Produced by director Anno Hideaki and Studio Gainax, Neon Genesis: Evangelion is a series like no other. Taking place in the year 2015, fifteen years after the global tragedy called Second Impact, earth is being invaded by mysterious aliens known only as Angels. An orginazation called Nerv has developed a weapon to use against this enemy. Simply called, "Evangelion" these giant robots are the only way to defeat the Angels. However, these mechanized beings carry their own curse. They are only able to be piloted by 14 year old children. Shinji Ikari is one such child. Being reunited with his estranged father and forced into the cockit of Evangelion Unit 01, he tries to fight the Angels. But with the mysterious technology behind the Evangelions, the enigmatic arrival of the Angels, and the speculation of events behind Second Impact it seems there is more than just the preservation of the human race in Nerv's agenda... Its hard to describe this series in any amount of words, however the terms "amazing," "awesome," "unusual," and "remarkable" come to mind. Expertly mixing action, science fiction, drama, and an unsual blend of heavy religious tones this is a show that must be seen to be understood. The paragraphs I wrote above don't do this series justice. It is much, much deeper than it seems at first, concentrating on the relationships between the characters, and on a higher level, man's relationship with god. It seems this series was put together as a catharsis for director Anno Hideaki, and it reflects his owns emotions, thoughts, and visions. Watch with an open mind.
