This is a very disturbing book.
It recounts what the author, a journalist, found out about an alleged code in the Bible. To be honest, I was very skeptical about this theory. To think that there is a code in the Old Testament predicting future events à la Nostradamus was too big of a scam, at first, to be believed. I had also a problem with believing that a book relating events that occurred so long before it was actually written could predict future events. By then end of the book, I was totally convinced it was true. I even convinced a friend who is even more skeptical about this kind of theories than me to read it, so disturbed I was and so enthralled by what it suggested. To think that the Bible enclosed such warnings as the assassination of Yitzah Rabin and of Benjamin Netanyahu and that it could be prevented was very appealing. The author even tries to emit theories about the person or being who inserted the code in the Old Testament, it's interesting.
We talked about the book among friends and the common comment was "it is very disturbing."
For those who think that the code is actually true, it's fine by me. However, keep in mind this has been proven a hoax. Any book over a certain number of pages can be used with the same results. It is a question of probabilities and statistics.
Whatever your religious opinion or beliefs are, you should read it, as pure curiosity.
Please, keep in mind this is only a review of a book I think is entitled to be talked about. It does not reflect my religious beliefs and I will not be drawn in any discussion on religion.....
Another thing, I read this non-fiction book in its French version, I didn't realize it had been written by an American journalist at the time I bought it. In French, it was very easy to read, even an article in Le monde is more difficult to read because of the style, if you see what I mean. As, in general, translations reflect the original version, I would have a tendency to think that the original version is as badly written!
