Objective
To comprehend important plot and character elements Act 1, Scene 2 of the Tempest.
To translate Shakespeare's text into modern, simple English
Materials
Opening Motivational Set

Looking over the picture of Miranda watching the Boat, by.......?
What must she be thinking?
Predict her reaction to all this.

Procedure:

1.  Read Act 1, Scene 2 of the Tempest  orally, up to the part where Miranda sleeps.
(students take parts assigned to them the previous day)

2.  Begin the "Translating Factory", by having students take one of the  Translating the scene cards.
As students finish putting the section into modern English, they move to help other students.
When all students have finished we reread the scene in Modern English

3.  Continue reading the scene orally until the end of the Scene

4.  Distribute questions 
a)  five minutes alone, then they can move to finish with a partner.

5.  Take up the questions
 

6.  Work on their title page drawings (title page to the unit package) and ask them to include this scene.
