Under construction. They came from the dark pits and folds of Helena. They spoke slurred Irish, with a Mix of Pakistani, and they walked with limps. These were the founders of the Helena All Blues Rugby Club. These were men that were not afraid of any front row, spiders, or Women that wore long underwear. These were men that brought pride to the sleepy little capital city. These were IRS lawyers, stock brokers, and students at Carroll College. They feared no evil and scared the dickens out of Bishop O'Connell. They were the founders of the Helena All-Blues Rugby squad. "Pigs in the Dirt" can still be heard echoing across the Blues pitch, and you can still smell the beer which was spilled in the old Pub (now Boomers). This club has truly seen it all. Rugby at its best hit Helena as a rag tag group of rookies and some skilled veterans entered the plate division in Billings, MT one April day for the Billings Bulls Fools tourney. While the team had recently lost in Billings the week before during a snow storm, the young squad, missing a few players (IB #3 Hoss joined the group for a game)the Blues went undefeated on Saturdays play, setting them up for the championships against Minot AFB. The club would party that night sharing beers with the other clubs in the hotel. Finally they would make their way to the Party and many would see their first "Ollouette...show us your tits." The Blues won their trophy, which has not been seen since (1994), and no Brent, I do not have it. To my recollection, that is the only trophy the club has ever won. NOTE: In picture, guy pushing next to me is Sean Bray, IB #7. He was unable to make it to the tourney the following week. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
