    This section had been intended to direct you to those "organisations" there to offer you support. The case we have outlined on this site shows you are on your own, make no mistakes, rely solely on your own efforts, rely on no-one but yourself. The following is an attempt to help you avoid some of the pitfalls in making a complaint to the authorities. Whatever you do, first and foremost keep a diary, take notes of everything, times, dates, everything no matter how trivial, we cannot emphasise this enough.

I am suffering harassment & racial abuse, but what can I do ?

    First & foremost keep notes of everything that happens. Amongst the things you need to do are to note the date, the time and your location. Be specific. If your at home, say exactly where you were (living room, bedroom for instance). Was there anybody there with you ? Make notes of that too, an independant witness may be able to corroborate your version of events, remember to state the location of the witness as well. Make detailed notes of what happened, no matter how trivial it may seem, it may be important at a later date. Did you recognise any of the perpetrators ?

     From the case outlined on this site you will realise that video tapes provide strong evidence. If you are in fear of abuse or harassment consider this option. Many Do It Yourself stores sell security cameras, normally alongside other security devices such as locks and bolts and burglar alarms. Prices vary, and can be from as low as £ 60-00 though the average price seems to be around £ 100-00. They are comparatively easy to install and can normally be attached to an ordinary domestic video recorder. Consider the best location to install it, this will have a bearing on the type of camera which you buy. Always buy a camera that has a built in microphone. This has the advantage that not only can it be seen what has happened, it can also be heard.
    Whatever you do, tell no-one of the existance of these cameras unless you have to.
    In the event of criminal damage, no matter how small, always report this to the Police Force and obtain a crime reference number. Make notes of times and dates, and if possible who you spoke to at the Police Station.

Who Can I Turn To For Help ?

    You should be able to approach a number of support agencies operated by Police, Local Authority or so called independant agencies. NOTE !!!! it is possible these agencies liaise, the information you give to one may well be shared with another, What Protection Does That Agency Give To Protect Your, THE VICTIMS, Identity.

    The Home Office has a site at;

    http://www.crime-prevention.org.uk/home_office/guide/family/prraci2.htm

    The advice there pre-supposes that racists and those that condone racist behaviour do not operate within the support systems. You will by now have seen this site in its entirity, (if you have followed the links from the main index page), and only you can make the decision as to whom you approach. Ultimately you will have to approach your Local Police Force, even though many of them admit to "institutionalised racism", armed with the evidence you have obtained. Whatever you do, do not attend the Police Station alone, take someone with you who can understand what is happening, make a note of those Police who you have had contact with, and always remember to obtain a receipt for any evidence you leave at the Police Station.

Why Have You Not Provided Contact Addresses On This Site ?
    We may provide contact names and addresses at a later date. However at the minute we will say that the more information is disseminated, the greater chance it has to find its way into the hands of those who would use that information against you. It is essential that you establish which organisations will be party to the information you supply, and remember, there is no rule to say that racists, harassers and their supporters do not work in organisations that are there supposedly to help you. Never rush into things, always consider your position carefully ........ and then think again.
