His firt picture from the saber he is building. We will see more of his stuff here soon.
The emitter is made up of parts from Home Depot: 1 1.25" diameter steel conduit coupling ($3.93) (I'll get the brand name later) 8 big freakin washers ($0.18 each) (I'll detail all that later) that I found in the electric conduit section - they are beveled so if you put them together in opposing pairs you get the cool fin effect :-) 1 1.00" steel conduit coupling ($0.93) (it fit nicely into the main nozzle) 1 3/4"x24" brass pipe ($3.75) (I'll cut it later) 1 3/8"x6' foot foam pipe insulator ($1.63) If you find these pieces the assembly in this picture should be straightforward. I'll have to use epoxy to fasten the copper tube into the couplings - I'm going to do that once I've decided whether or not I want it to run all the way up the emitter or not. I also have to decide if I want the main handle to lock in place flush with the bottom of the main emitter, or if I want to leave some of the copper tube exposed. If I leave it exposed, I'll probably only leave 1" or so exposed. The black foam insulation sheaths the copper tubing very well. The trick here is going to be the sheath that fits around this black grip section. I'm going to use a 1.25" diameter piece of PVC or aluminum pipe. This diameter pipe fits my hand very well; but I have large hands. I recommend fitting your lightsaber to your hand - this is REAL important. Kinda the cool thing about my rig is that varying sizes are pretty common - if I wanted to I could probably make a miniature 'saber for a kid using similar parts. I have a template for cutting out the sides of this pipe to leave the grip foam exposed. When I decide what material I want to use, I'll print my template, trace it onto the pipe, the use a Dremel tool to cut out the exposed portions. The pipe will then fit nicely around the foam I've selected. After that I'll work on affixing the main shaft and the handgrip to the emitter. But before I do any of this I have to decide how I want to build the very bottom. Until then. :-) --HH
