   RT14 on Feb 28 99      

Top Left: RT 14 and an unidentified H2 trains at Greenwood yard. RT14 was a G2 train 5104 originally built in 1959. As the H6 trains began running in 1988, 5104 was withdrawn from passenger service and began her second career as a wall washer train in June 1988. RT14 and RT15 (ex 5104, 5105) still exist on Feb 28 99. Her brothers 5100 & 5101 which also became RT38 & RT39 were not so lucky as they were scrapped in the Wilson yard in the fall of 1998. See 5101 (photo from Metro Archives) when she was still in passenger service.
Top Right: The interior of the first M1 train 5300, it was in the early 1990s when the larger size fleet # began to be applied on all subway trains.

5099
A TTC postcard shows the retiring lead car 5099. 5098 and 5099 were the last pair TTC G1 trains

Metal plates with larger size fleet # replaced the traditional small size fleet # stickers.
 
Retired 5312
Montrealer 5312 was finally retired with her fleet # removed first in May 1999, 5312 itself was then removed from Davisville yard for scrap a few weeks later.
 
5327
5327 was seen at lower Bay station.
5347
5347 is one of a few remaining H1 trains in the early 1999. Also see the Interior of 5347
 
5408
H1 subway train 5408 and 5409 got a 2nd career after initial retirement and they are used as work cars.
 
5433
The interior of 5433, the exterior body of 5432 received some modification in early 1990s.
 
Retired H1 5436
Goodbye 5436! On May 13 1999, a retired H1 train was seen on a flatbed truck travelling northbound on Yonge Street from Davisville yard to HWY 401, a Future Entreprise pickup truck was at the front and another police motorcycle was at the back to make sure everything was fine until the flatbed truck arrived at the scrap yard in Hamilton. Another photo shows the train was just crossing the intersection of Yonge and Eglinton. A closer look at the front of the train indicated the train was 5436 and all of her windows had been removed.  The last photo shows the rear of 5436.
 
Retired H1
A Toronto Star photo shows the first retired H1 train which was on a flatbed truck, it was on the way to the Hamilton scrap yard.
 


 

RT28 on Feb 28 99   

Top Left: RT 28 is a 57"-7' D.E. Flat Car built in 1987, the double ender began her career in 1988.
Top Right: A Feb 28 1999 view shows H5 and H2 trains at Greenwood, the H5 train to the far left is 5754. (Her partner 5755 was badly damaged on the Dec 31 1981 accident, 5755 was subsequently scrapped in Nov 1985,  portion of the driving cab was sent to Hillcrest for driver training purposes) 5754 still has the original destination sign but no headlights and the small ladders on the front. Other H5 trains are receiving their mid -life rebuild at Greenwood yard.

RT 40
RT 40 is a non-motored ballast car built by Dynex in 1989 and joined the TTC in June 1990, the trucks were coming from a retired G1 train.
 
RT 41

RT 47


At Davisville yard is RT 41, which is a Tamping Car and RT 47 which is a Flat Car, retired H1 trains 5408, 5409 are used to push RT 47
around.
 
Lower Bay sign
This unique sign looks just like the others but the directions it gives cannot be found anywhere in the TTC subway stations.
 
Lower Bay station
The actual reading should be BAY YORKVILLE. No or lack of maintenance deteriorates Lower Bay station but that's exactly why some people spent 25 times the regular TTC fare to visit this station.
 
5580
5587

The H4 subway cars are going to stay longer due to increasing ridership, 5580-81, 5586-89 were out of service awaiting for the rebuild at Davisville yard in Nov 2001.
 
5586
5586 is a H4 train with "Kipling" exposure at Davisville station in May 1999.
 
5004
5004 was seen turning westbound at Victoria Park station in Sept 2007, It seemed the other set of cross-over track was never used.
 
5022
5022 was at Davisville when she was only a few months old.
 
5144
T1 subway train 5144 carried the "Star Wars" body ad in Nov 2002.
 
5202
T1 subway train 5202 was reserved exclusively for the Grand & Toy ad, both inside and outside. This photo was taken on Aug 31 2002.
 
5807
5807 is one of the extra 4 H5 trains, 5804-07, that  were ordered because of the loss of 5388-5391 in an accident. 5804-5807 used to carry the red and orange stripe lines on the front for many years but were removed in the mid 1990s.
 
Crashed H1 5343
On Aug 11 1995, 3 passengers were killed in a fatal subway crash. A Toronto Star photo captured the H1 5343, the train which was rearended by a H5 train 5721.
 
Crashed 5721
A Toronto Star photo shows the damaged 5721 which was seen at the subway crash scene, it was reported that 5721 travelled at 56 km/hr, then slowed down to about 40-45 km/hr when she hit 5343. Another Toronto Star photo shows 5721 was being towed northbound to Wilson yard a few days after the accident. The whole Spadina subway line resumed the normal service 10 days after the horrific accident.

UTDC displayed this Sacrborough RT 3000 model in the 1986 Vancouver Expo.

Brand new Rocket train 5451 meets 5331 at Davisville yard. 5451 just finished the training duties of the day.
