GEOFFREY CHAUCER

Born 1343 in London, England
Father was a wine merchant
May have started school at the Latin grammar school of Saint Paul's
Cathedral
Later he may have attended the Inns of Court to study law
In 1357 he became a page of Edward III's third son, Prince Lionel's
wife, Elizabeth, countess of Ulster
After 10 years Geoffrey became an esquire to Edward III
Around 1366 Chaucer marries Philippa Roet
From 1374 to 1386 Chaucer served as the controller of customs
for London
About 1386 he moves to a country in Kent (think to be Greenwich)
From 1386 to 1389 he was juctice of the peace and representative
to Parliament
From 1389 to 1391 he became a clerk of the king's works
Died October 25, 1400 and was buried in Westminister Abbey
