Air Pump
These provide a continuous supply of oxygen and produce water currents for increased water circulation and better filtration in aquariums. Rising bubbles agitate the surface of an aquarium, increasing gas exchange, releasing carbon dioxide and other potentially harmful waste products. The flow of air can be used to decorate a tank with bubbling ornaments and airstones or operate a protein skimmer on a saltwater reef aquarium. There are even battery operated pumps for aerating fish during transportation or an entire aquarium during a power outage.
Helpful hints
1. Always use an air check valve to prevent water damage
2. Avoid installing pumps where water might splash on them
3. Replace rubber parts and flappers with a repair kit regularly to maintain pump performance.
4. Replace diaphragms when new airstones do not increase air flow.
5. Check tubing connections periodically to make sure they are tight.
6. Replace pump air filters when dirty to allow maximum air flow.
7. Change airstones frequently to avoid clogging and damage to the pump.
