The aftermath of their final encounter with Per Degaton (this tale takes place immediately after America versus the Justice Society #4) left them all dazed and confused.  Despite their long standing enmity with the criminal, the Justice Society of America had always upheld respect for life above else...and watching the desperate fiend take his own life was a bit unsettling.

The rest of the members left Dick Grayson and the Huntress alone, realizing that closure was needed between these two.  Having recently dueled in a courtroom, tearing down not only each other's arguments but, ultimately, each other's principles...healing was in order.

After explaining how her father, Bruce Wayne, had left clues behind in his diary to reveal Degaton's sinister plan to reclaim his time machine and finally conquer the world, Dick felt at ease that his mentor's intentions were good.  With tears in their eyes, they hugged and parted, they new time was necessary to build their trust in one another again.

Power Girl, standing at a distance, approached the Huntress as her step-brother walked away from the grouping.  With concern in her eyes, the Kryptonian Maiden asked her friend, "Is something the matter, you keep staring at that time machine.  Are you lost in thought, or…"

The Huntress interrupts, "No, no, its not that.  Something has me perplexed, though!  Remember how we pieced together that dad discovered Degaton's plans with the help of his scientist friend?  Something is missing, a piece of the puzzle is still out there!  It's almost as if dad had a personal agenda with Degaton, like they had met before?  But Degaton never met Bruce Wayne…"

"Perhaps he met the Batman?", Power Girl chimed in, " But when?  Your dad wasn't a full-time member of the JSA in the 1940's or 50's, was he?"

"No, but now that I think about it...I remember once bringing up to dad, I think when I was 17, how I'd like to be a crimefighter like him.  He protested, "I forbid it!  I've seen to many young women killed trying to be something they are not!"  Of course, mom wasn't there or she would have told him a thing or two.  But then, he recalled an adventure that he, Dick and Superman had, where they teamed up with two mystery-women.  He said they perished in battle with some "time-based" crooks, their bodies were never recovered.  Now, we have a time machine, a time mystery, and a personal interest in my dad and your cousin, so…"

"WAIT A SECOND!!!  You aren't suggesting that WE were those two!!!  Why on Krypton would we go back in time, to stop Degaton?"

The Huntress replied, "I'm not sure, but I believe that we MUST go back in time, to resolve whatever situation he created.  Call it a hunch, but something inside tells me our futures hangs in the balance...and not just ours, but perhaps the future of the planet!"

At this time, Doctor Mid-Nite, with the help of emerald blankets, wraps the bodies of Degaton and his victim (who he had slain decades before) Professor Zee.  Then, he calls out to his teammates, "We probably should leave, before an even bigger crowd arrives than is already here!"

Hawkman agrees, "Yes, everyone, let us return to JSA headquarters.  Starman, would you mind towing Degaton's time machine back to HQ and there we can…"

"HAWKMAN...if you wouldn't mind, Kara and I want to stay behind and look over the evidence still here before anything is moved.  Just to close the file on this case, that is," the Huntress quickly comments.

"Very well," Hawkman replies, "Power Girl, please bring the time machine back shortly.  I don't want to take any chances of leaving it in the open.  It is a dangerous device!"

"Yeah, yeah...I hear you," Power Girl answers defiantly.

As the assembled heroes depart through various means, Power Girl looks to her friend again and asks, "Now, are you serious about this whole "Back-to-the-future" adventure?"

The Huntress responds, "Absolutely.  However, we'll need to create other identities for ourselves, if we call ourselves the Huntress and Power Girl, than decades later, when we first appear for real, the JSA will get all paranoid over our safety.  Unfortunately, there are no records of that adventure at JSA HQ, as it was not a JSA adventure...and I don't want to ask Dick...he'll REALLY get paranoid!"

Power Girl, fingers propping up her chin with a pensive look on her face, declares, "Okay, then let's just whip up a couple of costumes and identities from scratch.  Whatever we decide NOW will be what we were THEN.   Let's see…you like to creep around at nighttime and in shadows…how about NIGHTSHADE!  You could wear cool masks, blue and purple colors seem to go well for you…but you'll DEFINITELY need a little more material outfit.  I don't think you'd get away with a swimsuit like you do nowadays!"

"Ha ha, very funny! ", the Huntress snaps back.  "Okay, how about you use Black Canary as your inspiration…except instead of canary, how about a flower, since she was a professional florist.  Like the Black Rose or…I got it…the Black Orchid!  You'll definitely need a mask, though.  Superman's "super-memory" would remember your face when your rocket arrives on Earth later."

"Agreed, I'll make 'em right away," Power Girl says, and she flies off, then returns with two new costumes (which she stitched together at superspeed).

"GREAT DESIGNS!  So shall we go?  Remember, Hawkman gave us orders to…"

"Ah, Hawkman can kiss my…"

And while the heroine's continue to banter, as they enter Professor Zee's time machine, a shadowy figure observes from a distance.  He thinks to himself, "These women do not realize the Pandora's box they are opening!  Soon all my years of waiting, setting my carefully laid plans in motion, will be rewarded!  They may stop Degaton and his temporal allies, but in so doing they will leave open the key…the key toward my revenge against the Justice Society for the injury they caused my form so long ago!  Soon, Hypertime will have a new master…Ian Karkull…and then I will have destroyed ALL Justice Societies, the one of this planet and the original!!!  BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
