Akira-Bendu didn't want his little girl to go on that mission, and now I wish I hadn't. My father and I were the only two Jedi on the excursion. He was scared, I could sense it-- strongly. As we traveled to the interrogation camp, I watched as he modified his saber. When I asked him why he was adding components, he responded with a tone I will never forget, "Ashala, this is a suicide mission. Two extra blades on a saber aren't going to do me any good, but if I drop my saber, there aren't any other trained Jedi on our side to pick it up. If a dark jedi activates this saber now, with the sensors and emitters, they will be sliced in two."
I couldn't believe my ears, couldn't he see he was turning to the dark side by giving into his fear like that? He just calibrated the saber to its fullest length, and sat in silence the remainder of the trip.
His blades served him well, he was able to deflect blaster bolts that he would not have been able to deflect with a mere single-bladed saber. The extra blades even gave him extra leverage in a parry, allowing him to disarm three ememies in the battle. His new saber served him well, at first.
We had freed the New Republic citizens from their interrogation cells when it happened. He saw my brother being released from his chamber. Akira's blood boiled with hate and fear. His youngest child was suddenly caught in the crossfire of a bloody battle to liberate the camp. "Run Padawan!!" He screamed, allowing a tatoo-faced warrior to slice an entire side-saber from the distracted Valor's lightsaber assembly. Just as my father had suspected, that third blade was recovered and activated again for battle-- by my brother.
I Ashala Valor, daughter of the evil Akira-Bendu Valor, submited his saber to Jedi Master Los, as an upload to his communication array. With deepest conviction, I acknowledge that I am not ready to construct my own. I repaired the saber to the state it was in imediately before the battle (when my father could have resisted the Dark Side), and then I destroyed it. You will notice that there is a little carbon scoring around the emitters, that's where I stuck a blaster up each saberbarrel and destroyed the inner chambers of each unit. The entire assembly looks fine on the outside, but the inside is shot, literally. I did, however, retain the Kiber Crystal from the center chamber. I wear it around my neck in memory of Padawan, and to remind me never to follow the path of my father. No, I won't be using it to construct my own lightsaber-- my skin might be a little on the dark side, but I am not. The crystal emits a red blade.
I present this saber to Master Los as testimony of the one fact of which I am certain-- Technology does not make a Jedi's training complete, that is a distortion-- perpetuated by the dark side.
It takes much more than that to become a true Jedi Knight.
... and I have what it takes.
