The Second in Command at Nerv has his own personal reasons for being involved, but he still has reservations about the projects.
The protege of Dr. Akagi aspires to become a great scientist. Unlike Ritsuko however, she has a human compassion, and her own moral values are put on the line.

As one of Shinji's classmates and friends, Touji acts tough on the outside, but is really a nice person on the inside. He also has a short lived career as the pilot of Unit 03.
Never without his video camera by his side, Kensuke is one of Shinji's friends and classmates. Not much is known about him, other than that he is a huge military fanatic.
Hikari is a friends of Asuka and the class represenative (president). She has feelings for Touji, and always seem annoyed by immaturity and lack of respect.
Kaworu comes into the scene in the 24th episode. There is nothing known about him except for the fact that he syncronizes extremely well with the Eva. Shinji immedietly befriends Kaworu, and put his trust in him. However, the fifth child is not all he seems to be...
Misato's pet is a "warm water" penguin. He lives inside a fridge, likes to eat fish and read the newspaper. He's the cute character of the series.
