...our old man is crucified with Him,that
the body of sin might be destroyed ROMANS 6:6
WHAT IS REPENTENCE:
The word 'repent' means: to regret and feel
sorrow for, to turn away from, to change
from past evil. Repentence is a change of
mind, a change of attitude and of conduct.
In short, a change of life. Repentence is confessing
your sins to God after you have come
to the knowledge that you are a sinner,
having trangressed against the Holy Word of God.
It is feeling sorrow for your evil deeds.
Repentence is more that just a feeling,
it is a decision.
"For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation..."
2 Corinthians 7:10
"And with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation." Romans 10:9-10
An altar represents a place where sacrifices
are offered to Deity. The altar is where
the 'old man' dies, it is where we
surrender and commit our lives to Christ.
"And they that are Christ's have crucified the
flesh with the affections and lust"Romans 6:6
WHO SHOULD REPENT, AND WHEN
The scriptures plainly state that everyone should repent.
"And they went out, and preached that men
should repent." Mark 6:12
"...but now commandeth all men every where
to repent:" Acts 17:30
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be
baptised every one you..."Acts 2:38
And, it is not a one time event.
Christains should maintain a healthy Prayer Life,
in which they should repent daily.
" ...I die daily."1Corinthians 15:31
These are the words of Paul. He stresses
the fact that it is necessary for repentence
to be a daily routine. See also
Revelations chapters 2 "&" 3. Here God, in
speaking to churches that had already been
established, commands them to repent.
A person should repent as soon
as they feel condemnation. It is very
important to act when you come to
the realization that your sins has caused
a seperation between you and God.
You will feel a sence of guilt,
when your sins have been revealed
by the convicting power of the
Holy Ghost. God is a Holy God,
so Holy in fact, that when you
stand in His Presence, God does
not owe us anything. It is by
His Mercy that we are drawn to
salvation. God may not give you more
than one opportunity. Therefore, it is a
dangerous act to reject that Mercy when
it is extended.
(see Acts 5:31,Romans 2:4,2 Timothy 2:25)
"And the Lord said, My Spirit shall not
always strive with man,..." Genesis 6:3
IS REPENTENCE NECESSARY FOR SALVATION
"...Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
Luke 13:3,5
"Some men?s sins are open beforehand, going before
to judgement; and some men they follow after"
1 Timothy 5:24
There are two kinds of sins, the forgiven
and the unforgiven. The forgiven sins go before
a person to judgement, then the sin is
cast away. The unforgiven sins follow a person
to judgement, then, having been judged a sinner
and transgressor, the person will be eternally cast
away from the presence of God.
"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your
sins may be blotted out,"Acts 3:19
Repentence is a necessary step in having your
sins erased. By confessing your guilt, God in
turn forgives. Your sins are not only forgiven,
but also forgotten. They are put under the
blood that He shed for you on calvarys cross.
"Ifwe confess our sins, He is Faithful
and Just to forgive us our sins, and
to cleanse us from all unrightousness."1 John 1:9
HEAVEN TAKES REPENTENCE SERIOUS
1. It was John the Baptist, who led the
way for Jesus' ministry, that preached his only
sermon over and over.
" ...Repent ye, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."
Matthew chapter 3, Mark chapter 1, Luke chapter 3,
2. It was Jesus' first message.
"...Repent ye, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."
Matthew 4:17
"...Repent ye, and believe the Gospel."
Mark 1:15
3. It was the Apostles first message.
"And they went out, and preached that men
should repent." Mark 6:12
4. It was the first message after the newly born Church.
A crowd had gathered around the 120, who
had just recieved the Holy Ghost in the
upper room. Peter stood and begin to preach
the prophesy concerning this phenomenon
and Jesus Christ.
"Now when they heard this, they were pricked
in their heart, and said unto Peter and
to the rest of the Apostles, Men and
brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said
unto them, Repent, and be baptised every one
of you in the Name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins, and ye shall
recieve the Gift of the Holy Ghost."Acts 2:37,38
"I say unto you, that likewise joy shall
be in Heaven over one sinner that repenteth,
more than ninety and nine just persons,
which need no repentence."Luke 15:7
Once the old man has been put to death,
it is time to bury him in the
waters of baptism.
