Bridget Jones' Diary: The Edge of Reason By Helen Fielding
No review for the first novel since I have not read it (but I will, I promise:) ). I saw the movie a couple of weeks ago and loved it; since I had seen it, I preferred to read the sequel instead of reading what I have just seen at the movies.
The book starts about a month after the end of the first novel. Bridget is STILL with Mark Darcy, which is an accomplishment by itself, wouldn't you agree? I read the book in one night, which tells a lot to the degree of liking I have for this book.
Bridget is her old self, making the strangest comments at the weirdest times, showing all these conservatives why they are wrong in being conservatives. However, her trials are not over. Smart Rebecca is after Mark Darcy, the little brat. And Bridget is influenced by her friends. All in all a bad combination. Suddenly we see Mark and Bridget separating, which gives you a really bad feeling in the stomach because the only thing you want is to see them back together.
Okay, okay, I admit it, I feel much like Bridget Jones, probably the reason I loved the movie so much. Who cannot identify with a 30 year old singleton who smokes drinks and is looking for her knight in shining armor?
For the first time for a very long time, I actually giggled in my lonely bed just by reading a book. It's very bright, hilarious and there's the right mix of laughter and tears. And we all know how it ends, don't we.
They are succulent moments in this books as well as tearstained pages, weep weep for her trials in Thailand, the poor thing.
One advice, It's a must read. The movie is a must see even for a guy. It's not a chick book nor is it a chick flick. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.
One other advice, read it during the day because you won't be able to put it down :)
