Broome County, New York Postal History
Colesville: June 6, 1806 - May 9, 1876
Photo of Nathaniel Cole's Tavern on Coles Hill
The tavern, in operation by 1800, was located at the corner of what is now Colesville Road and Watrous Road.
The post office, established here in 1806 with Nathaniel Cole Sr. as the first postmaster was evidently at the
right rear of the building, across the hall from Nathaniel Cole Sr.'s room. He died in 1832, and was succeeded
by his son, Nathaniel Cole Jr. who died in 1844. His son, James Henry Cole succeeded him until the tavern was
sold when the post office was discontinued in 1876.
