INSTRUCTIONS

My custom lightsaber and the one I made for my wife.

As you will be able to tell from looking at the jpegs, the custom saber I built for myself has many more hours of design and work put into it (about three days). The one I made for Jennifer was slapped together in about three hours!

Both of the sabers are made of found objects and some custom lathed and milled pieces. The activator box on mine is the readout of a 1970's Texas Instruments calculator.

Both are built around a piece of 1/4 20 threaded rod which has a nut at the end to hold the whole thing together (even though the pieces are suplerglued as well). The lenses on the "business end" of each is simply a colored cabachon jewel that you can get at almost any craft or bead store.

When making a lightsaber, one might be tempted to use acrylic tubing for pieces of the shaft. DON'T!!! Acrylic tubing is rather fragile and doesn't like to have screws put into it unless you drill and tap specific holes for them! (If you look closely, you might see the crack in Jennifer's sabre) I heartily recommend using simple PVC pipe...available from hardware stores. You can use self-tapping screws to affix things to it if you desire. It works quite well and paints nicely.
