The Costume
It's a McCall's pattern but I don't know which one,it's got a bunch of Star
Wars Wanna-be characters. I THINK it's pattern #8427 or something like that.
First off I'd like to give a big thanks to Los and everyone who's helped
me with this whole costume! Now, I'll give some detail about the costume.
Materials ( You can use whatever you want! Be creative!!). I went out and
bought simplicity pattern (#8427) and I gave it to a friend, from there on I
bought all the materials needed. I used a type of felt material. It may not
sound as good as you think, but really it's excellent fabric for a robe. The
next thing I bought was a kind of "cow hide cloth" material. I used it for
the pants, any colors would be great. The basic coloring for the whole
costume would be like a "Earth Tone" or "Various Browns". Then after
searching around, I bought a "bed sheet" type material for the tunic. I used
it for the sash and the vest. I bought a sweat-shirt that was made from
wool, but looks exactly like the shirt "Obi-Wan Kenobi" wears in "Episode 1".
Most important thing to do is make sure you find a good person to sew. The
boots I used were Steel Toed water-boots that you can pick up over at
Wal-Mart for around $15.00. They work great! The belt was just a plain
leather belt that I made some adjustments to. I made a comlink and food
capsules. I'll get some pics for those. That's really all needed except for
the saber. I hope this gives some people ideas on what to do for a Jedi
costume. Have fun and enjoy! MTFBWY, Darren.
THE SABER
Saber Tutorial
Basically what materials I need, were a Uncle, who knows how to
machine my saber, a cousin who knows how to sew pretty good, and LOTS AND
LOTS OF HELPAND IDEAS! What I did was, I took my lightsaber draw-up to my
uncle, who owns a machining business. I gave my uncle the plans, which were
my own ideas and imagination is very critical in this process. He took a look
at them and told me that he could do it in around a week. About a month and a
half later he gives me a call and tells me that I can come and pick it up on
my way home. He told me that the materials that were needed to make it. The
saber can be dismanteled. There is an aluminun rod, holding the pieces
together. The gold colored parts are called aluminized brass. He cut into the
top part of the saber to be almost what "Luke's ROTJ" saber would be. Then he
took a solid aluminum pipe and cut a piece about 3-4 inches long, and diamond
plated it. The next thing is a grip, off of a dirt bike or BMX grip. The last
piece but not least, would be the "Vader" saber, bottom grip. Really that's
all that I can say about it except for blades. I'm going to be making them
out of PVC piping and coloring them various different colors. After that, I'm
going to slip a wooden dowel in between the PVC and use an end plug to act as
supporter to help not make the saber blade fly out. Put a PVC cap on the
other end and Magic,You've got yourself a fighting (Show or Play) Lightsaber!
Enjoy and have fun!
