Tweak & Cheat Yours Final Fantasy VIII PC (plus FFVII PC)
By Peter
some tips for "YAMAHA SoftSynthesizer S-YXG70" user
because syxg not a freeware , so u need to get a Final fantasy
installer disc(inside
have a free syxg 70)
set "mutimedia" on control pannel midi output
to syxg70 & Audio"Avanced Properties"/performance
acceleration =full/sample rate conversion uality =Best
config soft XG
set cpu load 40%
set "engine" XG soft
set polyphony 64~
set sampling rate 44k
if in "ff8 config" have a selection of which device U gonna use for Midi music (like ff7PC) please select "Midi driver = Yamaha syxg70" & midi data = Yamaha XG
note: only OPl-3 & other sound card support Yamaha GM midi can use this "YAMAHA SoftSynthesizer" other sound card like "AWE64,SBLive,(all creative chipset) do not support this software.
note : you need 233Mhz speed or faster processor to use all the configuration .....
The problem is this yamaha syxg cant work in Win98(1st version)in 95 or osr2 there is no problem at all ......
how to make it work without a single "crash"in win 98?
do like this :
before run the XG player or other app that use this emulator..go
to C:\Program Files\DIRECTX\SETUP tun the
"DXDiag"(dx6.0,6.1,7.0)
2.if you have a "A3dsound card" ..go to C:\WINDOWS create a short cut wt a file call "A3dsplsh" place it to "start up" folder(C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
3.some game cant run correctlly wt "A3dsplsh screen enable" (only run the"A3dsplsh" audio)
ps: for the best peformance in 3d gaming ,only use vera3ddrivers208
Tweak the FF VIII Configuration
For "Voodoo 2" card user check this box (only)
if you have a
problem when changing screen (battle /world map) or after win the
battle ,& didn't load back to world map but kick you back to
window ....do this
only use the "microsoft Synthesizer" (to
pump up your 3d video frame rate performance ,don't check the
"Reverb"
& "Chorus" box.
YAMAHA SoftSynthesizer S-YXG70 work in FF8 is diffrent then FF7,& sound quality didn't sound like FF7...(read the "orchestral music add-on section") to use the SoftSynthesizer S-YXG & see that option in yours FF8 configuration "directMusic port, use must instal the "DLS" from ff8 installer CD.
ps: Yamaha S-YXG may cause "problem" in changing
screen.(delay or kick out) ,other problem is the FMV (video
playback) slow loading or skiping screen ..to reduce this
problem,go to Start \Setting \Control panel \System \Performance
\File system\ CD-rom...
set cache size to small or set double speed.

Finally, a solution to the horrible MIDI quality packaged with
FF8 PC. Many of
you were complaining about it (including me), so I decided to do
something about it
by making a custom FF8.DLS. For now it contains the original
sample sounds, plus
the orchestrated version of the standard battle theme "Don't
be afraid". More songs will be added later on.
If any of you FF8 fans have a good background knowledge in
Audio/MIDI/DirectMusic and wants to help out with this little
project, I'd gladly appreciate it. Things will go
alot faster I'm sure. E-mail me if you're interested.
All right, here's where to get the files:
For those of you who aren't registered members on freediskspace, you'll have to make a freediskspace account before you can get to them. Sorry about that, but hey, you get FREE disk space!

FF8 PC Cheats

Qhimm (MrData82) makes good FF7/FF8 hacks
He made the FMV ripper, and he's currently working on save editor
for ff8..
http://home.swipnet.se/mrdata82/
I was looking at AdrenalineVault (good source of cheats) where
I found a trainer for FF8 PC..
http://www.avault.com/cheats/displaycheat.asp?game=dl_cm-ff8tr&type=2
Use with caution.. since it works.. of course you already beat it
once so..
I found no bugs in it, and you don't need to press the F1 F2 etc
buttons to execute the cheats.
Q: Nobi: it works for you?! can you please tell me the procedure of how you used it? 'cause i'm been trying the past few days to get it to work but it doesn't....it never recognizes my ff8pc.
A: Probably because you have to put the trainer .exe file in the folder where you installed FF8.. then execute both ff8 and the trainer, which you run first doesn't matter since it recognizes the game.
