Chapter #10

Thanksgiving and Christmas
Warning the following Chapter may be offensive!

What do we really celebrate on these holidays, are their roots really Christian or have we made them generic holidays? What have our children learned in school about these days? Let's start with Thanksgiving, it's roots are DEFINITELY Christian. When I attended school we learned a lot about how the Pilgrims came here and struggled to survive and how the Indians taught them how to plant and hunt. When the Pilgrims had their first Thanksgiving (Thanking God for His help), they invited the Indians to their feast that praised God. This is a historic fact, do you have any idea how this might be handled in school today so as not to be offensive? Bible Illustrator gives us this answer
Topic: Thanksgiving
I heard about a little fourth-grader who stood up to give a report concerning the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday. Here's how he began: The pilgrims came here seeking freedom of you know what. When they landed, they gave thanks to you know who. Because of them, we can worship each Sunday, you know where. God's Word says: Psa 86:12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.

The American Heritage Dictionary gives the following meaning: Thanksgiving Day n. 1. The fourth Thursday of November, observed as a legal holiday in the United States to commemorate the feast held at Plymouth in 1621 by the Pilgrim colonists and members of the Wampanoag people and marked by the giving of thanks to God for harvest and health.

On April 30, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln gave the following Proclamation for a National Day of Fasting, Humiliation and Prayer - taken from The Bible Illustrator.
We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven. We have been preserved, the many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.

Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self- sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to God that made us! It behooves us, then to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness. (These words apply to us even more today.)

Lincoln would roll over in his grave if he knew what was going on today. We can't mention GOD in our schools or give the real facts about Thanksgiving Day because it's O F F E N S I V E ! ! ! What do you think God thinks about this? A friend of mine wanted a license plate for his bike that said P R A Y, he was turned down because it was offensive.

We talk about Doctor Death (Jack Kevorkian) and how awful it is what he is doing. Yet we kill millions of unborn babies each year, and that's O K? We suck out their brains, alive, or cut them into little pieces and use a vacuum to take them out of their mothers womb, or inject saline solution into the womb that burns into them like acid and it's ok. What's wrong with us? About 50,000 people lose their lives each year on our highways due to drunk driving yet we are worried about second hand smoke.

Wake up America !

God said in -  2 Chr 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Christmas is suppose to be a celebration of the birth of Jesus. It was not celebrated at all in the early Church. It was started as a substitute for pagan holidays that were observed during December and has many pagan symbols in it. For two-hundred years we celebrated the story of Christmas in America, in our Churches, schools and had manager scenes on our town commons. These scenes are disappearing because they are offensive, doesn't the Constitution guarantee my right to freedom of religion? Maybe we should change it to exclude C H R I S T I A N I T Y, that's exactly what's happening in America today.

I pray that Jesus is the focus of these Holidays in your homes and that you are born-again, so that you can enter into the Kingdom of God.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

If you haven't already asked Jesus into your heart do it today. Pray to Him, ask Him to forgive your sins, (We are all sinners.) and to come into your heart and be your personel Saviour and Lord of your life, then thank Him. May God Bless all of you with Salvation.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS !
