MEDIA

VOICES OF AFRICA:
Founded in 1993 by Gift Musarurwa, is unique in the fact that no other media organisation attempted to form a Southern-based, indigenous information service of African authors and writers.
The programmes offer more than a look at the day's head-lines. They furnish a mixture of serious and light hearted reflections on and about Africa and its People. The programmes with a high standard of professionalism search for a true image of facts and views as exist on all levels of African societies, with no bias towards any powers that may be. They reflect the reality of people on all levels of their daily struggles to find a secure place in a changing world at home and globally, individually and as members of their respective societies.

Since 1992, programmes of African authors were fed into radio networks in the North and in 1994 broadcast to more than 480 Public stations in the United States of America using Galaxy 4 Satellite, and as over voiced versions, into public radio networks in Germany and Africa.

Efforts to create a "VOICE OF THE SOUTH" were recognised at the United Nation's Conference on Population and Development in Cairo in September, 1994, where Gift Musarurwa received the "GLOBAL AWARD FOR MEDIA EXCELLENCE" for "BEST RADIO PROGRAMME"; out of 160 participating countries from the Prime Minister of Egypt, Mr. Artef Sidky.
Recipients of this Award in other categories were e.g. THE TIME MAGAZINE and THE WASHINGTON POST.
In February 1994, Gift Musarurwa was awarded the Reuters First Prize at Zimbabwe's "NATIONAL JOURNALISTIC AWARDS" in the category "BEST PRODUCER, INFORMATION AND EDUCATION".
