Norton's Jewelry Store is in the 100 block of Main. It was almost directly across the street from my grandfather's busines which was at 114 Main. That address is now the home of an antique and gift shop. Granddad always called it his junkie joint because he sold second hand furniture, clothing, books, etc. as well as numerous other items. I would have "sworn on a stack of Bibles" that I remembered seeing Norton's clock hanging over the sidewalk when I was a small child. However, I read something this summer that said that the store was established about 1950. And, I was in my mid-teens by then. Mr. Norton is a history buff and his display windows frequently have interesting displays of items relating to the history of Marietta and Love County. |
