A Little Bit About Larry T
Quick Background
- Married for 16 years to a wonderful woman. Have a step daughter I'm proud of who graduated from Albany State college
with a Masters Degree in Social Welfare.
- Have 1 cat, a Calico domestic short hair named Maggie and a Yorkshire Terrier dog named Gabby.
- Lived in various places in New York most of my life except for a year in Mississippi and three years in Virginia.
Other than that have been in the Mid-Hudson Valley of NY.
- U.S. Air Force 1968-1972 (Electronic Digital Data Processing Repairman).
- Electronics Specialist for a large bearing manufacturing company from 1972 to 1981.
- Joined IBM in May of 1981. Worked as an Equipment Service Technician on various lines for many years. Also headed a
skills retraining program for manufacturing employees for a few years.
- Went back to college nights to earn an AAS degree in CIS (Computer Information Systems) with a GPA of 3.87. Also
earned 90 credits toward a BS degree in Computer Science.
- In 1990-1991 I went through IBM's NPE (New Programmer Education) program for about 15 months full time. Joined a
programming group writing test code for new mainframe products and code to automate current processes.
- In 1993 got caught in the massive downsizing of IBM in this area and have worked for various companies as an
independent contractor ever since. Also taught various adult education PC Classes part time at two local community
colleges and a business school.
- On March 14, 2001 I was hired back at IBM full time as a regular IBM employee. For retirement and vacation purposes
I got back the 12 years I had when downsized in 1993. Going back has been a mixed blessing so far. I'm grateful for the
job but this is not the employee friendly IBM that once existed. IBM now works you to death and considers you a resource.
Something to use up and throw out when not needed anymore. This was once again proven to me after 4 years of hard work, long hours
and plenty of personal sacrifices when once again I was told on May 31, 2005 that I was being let go due to the latest round of
"resource actions".
- I have a wide variety of hobbies and interests and am very knowledgeable in many areas.
