Maggie's Picture Page

When Whitey died he left a big void in our lives. After about a month I went to our local SPCA to see what they had and this 7 month old female calico cat chose me. I figured giving an abandoned cat a loving home would be a good tribute to Whitey. I brought the kitten home and my wife and I named her Maggie. We had forgotten how energetic and rambunctious a young cat can be. She's definitely a wild little bundle of energy that loves to be around people and play but isn't a lap cat. It's funny but she has several of the qualities that Whitey had that we loved so much. Maybe some of his spirit was infused in her when she came here to live. Like Whitey she has a sweet tooth and will hound you for a taste if you have ice cream, cake, pie or any other sweet goodie. Like Whitey she also waits for me in the window to come home from work and then runs down to the door to greet me. And like Whitey, she waits every night for me to go to bed and then comes up and jumps on the bed and snuggles up to me. However, she also has her own sweet personality and her own traits and habits. Over the short time she has been with us we have grown to love her very much. Our other cat TC who will be 15 years old in June 2002 also likes having her around. It took him several weeks to get used to her but now he plays with her and grooms her. It's added a spark to his life having such a young cat around and cured his lonliness since he was never an only cat his whole life. He still hisses and growls at her when she gets overly rambunctious and he wants to be left alone. Nobody will ever replace Whitey who was a one-of-a-kind type character but Maggie has gone a long way toward filling the void.

It's hard to believe that Maggie has been with us for over two years already. She has grown into a fine adult cat who is definitely a "daddy's girl". While still not a lap cat she is slowly getting there. She now gets on my lap mornings when I read the paper and occasionaly when I watch TV.
