Objective
To respond to literature, expressing sympathy for a character.
To explain cultural differences and internal conflicts in the character Mary.
Materials
Opening Motivational Set:   Discuss my own changes after a great journey.
Procedure:

1.  Silent Reading for 15 minutes. 

2.  Go over questions from last day, emphasizing character development, setting and conflict with nature.  10-15 minutes.

3.  Journal Entry #2 for Walkabout. 
"What would you be thinking, feeling, doing, if you were in Mary and Peter's situation yourself?"  (10  minutes with discussion)

4.  Orally read next chapter, discussing question about major differences below.
              (10 minutes)

5.   Silent Reading and work on vocabulary words and study questions (below) for next day.

  • Finish reading to chapter 7
  • Finish questions and vocabulary
  • Have 10 questions prepared for interviewing another student about book.
