Chapter #3
ALL SCRIPTURE
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." II Timothy 3:16
If you own a concordance please look up these and similar phrases. - LATTER YEARS - LATTER DAYS - LAST DAYS - END TIMES - TIME OF THE END - END OF TIME -- ETC: Now read the prophecy that goes with these statements, color them in yellow (WARNING COLOR). In a cross-reference Bible look up all references that deal with these prophetic passages, color them in yellow. Now look at the beginning of the book of Revelation and find where it begins to talk about future events and color it yellow from that point till the end. Now think about all the work you have just done. I bet you have missed many passages that deal with the end times, we will get back to them later. Now please think of how many times you have heard these portions of scripture preached on or taught in Sunday school or Church, probably never. If we are going to be raptured before the Tribulation begins why did God waste so much time on this subject? HE DIDN'T.
It isn't easy to preach week after week and touch on all subjects that are in the Word. The same goes for Sunday school, new people coming and going, people at all different levels of spirituality. And it's real easy for me to criticize them, but in a lot of areas I know where they are coming from and I am not condemning them. BUT, here we go.
Speaking in tongues, this is a area of great division in the body, you either believe in it or you don't, more on that later, if you believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues this is for you. I use to attend a Pentecostal Church, one week we had a well know speaker come in, he had a man with him that opened the service, we sang songs, it was real nice, then it happened, he told everyone to pray out loud in tongues. So what's the problem with that Dick?
1 Cor 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
1 Cor 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one
of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an
interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.
1 Cor 14:27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two,
or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
1 Cor 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let
him speak to himself, and to God.
I have seen this done on two occasions, and its wrong, as the scriptures above states. So why do most if not all the Pentecostal Churches violate these scriptures on a regular basis? Because we believe in speaking in tongues and the Bible states -
1 Cor 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
For the Fundamental, Independent Baptist who say, speaking in tongues is of the devil let me quote this last verse again.
1 Cor 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.
Oh please forgive me, I forgot, tongues have ceased.
1 Cor 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether
there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish
away.
1 Cor 13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
1 Cor 13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part
shall be done away.
Verse eight states that tongues will cease when verse ten comes to pass and you say it has because we have the Bible. Yes I agree with the fact that the Bible is perfect in the sense that it contains all the facts that we need to know. It is the infallible Word of God in the original text and I also believe that the King James (Although difficult at times) is the best translation available. So what's my problem with the fundamentalist's doctrine of tongues, well for starters to interpret any verse you should read it in context. So lets do that.
1 Cor 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts,
brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1 Cor 12:2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye
were led.
1 Cor 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by
the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord,
but by the Holy Ghost. (Pentecostals call Jesus Lord so if they are of
the devil what does that make the Holy Ghost?)
1 Cor 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
1 Cor 12:5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
1 Cor 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which
worketh all in all.
1 Cor 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1 Cor 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of
knowledge by the same Spirit;
1 Cor 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the
gifts of healing by the same Spirit; (Note verse one, chapter twelve deals
with spiritual gifts, in this verse faith is named as one of the spiritual gifts, if the
gifts are done way with because we have the Bible where do you get your faith from?)
1 Cor 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another
discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation
of tongues: (Are there still miracles?)
1 Cor 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man
severally as he will.
1 Cor 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that
one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body,
whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to
drink into one Spirit.
1 Cor 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many. (If certain Churches believe in tongues because the Bible says so and preach
you must be Born-Again, and Jesus is the only begotten Son of God and died on the Cross
for our sins and he is the only way - John 14:6 and He is King of Kings and He is Lord,
what body do they belong to - the devil?)
1 Cor 12:15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it
therefore not of the body?
1 Cor 12:16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is
it therefore not of the body?
1 Cor 12:17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were
hearing, where were the smelling?
1 Cor 12:18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath
pleased him.
1 Cor 12:19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
1 Cor 12:20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
1 Cor 12:21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the
head to the feet, I have no need of you.
1 Cor 12:22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are
necessary:
1 Cor 12:23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon
these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant
comeliness.
1 Cor 12:24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together,
having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
1 Cor 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members
should have the same care one for another. (Calling your Born - Again
brother of the devil, is that a schism?)
1 Cor 12:26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member
be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
1 Cor 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
1 Cor 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets,
thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps,
governments, diversities of tongues.
(We now have the Bible so miracles don't exist any more, is that right?)
1 Cor 12:29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of
miracles?
1 Cor 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
1 Cor 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent
way.
1 Cor 13:1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and
have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
1 Cor 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all
knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not
charity, I am nothing.
1 Cor 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to
be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
1 Cor 13:4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not
itself, is not puffed up,
1 Cor 13:5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked,
thinketh no evil;
1 Cor 13:6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1 Cor 13:7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all
things.
1 Cor 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail;
whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish
away.
1 Cor 13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
1 Cor 13:10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be
done away.
1 Cor 13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as
a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
Read this verse in the context of this chapter V E R Y carefully!
1 Cor 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in
part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
Verses 10-11-12 all go together and make perfect sense, we have the
Bible now, so, spiritual gifts are done away with. You see before I had the Bible I could
only see darkly but now I can look at it face to face (Just look) and I know everything
just like God knows everything about me. And all you fundamentals know everything too
because you can just look at the face of your Bibles and know every word and meaning,
isn't it great? That's insane, what these verses are saying is that we will see Him face
to face and there will be perfect knowledge.
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the
house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward
parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my
people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his
brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto
the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will
remember their sin no more.
Now do I have to remind you of New Jerusalem, you have heard of it right? If not this will give you a good idea plus you might notice the words see His face. Just like Paul wrote, face to face and then there will be no need of tongues, miracles etc:
Rev 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and
the Lamb are the temple of it.
Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for
the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
Rev 21:24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the
kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
Rev 21:25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night
there.
Rev 21:26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither
whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's
book of life.
Rev 22:1 And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as
crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Rev 22:2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the
tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and
the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Rev 22:3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb
shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
"I believe this is part of the curse that shall be removed."
Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have
all one language (tongue); and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained
from them, which they have imagined to do.
Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not
understand one another's speech.
Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and
they left off to build the city.
Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the
language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face
of all the earth."
Rev 22:4
And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the
tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people,
and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no
more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the
former things are passed away.
Isa 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall
lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a
little child shall lead them.
Isa 11:7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together:
and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
Isa 11:8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child
shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
Isa 11:9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth
shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
1 Cor 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. (Charity is Love)
1 Cor 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather
that ye may prophesy.
1 Cor 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God:
for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
1 Cor 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and
comfort.
1 Cor 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that
prophesieth edifieth the church.
1 Cor 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye
prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues,
except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
1 Cor 14:6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with
tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by
revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
1 Cor 14:7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they
give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
1 Cor 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the
battle?
1 Cor 14:9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to
be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
1 Cor 14:10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them
is without signification.
1 Cor 14:11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that
speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.
1 Cor 14:12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye
may excel to the edifying of the church. (Calling fellow born-again brothers of the devil
is REAL edifying, if you do you might be guilty of the worst of all sins - Mat 12:31
Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be
forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto
men.)
1 Cor 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may
interpret.
1 Cor 14:14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is
unfruitful.
1 Cor 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the
understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding
also.
1 Cor 14:16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the
room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what
thou sayest?
1 Cor 14:17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
1 Cor 14:18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
1 Cor 14:19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my
understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in
an unknown tongue.
1 Cor 14:20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye
children, but in understanding be men.
1 Cor 14:21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I
speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
1 Cor 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that
believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them
that believe not, but for them which believe.
1 Cor 14:23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak
with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not
say that ye are mad?
1 Cor 14:24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one
unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
1 Cor 14:25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on
his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.
1 Cor 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a
psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all
things be done unto edifying.
1 Cor 14:27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by
three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
1 Cor 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let
him speak to himself, and to God.
1 Cor 14:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
1 Cor 14:30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his
peace.
1 Cor 14:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be
comforted.
1 Cor 14:32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
1 Cor 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of
the saints.
1 Cor 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted
unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
1 Cor 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it
is a shame for women to speak in the church.
(Do women speak in your Church, does your denomination Ordain Women, if they do
why do you disobey God's Holy Word and how do you justify it?
1 Cor 14:36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?
1 Cor 14:37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge
that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
1 Cor 14:38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.
1 Cor 14:39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with
tongues.
1 Cor 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
To my Pentecostal and Fundamental brothers, you are both guilty of some serious sin on your parts.
Pentecostals - Over emphasis on speaking in tongues, you base a persons spirituality on the least of the gifts. As far as youre concerned a person has to speak and pray in tongues or he has missed, I don't have to tell you your doctrine you know it. Try reading your Bible a little more carefully and get out of the flesh, stop edifying yourselves and edify the Church. Everyone who is Saved and Baptized in the Spirit doesn't have to have the gift of tongues.
1 Cor 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another
discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the
interpretation of tongues:
1 Cor 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every
man severally as he will.
1 Cor 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
Fundamentals - You have wonderful salvation messages and a zeal for evangelism, I commend you for that and your belief in the Bible. But your independent doctrine on tongues of being of the devil could be Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost or at least bordering on Blasphemy. Do you really want to be in this position? Let me quote this verse again and show my notes and cross references from my Bible.
Mat 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
The "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit" consisted in ascribing to Satan the work of the Holy Spirit (cp. v. 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.). Such a sin was unpardonable because of the unusual circumstances of their rejection of Christ. This most serious sin of the Pharisees was the climax of their continual denial of the obvious truth that the miracles of Jesus represented the power of God (e.g. Mat 9:33 And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel. 34 But the Pharisees said, He casteth out devils through the prince of the devils.), so that Jesus' message was heaven-authenticated. Their folly in deliberately apostatizing by ascribing to the devil the mighty works of Christ by the Holy Spirit is summarized by our Lord in Mat 23:13 - 36 and Luke 11:52.
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." II Timothy 3:16
If the above scriptures don't make any sense to you and are wrong, then erase them from your Bible, but think about this verse first.
Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this
book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are
written in this book:
Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy,
God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from
the things which are written in this book.
Rev 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so,
come, Lord Jesus.
Rev 22:21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Or
Deu 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
Please remember that doctrine should come from the Bible not your denomination.
