Materials
Opening Motivational Set

For #2 discuss Hilter's view, tone, and effect, then compare it to the author's tone, and Peter's more innocent tone.

Procedure:

1.   Silent Reading for 15 minutes.

2.   Take up the focus questions from last day.   click here.

--->  Does author really believe Whites are "way ahead" of the Aboriginals?
--->  What beliefs do Mary and Peter carry with them from Charleston?

3.    Begin vocabulary chart for "Australian words"

Classified as follows:   Plants;   Animals;    Environment;    Native Words; 
Definitions included.
As students finish with #4 they can come up and add to chart.
 

4..   For "library book" evaluation, students take 10 questions they prepared and they interview and grade their partner (chosen at random)

Homework is below.
 

Followup/ Evaluation: 

Read chapters 8-10.  Draw a plot line with at least 6 important events for those 3 chapters.  Below the line, explain the importance of each event.
