Well here one for all you desk Sgt. who think that because your sitting behind a desk and not out in the patrol car that you can let your guard down. You just might want to think again.

I am Sgt. Slavin with the Ft Stewart Ga Military Police. We detained a Civ on post for DUI and Drunk and Disorderly Conduct, Guy was a real pain out on the scene and in the station at 1st. He refused IR 5000, give name ect... just being combative in his actions for about an hour or too. Damm the patrols was able to get his paper work done and he sat inside the cooler for a few hours (waiting on his G- Friend to come and get him). While sitting in the cooler (oh btw the cooler is the holding room nice place if you like blue and a hard bench) he passed out and remained peaceful for a long time. His Friend came in and I thought what the hell, I was just going to release him to his friend and he is going home. I tell you I could come up with allot of reasons why I did what I did. But Bottom line is I messed up and let down my guard. I walked off the desk and went towards the holding room to release this guy and he started going off about a set of keys that was released to his friend. He was just going off. I tried to get him under control and finally had to call for a few patrolmen to help restrain him. Well here we go, I go in there with 2 MP's and this guy comes at me he breaks free and decks me in the eye and then tossed me over his head my feet hit the light and then hit the wall. Took 6 MP's to get this guy under control. During the fight he bitten one MP in the arm. Hell 14 yrs in law enforcement and never had my face hit was always on guard. The Being on the desk for 2 yrs and not really in harms way I got laxed and I paid a small price my pride and a black eye. Could have been bad this guy would have mopped up the floor with me. Thank God it was at shift change and I had tons of help in the station it would have been really bad if it would have been after shift change and I had only one or two MP'S in the station. Word of the wise. They are subjects until they walk out the door and out of your station and should be treated as such. I will not make the same mistake again I tell you. Keep the faith and my the ST Michael watch over you and yours. Sgt. Ronald R Slavin Ft Stewart, Military Police

Can you beleive this?

While working one dark summer Georgia night I happened to be at the PD when a man came in and stated that there was an Officer sitting in the car in the parking lot and was afraid to get out of the car.

Upon hearing this strange statement I went out to the parking lot where I found a Ga state Corrections officer (uniforms are similar to ours) sitting in her car with her hands on the steering wheel looking like she had just seen a ghost.

I asked this person what was the problem at which time she stated that she had been driving down the road and that every time she hit a bump in the road she could hear a rattle coming from under the seat.

I told this person to open the door and she stated that she was scared that it was a rattle snake and that she did not want to get bit. I reached over and opened her door and told her to throw her seatbelt off and jump out real quick. After she got out of the car I got my flashlight out and looked under the vehicle's seat (like the brave policeman that I am).

Under the seat I found a coffee cup with some loose change in it. I took the coffee cup out from under the seat and told the Corrections Officer that I had gotten the snake out of her car and that she would be safe now. The Officer thanked me and went on her way.

I look back on this incident and chuckle but at the same time I feel good that I was able to keep this woman safe by taking the coffe cup out from under her seat.

This Tale was submitted by: Cpl Dennis Ellison #154 of the Hinesville Police Dept.

The second Tale comes in!!!!!!

While Dennis was still a Training-Officer, He brought one of the rookies home one day while he had to change uniforms because his had gotten wet from directing traffic in the rain.

Well, while he had changed I conversed a little with the officer and after asking him how he liked his new job he answered that he liked it, but that it was hard for him. Even so the ?Bossie? (Dennis) was extra nice and explained everything so good, he could not remember the next day what went on during all those incidents. He further stated, that he was not prepared for all the paperwork and that he had chosen this profession because he seen on TV how an officer was almost always revered. But he had never seen that there was any paperwork included.

He did not like it, that they had to go through (at that time only) 6 weeks of training and study at the Police Academy and told me word for word that he became a cop because they drove in air conditioned cars and harassed people whenever they felt like it and got their respect that way. And instead of writing all that information on the tickets (which he could never remember) he thought writing speeding or whatever the offense was and collecting the money right away from the offenders was all he had to do. I thought he was joking, but when I looked in his face, I knew that he was very sincere and when he told me that all he ever wanted to do was riding all over town (no dumb beats which he also could not remember) in a luxury car with one arm out the window, being admired by the girls and women and do whatever he felt like.

I couldn't hold back my laughter and had to leave my living-room. I felt sorry for Dennis because he really tried hard to produce a valuable officer for the pd and I think this man was his biggest challenge and of course he could never win it. The officer was asked to resign shortly thereafter. To this date we still hear people talking once in awhile about the mentally deranged cop at HPD. ( By the way the man also told me that my husband was a very good man and a good ?Bossie? and that he wanted to just like him and train other officers.)
