy lets go home.” Mary whispered. “Alright I will go get the car.” Davy said letting go of Mary. “Well Dad thanks for coming. I am going to go home.” Mary said giving him a hug. “I need to go I have a plane to catch.” Mary’s father nodded. “Come and visit us anytime.” Mary said hugging her brothers and mother. “Same here.” Her mother said kissing her on the cheek. “Hey Davy.” Mary’s dad ran after Davy. “Yes?” Davy asked startled. “Take care of her for me.” “I will.” Davy said shaking his hand. “Ready Mary?” Davy asked. “Yes. Lets go home.” Mary said and Davy carried her to the car. Well as the saying goes “The rest is history.” Maybe some day we will check back in on Davy and Mary or Micky and Angela. They would love the visit.
