IN LOVING MEMORY - Winter (June 1987 - March 20, 2001)

Winter was born around June of 1987 which made her almost 14 years old when she died. I picked her up after TC's sister Lucy died because I wanted to raise two kittens together. It must have worked because TC was very protective of her. It was OK if he beat up on her but if any other cat gave her any problem then TC immediately went to her aid. At 16 pounds she was the heaviest of the bunch and I tried to diet her from time to time. In late 2000 she was diagnosed as having diabetes and received two insulin shots per day. She also had occasional bouts of FUS, a urinary track infection. She took one 25mg tablet of Hydroxyzine HCI once a day. The medication seemed to help because it had been over a year since her last bout. Of the four cats we had, Winter was the shy one in the group. When people came to visit she often hid somewhere. She also liked sleeping under blankets and bedspreads during the day, in effect hiding from the others. Winter also was the big eater in the group. If you didn't keep an eye on her, she'd gobble her food and then try to finish off whatever the others left. She was very affectionate to me and seemed to be basically a one person cat. She wouldn't sit on my lap unless I was at the PC but every time I sat in the easy chair she jumped up and laid next to me alongside my hip and legs. Sometimes when she wanted me to sit next to her she would come over and rub and butt up against me, meow and then head for the chair.
