Movies
Wild Wild West: Whoo hoo! I love Will Smith, and my boyfriend likes movies with nifty gadgets (yeah, you'll see us first in line when 'Inspector Gadget' comes out), so we decided to see this on our anniversary. It was really nifty! It's quite funny, and both Will Smith and Kevin Kline are great in their roles! I don't normally like westerns, but this one was very good. I recommend it :)

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me: After hearing my best friend say what a great movie it was, I was slightly disappointed when I actually went. There were some funny parts, but overall the first "Austin Powers" is much better. Feel free to debate it with me, but if you've seen "Austin Powers" and "So I Married an Axe Murderer" you'll realize that most of the jokes have already been done. I definitely think it should be seen by all Austin fans (even though Dr. Evil is much better in this one) simply because it's legendary! (And it beat out "Star Wars," and we've got to keep that up.) There are some great lines, and Dr. Evil's rap with Mini Me is the highlight :)

Notting Hill: This was different than most other romantic comedies in the sense that it's completely far-fetched and it was more of a comedy than a romance. (My boyfriend's attempt to take me to a sappy movie with this one was thwarted when we found ourselves laughing hysterically in the theather.) I suppose I can look past the fact that it would never happen--and Julia Robert's character was RUDE--and see it for what it really is: funny!

The Mummy: The plot was good (I like ancient Egypt), the actors weren't that terrible, and the special effects were great. But the characters were the most inept people I've ever seen! There was not one intelligent person in the entire film. It was very...odd. It's definitely one of those "special effects" movies.

Books/Stories

"The Beast in the Jungle" -- Henry James: I was forced to take American Literature for my major, and this is the only good thing that came out of it (well, mostly). If you can wade through James' thick, rich style, you will find an amazing story full of symbolic imagery and psychological turmoil. I loved it. :)

"Babylon Revisited" -- F. Scott Fitzgerald: I enjoyed The Great Gatsby when I read it in high school, so I wasn't surprised to find that I liked this story as well. It's an easy read, fairly short, and it's not a far cry from his other work.

"The Revolt of 'Mother'" -- Mary E. Wilkins Freeman: I did my critical dialogue on this story because it was groovy! It had all kinds of groovy stuff (the title of my critical essay was "Linguistics in a Patriarchal Society"), and it is a definite reversal of roles. Go go, read it!

Music

Wild Wild West soundtrack: Yea! I adore Will Smith, so I bought this CD the moment I could. Not only does it have some great "western" tunes, fun rap songs, and Spanish-sounding music, it has "Wild Wild West" on it! So it had to go to my collection :)

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack: It includes Dr. Evil's rap. What other reason do you need? Lenny Kravitz's new version of "American Woman" makes an appearance and, as Heather says, "it has the best Green Day song since it doesn't have any words." And they didn't forget to include "Soul Bossa Nova," only this one is a bit trippier :) It's a fun soundtrack.

Games

PSX--The Game of Life: This is tons of fun! It's just like the classic board game (but you can play the enhanced version, too). You and up to 5 friends can choose your character and car color in order to drive through your life! You go from 1950 to 2000 (with a soundtrack and car designs of the time) and get a job, get married, buy a house, have children, and retire! It's a lot of fun and requires no brain cells to play :)
