Famous "Fifteen" Hangouts

The following were the favorite locations for "Fifteen" characters. As you'll see, this was a low-budget show; they didn't deviate much from show to show. But we still like it.

    School

Technically, it was Hillside School. We really must assume it is a high school; several times they mention being high schoolers, and occassionally, being tenth graders. However, characters like Billy, Theresa, and Erin were obviously younger, being the siblings of the tenth graders Courtney, Brooke, and Matt (respectively). Therefore, we can assume it contained at least 8th graders, although some of them sure looked a lot younger.

    The Lockers

Where some of the most important conversations occurred, where things were overheard, and where occassionally, dreams took place, like when Theresa goes stark mad for Dylan and believes she is dancing with him. Scary. Anyways, the interesting thing about these lockers were that they rarely closed, exemplified early in the first season, when Matt slams his locker, and it swings back open in Ashley's face.

    The "Cafeteria"

Right down the lane from the lockers. It had three tables, chairs, and a non-descript soda machine. People did not buy their lunch at Hillside; they bagged it. Dylan liked to practice guitar here, and the debate between Russ and Jennifer took place here as well. Also the location for the doomed recycling bins that Olaf and Cindy tried to set up.

    The Locker Room

There were guys and girls locker rooms, although it is pretty obvious they were the same room (for the guys' scenes, a chalkboard was added in the back, for the girls, there were pink sheets of paper). Here is where some of the more serious conversations took place, like when Matt was confronted by Jake about his drinking problem, and where Janice was accused of stealing Courtney's necklace.

    The Avalon

Ah yes...who could forget the Avalon. It was a restaurant, it was a hangout, it was a place to spill your guts (or start a fight). Basically, four booths that sat four Fifteenians comfortably were here, along with a "bar" of sorts where surly Avalon workers stood. The main Fifteen gang of Matt, Ashley, Courtney, and Arseman usually took the booth closest to the back area, which housed two more booths, pinball machines and video games. There were three doors into the restaurant; one close to the bar, another directly across the bar, and one in the back area. Close to the bar exit was the Avalon sign, which simply said, "Cafe". In the first season, it was neon, but after that, plain plastic. The Avalon sold a variety of foods, including pizza (it was the home to the punishing pizza bonanza that Arseman subjected Dylan and Chris to), sandwiches, and gum (don't ask me how that works, I wasn't on the show). Some important scenes that took place at the Avalon included the chilling confrontation between Brooke, Kelly, and Theresa after Brooke discovered their scheme to steal Olaf's notes; the "I'm not a ****ing alcoholic" spiels (and there were many of them) that Matt offered Ashley, and the "gig" that Teenagers in Love finally got.

    Student's Homes

We mainly got to see Brooke's house in the first two season (later on it became Jennifer's [hi!]), where sundry fights between Theresa (and then Amanda) took place. Who could forget the time Brooke threw that blasted Geometry book at the door, or the time that she brought home Stacey and dazzled her with her neato television set.At the beginning of the second season, when Ashley was deciding to go to boarding school (Waverly, to be exact), we had a couple of scenes between her and Courtney down here. It had a TV and a couch, and not much else. One episode had scenes from Courtney's father's apartment,as a huge "party" was taking place there. Courtney gets dissed by Dylan here, and then Ashley is forced to leave early when she finds out that Matt has become embarrasingly inebriated at a local park.We visited Matt's home early in the third season, as he packed up for detox...Lastly (and these are vague memories, cuz I don't have these eps. on tape), we have Russ' house, where several scenes between the suddenly benevolent Chris and the then-leukemia suffering Russ occurred.

    The Garage

Dylan's main hangout of choice was his garage, which we can assume was adjacent to his house. However, I have to wonder if he really lived in his house at all; he was always bitching about his parents. In any event, almost every Fifteen character found their way to his garage in one way or another (I think the exceptions being Matt, Theresa, and Amanda, but don't hold me to that). Basically, this served as the jamming location for Teenagers in Love, the "band" made up of Billy, Chris, and Dylan. In the first season, however, T.I.L. didn't exist, so all we had was Billy banging away on the drums. Other exciting scenes here included:*Ashley's running away from boarding school and hiding out
*The kisses (oooohh) Dylan had with Courtney and Brooke
*Janice's realizing that Dylan wanted her for her brain, not her body
*The last scene of the first season, where all of a sudden Cindy, Billy, Dylan, and some unknown character have a band

The Mall

Eventually the Avalon as a hangout was phased out and the mall took importance. Here we had Billy (in the fourth season) desperately offering Pepper (yes, her name was Pepper) tickets to Salt 'n Pepa, sundry kisses between Ashley and Dylan, and clothes, clothes, clothes galore to be purchased!
