  Before in the old days people use to let their rigde back free and they can wander around anywhere they want to. While some were raise in farms,homes,and temples.The history of the TRD was during the time of "King Ramkamheang The Great" of Sukothai during 1283. "King Ramkamheang" set his troops to Indochine or Vietnam now to conquer more territories by using the best soldiers. They met the rigdeback dog(Not the one now). It was a strange kind of dog so they brought these dogs back to Thailand. And they mate with other dogs and the TRD was originated. During the time of "Phra Chao Song Tham" of Ayutthaya(1627) there was a record of the TRD like this:

  "This dog is large. The height is over 2 sawk (sawk is the Thai unit of measurement from the elbow to the fingertips of an adult). There are many kinds of color.They all have ridges and they are fierce. It is loyal to their owner and the entire household. It can dig in the ground to search for a small prey. They like to follow their owners in to the woods. If they catch any prey they will retrieve it back to its owner. They love their companionship and goes anywhere with their owner,even as far as the big yang tree.It is very powerful and courageous and isn't afraid of anything at all. Their ears are erected and the tails are erected like swords of a tribesmen. It also says that if anybody has this dog, he or she will recieve its loyalty."
