In the year 2000 A.D. a tragedy strikes earth that will forever change human history. A giagantic meteorite from space slams into the frozen continent of Antarctica, melting the polar ice caps. The ocean levels rise, and entire cities are engulfed. Panic and fear accompanies death and horror as humanity is thrown into a struggle for survival. This incident is known as Second Impact. Now in the year 2015 A.D. the scars left upon human kind begin to heal, only to be re-opened by a new threat. Mysterious beings called "Angels" suddenly start appearing. With no obvious intent, these grotesque looking things only leave destruction in their path. The military is completely ineffective, and it seems there is no way to destroy these invaders. Enter Nerv. An orginazation sanctioned by the U.N., Nerv's only purpose is to destroy the Angels. And they have a weapon to do it with. The Artifical Life Form Evangelion. A gigantic robot able to match the awesome power of the Angels. However, there is one simple catch. These robots can only be piloted by fourteen year old children. Enter Shinji Ikari. The son of the commander of Nerv, is sent a summons by his estranged father, who abandoned him at an early age. Not entirely sure why he came or for the reasons of his summons, Shinji is thrown into the middle of a chaotic situation. He arrives at Nerv Headquarters escorted by the Chief of Operations, Captian Misato Katsuragi. Told by his heartless father that he is to become the designated pilot of Evangelion Unit 01, Shinji becomes confused by the events at hand. However, he gets inside the cockpit to battle the Angel, his enemy. But who is the real enemy? A mysterious orginazation called Nerv with many secrets and a hidden agenda. An enigmatic robot known to go out of control and bezerk. Alien invaders with no origin or purpose. A puzzling girl named Rei with no past. A powerful comittee named Seele. Speculation and rumors about the events behind the Second Impact. And finally, a top secret project known only as the Human Instrumentality Project. Shinji must deal with all these factors on top of his own personal emotions. This is Neon Genesis Evangelion. |
