Spider Games

 Spider Cube Melt (K-6)

Supplies

Ice cube trays or paper cups
Small plastic spiders
Paper towels

Directions

1. Freeze plastic spiders in the center of the ice cubes.

2. Have children form a circle. Then they pass the spider ice cube around try to to melt it in their hands.

3. The kids can melt these cubes quickly, so have a cube per minute ready to go.

Variation: Use paper cups instead of an ice cube tray to make larger cubes. To do so, fill a cup one-half to three quarters full. Place the spider in the water and freeze it. After freezing tear the paper cup off before you need to use the cube. These larger ice cubes can take up to five minutes to melt in the children's hands.

  Spitting Spider (K-6)

Supplies

Ball of dark yarn

Directions

1. Have the kids sit in a circle.

2. Hand the first player a ball of black yarn. The child holds the end of the yarn and tosses the ball to another child.

3. The second player holds onto the yarn or wraps it around his wrist, then throw the all to another child.

4. Continue until all the children have tossed the ball of yarn and a spider web is formed.

Variation: Each child adds a sentence onto a story that a parent helper starts before giving the ball of yarn to the first player.

  Daddy Long Legs (K-6)

Supplies
Version #1
Shoe box
Spider webbing
Three pairs black pantyhose
Nine tennis balls

Version #2
Two shoe boxes
Spider webbing
Six pairs black pantyhose
Eight tennis balls

Directions
Version #1

1. Take three pairs of black pantyhose and put one tennis bal into each leg, push the b alls down into the toe/heel area.

2. Tie the pantyhose around the child's waist allowing the toe/heel area to hit the ground. You now have spider legs--six nylon ones, and the child's own two legs.

3. Place a shoe box without its lid and stand it up on its long edge. Stretch cobwebs over the box's opening. This is your spider web.

4. Now mark a circle on the floor with masking tape. The player stands in the circle, attempting to swing the spider legs and hit a tennis ball (call it a "fly") into the spider web.

5. The tennis balls are placed on the floor within the circle. Use three so each child gets three shots.

6. Players should knock the ball with their make believe spider legs, not their real feet.

Version #1
Daddy Long Legs can also be a great relay game.

1. Form two teams. Attach spider legs to one child on each team. Give each team only one tennis ball (fly), placing the balls in front of each team on the floor.

2. The first teammate swings the legs to knock the fly into the web. (Remember, don't use feet)

3. have the player start about five to seven feet back from the spider web.

4. The player retrieves the bal and gives it to the next teammate. A parent helper switches the spider legs from one player to the next and the game continues. Expect lots of laughter. This is hysterical to watch.

5. The first team to finish wins.

 Spider Versus Flies (K-6)

2. Attach plastic flies to the web.

3. Mark a starting line with masking tape.

4. Have kids take turns tossing three plastic spiders at the web.

5. The object of the game is for the spiders to hook onto the attached flies.

Flower Spider Bowling (K-6)

2. Mark each petal with a different point score.

3. Designate a starting line with masking tape.

4. The player receives three tennis balls, (pretend these are spiders) to roll onto the flower.

5. The balls need to land on the petals.

 Spider Crawl (K-2)
