Meson Working Kelpie Stud first started breeding Kelpies in 1962. The Stud first entered Kelpies in a sheepdog trial 1964 and got 2nd place.
WOOMBI CLYDE
I used Woombi Clyde as a sire in 1965. The Woombi Stud was owned by Paddy Noakes and was well known for it's top quality Kelpies. Meson Spring and Spud were some of the better pups he bred. Spring I later mated to Chondo Chance in 1967 and the pups were very good. I gave two of the pups, Meson Spick and Meson Span to Mick Doughty in exchange for the stud service from Chance and there were good reports on them too.
ROCKYBAR TWIG
Rockybar Twig was one of my best early Kelpies. I bought her about 1965. She made a big improvement my breeding. She gave more, concentration and style. In a word, more natural sheep sense. One of the better pups was Meson Holt Nick.
DOONANS BOSS
I used Doonans Boss during the late 1960's as a sire. I put him over Rockybar Twig and Meson Spring. One of these pups went to well known Kelpie breeder Mr. Horton of Hortons Kelpie Stud.
In 1969, I sold Meson Dirk (Doonans Boss X Pinehill Ann) to Eric Smyth, and later Meson Gimme (Rockybar Rusty X Meson Trick)to him as well. Mr. Smyth is now well known on the board of directors in the Working Kelpie Council. Pinehill Ann was a red and tan Kelpie and was later featured in a childrens book.
ROCKYBAR RUSTY
Peter Ward, a well known triallist in Queensland gave me a red and tan Kelpie, Rockybar Rusty many years ago. Rusty was about 9 months old. He was a calm, sensible Kelpie with a masked face and saddle.
MESON TRICK
Trick was a very good dog. Steve Weyman (Wunduura Working Kelpie Stud) had a long loan of her at one stage and worked her on a big property near Boorowa. Steve even did a few trials with her. Steve is well known for being one of the best handlers in Utility and Yard trials. He won the National Kelpie Trial twice. Meson Trick was a lovely natured and a steady worker. She was a friendly Kelpie that would work for other handlers and easy to control.
THE WORKING KELPIE COUNCIL
In the 1970's, some breeders had to have their dogs tested and approved by the Working Kelpie council. I submitted a young bitch called Meson Teena (Doonans Boss X Rockybar Twig). She went to Roy Wheeler to be tested down in Holbrook. She was later sold to Tim Austin's Elfinvale Kelpie stud and is a grand-dam of the famous Elfinvale Kelpie Ben featured in the Stud brochures. My Stud was of course officially approved and I was then a governing member of the Australian Working Kelpie Council.
ROCKYBAR KELPIES
I used a number of Kelpies over the years from the well known Rockybar Stud in Queensland. The Stud is run by Les Tarrant and was officially established in 1950. Mr. Tarrant is well known as a breeder and one of Australia's best handlers, winning a number of major sheepdog trials. He is one of the founding members of the Working Kelpie Council of Australia and is on the board of directors. For many years he has also been Vice President of the Kelpie Council. His Kelpies have been used as foundation dogs in many of the Studs today.
Some of the Working Kelpies I have used in the past from the Rockybar Stud include: Elgovers Plum, Karmula Duff, Karmulga Kye, Elgovers Casey, Rockybar Joe, Rockybar Smart and Rockybar Rusty.
ROCKYBAR JOE
In the late 1980's I approched Les Tarrant to sell me a good pup as a future sire from his good bitch, Rockybar Cherry Cheer. After waiting nearly two years I got finally got the dog I was looking for, Rockybar Joe. I think Joe has made a big improvement to my Stud. He is one of the best sires I have ever had in the Stud.
He has also been used by a number of other Kelpie Studs including, Potters, Croakes, Spinifex, Webbs, Waringa and Joes Kelpie Stud. Croakes Ripper is winning trials over in USA. He has been a very good sire over Capree Busy.

SPINIFEX BIG BEN
Spinifex Big Ben was a really good sire over Plum. Mint was also a really good dog that went to the Mudu Kelpie Stud. He gave me a lot of what I was looking for. He was a very strong, powerful dog. Easy to control. Les Tarrant said he was a good sire and I should have used him more.
I also used Spinifex Loch as a sire. I used him over Meson Trick and one of those pups was Meson Glint.
