| VOCODER |
 |
| Despite(or perhaps because of)extensive use by the artists as diverse as Herbie Hancock,ELO and Kraftwerk, vocoders became pretty unfashionable until their rediscovery by hip-hop and acid artists.Developed by German radio station, the vocoder allows the frequency pattern of a signal from a microphone to be combined with the waveforms of another pitched sound. The result can be singing violins, talking pianos, robot voices or a host of other unusual effects, depending on the nature of the input. |
