S t o r i e s     w i t h i n     a     s t o r y
Objectives:
  • ---->  To produce an collecton of various work students have presented throughout the year.
  • ---->  To tie the work together in such a way as to create a narrative, a kind of multi-genre novella

  •  

     

    Contents:
      4 poems, a short story, an essay, 2 original illustrations,
    all tied together by a "greater narrative"

    1.  A solidly bound book, with illustrations, a hard back, typed pages, table of contents, etc.

    Presentation Marking Scheme:
    (10 percent of total FIE mark)
     
    Criteria Mark on ten Comments
    .10 for first impression of appearence of whole project (Yes I can judge a book by its cover) . .
    .10 for visually pleasing balance of interior components  . .
    .10 for effective use of materials . .
    .10 for organization such that it is easily read . .
    .10 for the extra fine tuning and effort to ensure a good presentation.  (additions such as borders, etc.) . .

    Four  poems
    The poems should show evidence of some or all of the elements of poetry discussed throughout the poetry unit.  The poems should be edited in such a way as to consider spelling, grammar, rhyme and rhythm, such that the poem remains true to its own intentions and reads well when spoken.

    A short story

  • The short story should show evidence of a the components of fiction we have discussed in class, as well as notions of conflict.
  • Short Story Marking Scheme
    (30 or 20 percent of FIE )
    .Criteria .Mark on 10 Comments.
    .Descriptions, including setting and imaginary descriptions . .
    .Character portrayal, including descriptions of characters and their personality shown through their actions. . .
    .Effective use of a build up of events to a climax, including a "problem" event to begin story, middle developing events, leading to a climax. . .
    .Climax itself, and how well the main character ultimately develops as climax reveals final moments of the story.  Marks for effective peak to action here as well.
    .Writing style, including a fluid, creative,  and clear organization and presentation of the story line, events, feelings, etc. . .
    . Originality of ideas and creativity in terms of content.
    . Effective use of the genre of story (similar to originality, but related specifically to the type of story you are writing, and how well you pulled it off.
    .Grammar and spelling mark. 
    (0.25 of a mark off for each spelling or obvious grammar mistake)

    Mark is based on above requirements, writing style, originality of thought, and effectiveness of placement of the extra narrative.
