CHEVY CHASE
HAMSTER SOCIETY
INFORMATION

At its meeting held Sunday, May 30, 1999, it was decided that the Chevy Chase Hamster Society would adopt the Malibu Hamster and Rat Condo as its officially recommended cage for single hamsters (glass tanks are preferred for mothers with babies).

A top view of the recommended hamster cage can be seen below. The main part of the metal cage is all one piece, with an opening at the top center that makes escapes very difficult, even in the event the top is not properly closed. This part is attached by hooks to a bottom which is both deep and wide, leaving a gutter area that minimizes the problem of wood shavings being kicked out onto the floor.

In the front view below, you can see the depth and width of the pan, which not only helps keep the hamster's surroundings clean, but allow for easy cage cleaning. One need only place the top of the cage on a newspaper, put the hamster in it (along with any nest or other special property, including clean stored food), dump the bedding into a trash bag, and then wash and refill. Because of the design, wet corners very seldom stick to the wire part of the cage.

This side view shows the hooks that attach the bottom of the cage to the top. The cages are durable and easy to maintain. The wheel, which comes with the cage, is attached directly to the side, so there are no support bars to catch feet and heads. Above all, this cage offers ample room for a single hamster, with virtually no chance of escape.
