Course Development Activities:

·         Developed undergraduate course to be taught for the first time in the Department of Architecture at Kuwait University:

o       ARCH 451: Professional Practice 1

o       ARCH 331: Introduction to Interior Design

o       ARCH 305: Architectural Design 3

o       ARCH 361: Architecture Theory 1: Human Environmental Factors

o       Used the Kuwait University BlackboardTM E-learning system and the College of Engineering and Petroleum special Online Courses System (OCS) to develop online courses. Students are using this facility to study and access their lectures, assignments, readings, grades, course announcements and other course related materials on-line. The courses that are developed using E-learning are:

§         Art Appreciation Summer 2006

§         Architectural Professional Practice 1 and 2

§         Architectural Graduation 1 and 2

o        Proposed a general culture elective course titled “Architecture Appreciation” to be taught at University wide level. Prepared all required documents to teach the course. The proposal was accepted by the college committee and final papers are being prepared to be submitted to the university. The course will be offered when sufficient number o faculty members is available in the department.

·         Undergraduate Program Committee (UPC), coordinator:

o        Reviewed the curriculum of the department of architecture at Kuwait University. Suggested modifications and changes. Updated curriculum under the supervision of NAAB to included 5 new compulsory that received department approvals to execute the changes in 2007-2008 academic year. Submitted the required paper work to the college and university committee to approve changes for implementation of the new curriculum.

o        Established contact with NAAB, initiated the accreditation process at Kuwait University and participated in the NAAB preliminary accreditation visit preparations. Activities included:

o        Preparation of APR, course files and exhibition.

o        Preparation of NAAB Matrix according to the 37 Student Performance Criteria.

o        Presentation of current program curriculum and proposed modifications.

·         Design Courses Committee, coordinator:

o        Coordinated activities of design courses teaching, projects, juries, etc.

o        Developed guidelines and criteria for teaching design courses.

o        Developed and coordinated the Graduation Project teaching activities and documentation.

o        Wrote a document titled “Design Courses and Studios Manual” posted on the internet to be accessible to students and faculty members. (http://meltingpot.fortunecity.com/cameroon/84/courses/designmanual.html)

·         Graduate Program Committee, member:

o        Participated in the development of the Master Program curriculum and courses.

* 2001, College of Engineering Space Utilization Committee, Chairman. Responsibilities include updating the space utilization inventory of the college of engineering and petroleum, suggestions for expansion and modifications as related to departments’ needs and requirements.

* 2000 onward, OCCD - Professional Examination for Kuwait Society of Engineers, Member (Architecture Exam). Responsibilities include preparation of exam questions and exams proctoring. The exam is similar to the ARE exam offered by NCARB of the US. I developed a large database of questions to be used for the exam.

* 2003, NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board) Accreditation Committee Chairman. Responsibilities include preparation of NAAB APR, correspondence with NAAB, course files updating, and preparations for NAAB team visit.* 2000 onward, Department of Architecture Design Courses Committee, Chairman. Responsibilities include coordination of design courses, design projects and monitor development of design studios activities. I developed a “Design Studios and Courses Manual” that is used by the department design instructors to develop their courses.
