was built on:
the lyrics of Ang Pasko ay Sumapit, a Filipino
Christmas Carol,
and
an artwork depicting the Filipino Christmas,
as visualized by the streetchildren of the Laura Vicuna Foundation, Inc.
taken from a Christmas card given to me about three years ago.

The Laura Vicuna Foundation, Inc., run by the Salesian sisters,
cares for the streetchildren of the Philippines through its complex of shelters.
When this site was begun, my primary motive was to share
to the world the wonders of the Filipino Christmas. I had the
unfortunate experience of being away from my country on a Christmas
Day, and I commiserate with millions of Filipino workers who have
to go through the same experience.
This site has now become much more than an educational experience.
This site is dedicated to the Filipino streetchild, who, because of his impoverished lot,
is forced to be content as an observer and an outsider to the sights,
sounds and celebrations of this grandest of Filipino Holidays.
Though many kind souls remember them at Christmastime, much
remains to be done to improve their lives and enable them to
live truly fruitful lives even beyond Christmas Day.
