Kaji accompanties Asuka and Unit 02 from Germany to Japan. He was sent to investigate the actvities of Nerv, but he seems to become used by Nerv for their own purposes. He is the former college boyfriend of Misato and it seems they still have feeling for each other. Kaji is nice, upbeat, and likes to joke. However, he is also a wise and deep person.
