Seven years after Dr. Hannibal Lecter escaped his prison killing 5 persons in the process, Starling is still in the FBI. Her carreer is stuck thanks to the jealousy of Paul Krendler who still resents her for finding the Daughter of a U.S. Senator before he did. Thus, she's given on special occasions to different branches of the FBi or even the police.

On one such occasion, she teams up with John Bringhman, one of her best friends, and other people from different entities. They are supposed to arrest a drug dealer. Clarice Starling has been called because she has had encouters with Evelda Drumgo in the past and knows her behavior well. They approached the premises where she is. Starling asks her to come nicely but suddenly shots erupt and she sees her best friend killed on the spot as well as another officer while Evelda carrying her baby hide in a car. Starling asks her to put down her guns, but Evelda decides otherwise; before getting killed Starling shoots her, running to get the baby away from all the HIV blood coming from his dead mom. Meanwhile a news helicopter is filming everything. To the layman's eyes, it looks like Starling shoots a mother, while the profesionals know that she shot because Evelda had weapons hidden bellow the baby.

Starling is under investigation. At that moment, Hannibal Lecter sends her a sympathysing letter.

Mason Verger, one of Hannibal's victim, has been on the lookout for Hannibal for the past seven years. Thanks to him, Starling is not suspended and can conduct her own investigation to find him. They know for sure that Hannibal has his sixth finger removed in Brazil. And Verger knows that Hannibal is Florence. He has hired the meanest mafiosi and has bred pigs which would eat human beings if starved enough. The pigs are supposed to do the whole job while a tape is recorded. Unfortunetely for Verge, Hannibal kills the police officer who sold him to Verger as well as one of the mafiosi and leaves the country.

Meanwhile, Starling continues the investigation and is on the look out for Hannibal through his expensive taste. That's all i'm giving you folks, if you want to read it :)

I personally didn't like it as much as i liked the Red Dragon. The descriptions are boring, the style is not as great as previously and there is no real fear reading it. I really had a bad time reading Red Dragon, it was very very frightening, this one is not even gory. My advice: it can be borrowd at the library, no need to buy it.
