| UNISON |
| The facility by which all the oscillators of a polysynth can be assigned to a single key for very powerful monophonic sounds.Notably absent on the DX7,unison mode reached its mostear-shattering on the Memorymoog;six three-oscillator voices combining to create an eighteen-oscillator monosynth. In multi-timbral synths, assigning several monophonic tones to the same keyboard range can create a 'stacked' effect which is even more impressive than conventional unison sounds. |

| VCA |
| Voltage Controlled Amplifier. In analogue synthesis, the circuit which controls the volume of the sound, usually using levels set by the Envelopes,LFOs or other modulators. In digital systems,it is DCA. |
| VCF |
| Voltage Controlled Filter. In analogue synthesis, the circuit which sets the tone of the sound.Bt cutting out certain frequencies or bandwidths, the filter can create different tones. This kind of sound creation technique is known as Subtractive Synthesis for this reason.Filters can be controlled by envelopes,LFOs and othe modulators. In digital systems,it is DCF. |
| VCO |
| Voltage Controlled Oscillator. In analogue synthesis, the circuit which creates the raw sound.VCOs often produce different waveforms such as sine, squarewave and sawtooth. The results are processed through the VCF and VCA,and modulated by the LFO to create the overall sound. In digital systems,DCO. |

| VELOCITY RESPONSE |
| A MIDI parameter which relates to the velocity with which a keyboard is hit-usually derived by calculating ther speed with which the key travels downwards. For realistic playing effects,MIDI velocity is usually set to control the volume of the note produced;but for special effects, you can often program it to open up the filter, fade in another sound, speed up the attack or create other effects according to how hard you hit the keyboard. If you are using a MIDI sequencer, there needn't be a Continue |
