Despite
the fact that the planet Naboo is ruled by a queen, it
is not a hereditary monarchy -- the monarch is elected.
After the world's King Veruna abdicated his
throne, the planet needed a new leader. At the tender
age of 12, Amidala, who was raised by humble parents
in a small mountain village, was crowned the princess
of Theed (Naboo's capitol city). Surprisingly though, she
is not the youngest monarch ever to reign on Naboo.
Two years after
becoming a princess,
not long before the
events of The
Phantom Menace, Amidala was coronated
queen. 
The
future Emperor
Palpatine is indeed Naboo's
representative
in the Galactic Senate, However, Naboo is not the only world
that Palpatine represents: He is the senator for a quadrant
of 366 worlds. Although he was born on Naboo, Palpatine
had only met Amidala once before the events of The
Phantom Menace.
Furthermore,
there is some friction
between the
queen and the senator, since Amidala has the
impression
that Palpatine is more interested bolstering his
political
standing than advancing the will of those he
represents
(Palpatine didn't get along with King Veruna
either
though, it seems). , Palpatine appears to be a quiet and unassuming
man, but he also prefers to take action in a situation
rather than waste time bickering in debate. Still, patience
is his greatest virtue, and we all know where that gets
him later in the prequel trilogy..
amidala
...like the jedi ...is unaware of the true evil that is behind the
invasion of her planet. 
She shows no fear when confronting the nimodian vicroy Nute Gunray via
transmissions to his controll ship which heads the blockade that surrounds
her tiny green planet. 
Yet as further transmissions to coruscent are disrupted,
she begins to realize that this is no longer a simple dispute over taxation
of trade routes....It is an invasion. 
She
stands sollemly by her window as the droid armies enter the royal city
of theed, occuping her court yard with battle tanks. 
Amidala is rescued by the jedi
qui-gon jinn and obi-wan
kenobi who were sent as her ambassadors to settle the dispute, but
were met with the same
treachery,
but manged to escape to the planets surface. There, qui-gon jinn
suggests that amidala go to corruscent to plead her case to the senate.
Amidala,
who is diguised as one of her handmaidens padame at the time of the rescue....informs
her decoy that she is in favour of the jedi's suggestion. The jedi
quickly deal with the droidz who have taken over the hanger bay and detained
her royal pilots. Her royal star ship blasts out of the hanger and
into the awaiting control ships that form the blockade around the planet. 
Encountering heavey fire, the ships hyper drive is damaged, astro
mechs are dispatched routinely to repair the ship. 
One
by one the mechs are blasted away screaming by the controll ships heavy
blaster cannons, all but one droid, who manages to by pass the power cuplinks
and sends the queens ship blasting past the control ship. 
Inside,
captain panaka presents the droid before the queen.....revealing that the
droid is infact r2-d2....the queen ask's her loyal handmaiden padme to
clean the droid as it desearves their gratitude. the queen is then
informed that the hyper-drive has been damaged and will have to be fixed
on a planet which is not under federation control, the jedi suggest a small
planet called tatooine....captain panaka does not agree with the jedi,
as the planet is controlled by the mobsters the hut's.
Upon
arrival on tatooine, much to the reluctance of qui-gon jinn...padme joins
him r2-d2
and jar jar on his quest for parts in a neighbouring settlement. 
Qui-gon
decides to go to one of the smaller shops, a parts shop run by a blue toydarian
named watto, who takes qui-gon in the back to find his parts. There,
padme hears a young voice ask her
Are you an angel ?
it is the voice of the young
slave boy annikin skywalker. padame
is surprised that annikin is a slave, believing that slavery had been abolished
in the galaxy,
annikin is
not happy about being refered to as a slave and states that he is a human,
and his name is annikin. Qui gon returns unhappy and states that
they are leaving , without the parts...
Qui gon reports back to obi-wan via comlink that the toydarian will not
take republic credits, and finds out that there is nothing to use as trade
on the ship.....little more than
the queens wardrobe.
The three meet
annikin again in the streets after jar jar foolishly gets into a fight
with pod racer sebulba.
As a sand storm begins to swell, annikin invites them to his house to wait
out the storm. There after meeting annikins mom, shmi..... padme
is quickly whisked off by annikin to see the protocol droid he is building
for his mom, named c-3po.
Over dinner, annikin devises
a plan for them to win the money for their parts by racing in the boonta
eve pod-race. the next day, amidala is worried about trusting
their fate to a boy they hardly know....but
qui-gon sences the stenght of the force in young annikin..and simply states
that she must trust his judgement.
padme is again unnearved when she learns later that annikin has
never finished a race...let alone won one.......
padme
stands beside annikins mother as the race begins and voices her discontent
with qui-gon's recklessness. Yet as the race plays out and
finishes....padme is one of the first to hold and hug the young pod racer...thanking
him, saying we owe
you everything
As they return to their ship with their new parts,
qui gon returns for annikin who he has free'd through a side bet with watto,
annikins owner.
upon
their return, qui gon and annikin are ambushed by the dark knight darth
maul on his sith speeder,
annikin runs to the ship, informing them to take off, as they leave ....they
swoop by and rescue qui gon and blast away from the planet and on to coruscent.
they land on the vast city planet,
they are greeted by senator palpatine and chancellor vallorum. padme
then returns to her role as queen amidala
and prepares
for her meeting with the galactic senate. 
she
sits waiting, listening to
palpatine, who tells her of the corruption
in the senate, and that chancellor vallorum is little more than a figure
head in the senate, and that the federation has the true controll.....that
the naboo may have to face controll by
the federation in the time being, unless
amidala calls for a vote of no confidence in chancellor valorums leadership.
Once
inside the vast senate chamber,amidala pleads her case to the senate which
is quickly argued down as having no proof
of the occupation by the
senators representing
the nimodians.....who in turn call for a commission to be sent to naboo
to investigate the accusations, chancellor vallorum discusses the
situation with his aids, who palpatine whispers to amidala are really federation
agents....chancellor vallorum asks if amidala will
differ as a commision is formed to investigate her claims...amidala
boldly, yet nievely states that she will
not differ...that she was not elected to watch her people suffer and die
while they discuss this in a commitee, if chancellor valorum will not act,
then perhapse it is time for new leadership, and casts her vote of no confidence
in chancellor vallorums athority....the
senate errupts with a call to vote now..
.in
amidala's eye's a great sence of fear and helplessness shows across her
face.
Later
in her chambers, amidala stands by her window looking out over the night
sky of coruscent, contemplating her next move and the fate of her planet,
jar jar stands beside her, and asks if she thinks her people are going
to die.....I don't
know she says in a low flat tone,
jar jar reassures her that the gungans will not go down with out a fight,
that they are warriors with a grand army.
there a sparkle lights up amidala's eye's as she quitely devises her plan
to win back her planet. just the panaka and palpatine enter the room,
extatic about
the announcement of palpatines nomination to succeed chancellor vallorum,
palpatine states that naboo's situation will cast
a strong sympathy vote in his favour and
that he is sure of his being elected.
there
amidala informs him that she has decided
to return to naboo, that her
fate will be the fate of her peoples because it is obvious the the
senate no longer functions. Once on board her ship, qui gon and panaka
state that they have little idea why the queen is returning and state she
will be killed if she returns. Amidala then calls jar jar binks,
and begins to tell them all of her plan, that with the assisence of the
gungan army to distract the droid army, the queen the jedi and a small
band of her gaurds will infiltrate the city
through the
sectret passages ways by the waterfalls, there they will hunt down the
vicroy and force him to give back control to amidala, meanwhile what few
pilots are left will attack the control ship and render the droids on the
surface useless.
once
landing on naboo, jar jar leaves to find the gungans....he returns to tell
her the cities are empty, but they must be in the sacred place. amidala
is disguised as padme as they follow jar jar to the gungans hiding place.
as amidalas decoy begins to plead their case to boss nass, padme breaks
in and announces finally that she is queen amidala, that her loyal body
gaurds are by no means a deception on their part, but a royal necessity.
There amidala gets down on her knees and begs the gungan leader for his
help. With a loud laugh and alott of slobber, boss nass annouces
he likes that the naboo do not consider themselves superior to the gungans
afterall....and agree's to do his part to immobalize the droid army.
as
the gungan army assembles on the vast green battle fields... amidala
, the jedi and a small band of gaurds enter the city amidala gives
the signal and a swift cannon immobalizes on of the tanks in the square,
the jedi flank amidala on either side slicing droids as they head towards
the hanger, amidala with her royal blaster in hand does her part
feircly and with incredible accuracey....... blasting droids who are stationed
in the hanger, ordering her pilots to get to their ships, naboo fighters
begin to fly over their heads and out of the hanger as the battle continues.
when they reach the doors to the palace, amidala stopps short as the doors
suddenly open to reveal a lone dark cloaked figure. Darth
Maul amidala is frozen in her
footsteps for a moment until qui gon speaks up from behind....
we'll handle this....
.amidala
turns with the rest of her gaurds to find another way into the palace as
three destroyer droids quickly roll up from nowhere, unravel, shield themselves
and blast away at the queen and her guard as they run for cover.
annikin who was hiding in a naboo fighter, gradually figures out the controlls
to the weapons and easily takes care of the destroyer droids, amidala and
her guard safely run to the doors leading to the palace as annikins ship,
which is on auto pilot blasts out of the hanger and off to the battle outside
the planet.
amidala
and her guards encounter legions of troops in the corridors of her palace,
panaka blasts out a window and covers the queen as they step out onto the
ledge. they fire assention guns which carry them up to the top floor
of the palace, where the vicroy is hiding. they run down the hall,
but are quickly set upaon by droids and destroyers, amidala commands her
troops to put down their weapons, that the droids
have won this round.
the
droids then take amidala and her guards to the vicroy who waits in the
royal chambers.
Your little insurection is at an end your highness
he states, but is interrupted by the queens decoy who fires at the vicroy,
gunray orders his droids to capture the queen, thinking that amidala is
just a decoy, as the vicroy is disracted , amidala presses a button on
her throne, relealing a secret compartment in the arm that holds two blasters,
she throws one to panaka, and the both destroy what's left of the droids
in the room, seal the doors. Amidala points her blaster at nute gunray
and say's now we shall discuss a new
treaty vicroy.
above the planet, annikin has
destroyed the control ship, and is on his way back to the planet to celebrate
with the rest of the fighter pilots....yet, deep within the palace,,
qui gon jinn lies dead from the leathal blow of the dark knight darth maul,
who was in turn killed by obi-wan kenobi.
The
jedi council arrive on the planet naboo with
the galactic senators who have come to arrest the nimodians. the
jedi are there for the funeral of their fallen comrad qui-gon-jinn....who
is cerimonially creamated on naboo.
the next day, all of naboo celebrates their liberation and new found
unity.
a huge parade
marches through the city, it's guests of honour are the gungan leaders
boss nass and the hero and newly elected general jar jar binks.
they dismout
their fahmbas and walk joyously up the steps to be greeted by queen amidala
and the jedi. queen amidala hands the glowing ball of peace to boss
nass, who takes it in hand, holds it over his head happily annoucing peace
into the already extactic crowd.
