WWII Combat Infantry Badge Holders Eligible for the Bronze Star

A couple of years ago my grandmother wanted to get a copy of John's final pay voucher. These records were housed in a different facility than the personal records that were destroyed in the fire at the Army Records Center in St. Louis. She sent to the Records Center, who forwarded her request to the appropriate agency. In a few weeks, she a box that not only included a copy of the pay voucher, but a Bronze Star. There was no explanation, only a certificate that said that it had been awarded by Executive Order. When I interviewed Dr. John White of CO. "L", I asked him about the Star, which he was able to explain. Years after the war, the Army reconsidered the achievements of the infantrymen and medics who fought in the war and an Executive Order was signed issuing these men Bronze Stars for "meritorious actions against the armed enemy." Because the Marines are also eligible for this medal but were not included in the Order, the Army never publicized this award for political reasons. Dr. White said that most recipients are not aware that they have earned the Bronze Star, and I told him that I would let the word out. When my grandmother ordered the final pay voucher, the Army saw that he had earned the Combat Infantry Badge and awarded him his Bronze Star. ALL INFANTRYMEN WHO EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRY BADGE and MEDICS WHO EARNED THE EQUIVALENT ARE ELIGABLE! To get the ball rolling on the award process, contact the Army Records Center in St. Louis, MO and request a copy of your (or your father's) final pay voucher. The Center is eager to reconstruct your file from that voucher. The Center's address is:

National Personnel Records Center
9700 Page Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63132-5100

My grandmother only had to request the voucher, but Dr. White said that he had to contact his senator to get his Bronze Star, but you've earned it!
