| HOME KEYBOARD |
| Anything which features a build-in amplifier and speaker can claim to be a 'home' rather than professional keyboard. The dividing lines are pretty blurred, though, since many home keyboards now offer the facilities of synthesizers, such as MIDI,editable sounds,multi-timbral operation and build-in sequencers and effects,in addition to the common home keyboard features like automatic bass, arpeggios and single- finger chords.Claims for dominance of the home keyboard market could be made by Casio,Yamaha |

| KAWAI |
| One of the world's largest musical instrument companies,Kawai has long been established in the piano market(both acoustic and electric).Experiments in the synth market, with K3 and K5,failed to set the world alight despite some excellent features.1988,though,may well have been the big breakthrough, with the launch of the K1,an extremely inexpensive 'samploid' synth, which like the Roland D50,combines digitally-sampled attack waveforms with synthesized sustains to create eerily realistic sounds. |
