"2 Stupid Dogs" is a cartoon produced by Hanna-Barbera. Roughly
speaking, the title of the show says it all. Each episode (with a few exceptions) features
two stupid dogs, the main characters of the show. It's a welcome break from the
ever-annoying purple dinosaurs and planetary captains, being totally free from moral
lessons.
The whole show is based on the stupid things the characters do and say, in good
Hanna-Barbera tradition. But this show is special. These dogs are really stupid. This is a
show for both kids and adults, because it is childishly funny and still has lots of high
level irony and sarcasm. There are lots of intelligent and not-too-obvious jokes packed in
there, and perhaps some of them are better off being not-too-obvious, with respect to the
children watching the show.
It seems like many of the guys behind the first season of this show have gone working
elsewhere, the main reason probably being that the show hardly got any attention at all
when it first started airing. I don't think people didn't like the show, they just didn't
know about it. Luckily, the show has been getting very popular in the last couple of
years. Today it is shown two times a day on Cartoon Network. Many people watch it
and think of it as their favourite cartoon.
To my knowledge, Cartoon Network are the only ones airing 2 Stupid Dogs on a regular
basis. If I'm not mistaken, Turner Enterainment, which owns Cartoon Network, also owns
Hanna-Barbera and with them the rights to this show. .
CAST

Little Dog
Yes, that's "Little Dog". He doesn't seem to have a name, and if he does, he
apparently doesn't even know it himself! This guy is a hyper-active little fellow. Always
jumping around and singing whenever he has accomplished something. He also has a bit of a
philosophical edge to him, but mostly he's just hopping along cheerfully without a care in
the world. He's quite sensitive, constantly showing his emotions. A total opposite to the
more or less apathetic Big Dog. And he's incredibly cute! In the scene in "Spit
Soup" where he is dressed like an eskimo, he's just adorable.. He's deadly afraid of
cats, and he loves balls. In the episode "Las Pelotas!", he's in heaven. Oh,
"Las Pelotas!" is Spanish for.. Balls!
Big Dog
This guy actually has a name! In various episodes he's been called "Johnny" and
"Jonathan". Big Dog is the complete opposite of Little Dog. He is slow-moving,
slow-talking, and intelligent in a weird sort of way. Once he gets his brain out of the
coma it seems to be in most of the time, he is actually quite eloquent and sensible. Most
of the time, however, he only worries about food, and how to get more of it. Hence his
most common phrase: "Where's the food?". Some of the strangest and weirdest
quotes come from him, and the voice just cracks you up.
Hollywood (Mr. H)
This guy is a regular visitor in lots of episodes. He comes in various shapes and sizes: A
substitute teacher, a farmer, a hippie pet-shop keeper with afro hairdo, Noah (from the
bible), a casino manager - you name it, he's been there! He has even starred in an episode
or two; The "Substitute Teacher" episode immediately springs to mind. He is
responsible for the perhaps most known and loved phrase of the whole show: "Isn't
that cute.. BUT IT'S WRONG!!!" and variations like "Isn't that cute.. BUT WE'RE
ALL GONNA DIE!", and "Isn't that cute...... You thought I was gonna say IT'S
WRONG, right?".. Wonderful character, he is as much a part of the show as the dogs!
Cat
Like I mentioned, Little Dog is deadly afraid of cats. Doesn't look dangerous though, does
he? He's even the star of one of the episodes, called - you guess it - "Cat!".

Red
Red is the star of three episodes - "Red", "Return of Red" and
"Red Strikes Back". These episodes are loosely based on various fairy-tales,
like "Hans and Gretel" and "Little Red Riding Hood". Though, this Red
is a bit more big-mouthed and even more curious and nearsighted than her fairy-tale
counterpart!

Cubby
This guy can be seen in episodes like "Far-Out Friday", "Post Office"
and "At the Drive In". In these episodes he is, respectively, a box boy in a
store, a post office clerk and a snack bar owner. I sure hope this guy isn't the
stereotype American teenager.. :)
