This is my genealogy page. The main lines are Swan, Wilson, Self, Spain, Lindsey, and Chatwell

SWAN

My SWAN family only goes back to 1850 or so and is still a mystery. Family tradition is that a Swan either killed or thought he killed another man on a dock in Cincinatti while defending his brother. He was a steamboat carpenter with a family, but ran "across the river" and started a new family. We are from this line. I've never found anything to back up this story, however it was one passed around for years.

The most I can go back is to Andrew J. SWAN b. ca. 1833 TN d. 1870 AR. m. 6-11-1860 (Dallas Co.) Almedia HULSEY b. 1844 Florence, AL d. 1900 Cravens IT. They had two children who survived:

Mayetta b. 15-1-1863 d. 13-12-1898 Cameron OK;

William John b. 1864 d. 20-7-1917 Wilburton, OK.

Andrew was in the Civil War as a private. Other family stories are that he kept running away and trying to get home. He was very tall and had bright red hair. This is how he was caught at least once hiding behind a barn door. I also was told that he had to have a special bed made because he was so tall.

The facts that I have actually found are that he was a private in the 26th Arkansas Infantry from Dallas County AR. He was in the 1860 (Dallas Co) & 1870 (Sebastian Co) census of Ark I believe he is also in the 1850 census of McNairy Co. TN (the name is spelled Swain). He died sometime between 1-9-1870 and 14-12-1870 because his wife, Almedia HULSEY, remarried on that date. However, I've never been able to find an obituary or gravestone for him. The family said he is buried in the "Potato Hills".

WILSON
Another family I am researching is the WILSONs. My gr grandfather was William Harvey Wilson b. 2-11-1852 MS d. 2-2-1892 Cravens, Choctaw Nation IT m. Nancy Jane TRAYLOR b. 28-8-1861 AL or MS d. 18-7-1943 Wilburton, Latimer Co, OK . William was the son of Peter WILSON (no facts only tradition) and "a MILLER". Nancy TRAYLOR was the dau of William TRAYLOR ( see below) and Isabella MILLER (see below)

William H. WILSON and Nancy Jane TRAYLOR had eight children, four who survived to adulthood:

Sarah Adeline WILSON b. 31-10-1878 Lamar Co., AL

Robert Wellsbury WILSON b. 2-8- 1882 AL

Beulah May WILSON 20-90-1890 Hartford, Sebastian Co., AR

Mary Jane WILSON b. 27-9-1880 Tupelo, Lee Co, MS d. 25-11-1962 Wilburton, Latimer Co., OK m. William John SWAN.

Most of my WILSON info is from an old family bible. The TRAYLOR info is family tradition gathered from my uncles, especially Elmer SWAN, who remembered meeting his grandmother Isabella MILLER when he was a boy and she was very old.

MILLER - TRAYLOR - WILSON

Isabella MILLER was born 6/8/1833 in S.C. died 21-5-1916 in Lamar Co. AL Providence Cemetery. She was the dau of William MILLER b. ca. 1791 SC d. 1869 Lamar Co. AL and Elizabeth G. WILSON b. ca 1795 SC d. unknown probably Lamar Co. AL.

Isabella married William H. TRAYLOR b. 12-31- 1831 York Co. SC ( son of William B. TRAYLOR) d. ca 1871 Hatley, Monroe Co. MS. He was a Pvt in Co. E of the 26th Ala and was shot and killed around 1871 or so.

Do not know William B. TRAYLOR wife's name. In the 1850 census York Co. SC, he is with his second wife.

On the MILLER line, Isabella MILLER dau of William Miller (see above), William MILLER was the son of Robert MILLER and Jannet WHITE.

I got this information from a cousin in Alabama; she has an aunt who remembers Isabella MILLER. She has given me a lot of information, mostly about the MILLER line, but some TRAYLOR info too. I have checked the census and cemetery records and she has been correct on everything so far. The MILLERS, WHITES, BLACKS, and WILSONs intermarried a lot, so I am not sure if all the WILSONs are from the same family or not.

It has been said that all the families came from York SC on their way to Mississippi, some got tired along the way and settled in Fayette and Lamar Cos in Al. Others went on to MS. This was some time between 1850 and 1860.
