WHERE CAN I GET???

Hello Again and welcome to Installment two of "Where Can I Get?" Well after I bought my Massey-Harris 22 it was obvious that it needed Brake work. When I stepped on the brakes they didn't do a lot. So I jacked up the tractor and removed the axle housings and rear wheels and found the first problem was. The person who owned the tractor before me thought that if there was a grease fitting that you pumped grease into it until the gun was empty. There must have been at least a gallon of grease in each axle housing. I couldn't even see the brake discs but they were there, some were So I cleaned the grease from the linings with mineral spirits. Then after letting them dry out for a few days, I took the discs to work (I work at a machine shop with a heat treating room) and I baked the grease out of the discs in the drawing oven for a day. After doing this I found that the brakes on the one side were all right but the other side was worn out and needed new lining. After looking in all the tractor parts catalogs I had I couldn't find any brake discs for the "22". So I decided to get the discs I had relined. After I looked around for awhile I found Industrial Brake Company, Inc., 300 Clay Ave. , Mars 724-625-0010 and they said that they could reline the discs for $50.00 a piece. Since a tractor that doesn't stop is just a tiny bit dangerous I decided to splurge and get them relined.Since then I had my clutch relined at R& H Industrial Friction Service, 1425 Babcock Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15209, 412-821-3433. After getting my clutch relined I talked to one of the owners and he said that they could reline almost any friction surface. You can also get relined and new brakes at SURPLUS TRACTOR PARTS CORP., 3215 W. MAIN AVE., P.O. BOX 2125, FARGO, ND 58107, Phone 1-800-859-2045. Another good source for parts is your local equipment dealer that handles your brand (if they are still around). Another place that you can look is your Yellow pages. So if you are looking for a part or have found a source for parts that I haven't written about. See me at a club meeting or write to me to let me know. I know this is a short article but I didn't get any response from you club members so lets get those letters or e-mail or phone calls to me so I can have more to write about next time.
